When it is past time to replace the filter, you may notice that your ice maker is no longer making ice. You may also notice the ADD WATER notification, even though you have water in the reservoir. We’re glad to hear you’re happy with the ice nuggets your Opal produces, and we’d like to address the issue you’re having with sound. Water hardness can result in a calcium build up that may cause sound, and we recommend using distilled water in your Opal to help reduce build up. Distilled water is different from bottled water, reverse osmosis water, filtered water, or spring water. These other options contain varying levels of minerals that can build up in the unit and impede optimal operation. Using distilled water reduces the frequency of descaling and cleaning. Using our scale-inhibiting filter, part P4INKSFLTR, is designed to increase the time between cleanings and reduce the solidification of scale. If you think the sound you’re hearing isn’t normal, then among the other tips we recommend ensuring there are at least 4” of clearance in the back, on both sides, and above the Opal and that the side tank isn’t covering a vent. During normal operation, condensation forms on the bottom surface of the ice bin. This water will sometimes collect and drip down the lower front surfaces of the ice maker. The drip tray below the surface is designed to help collect this water.
