I prefer the features that’s from the updated model. However the taste of chemicals/plastic was so strong in the ice it took over a week of running it to be useable and only after countless bins of ice, fresh water and cleaning vinegar running through the machine. Now that it’s worn off it’s much better at keeping ice made than the last model and there hasn’t been any other issues yet.

Size and capacity work for our family of 4… installed on a mobile cart and with the side tank it easily produces enough ice for our needs. It’s quiet during normal ice making cycles. Installation is easy … looking forward to buying another for my daughter and her apartment

I don’t write reviews often, but after purchasing more than 3 of these Opal ice machines and always having the same squealing issues I would give this product a zero if possible. I purchased a water distilled just for this machine thinking maybe it’s our water, but the squeaking always occurs after the 1 year warranty is up. I would highly recommend looking at a different ice machine!

It makes ice quickly, and its pretty quite. it only takes up about 2 inches more the other countertop models I've had, but its a way better designed ice maker. Its makes LOTS of wonderfully crunchy nuggets. No more running out of Ice or running to the store to buy the continuously shrinking pounds bagged Ice. The ice "bucket" holds a nice amount & refills quick. Set up is quick and easy. Just clean it, than run a few ice making cycles and toss the first two batches and now your are ready to enjoy a cold cocktail or cooler fill-up ! This little ice makers is going to be a game changer for next years Pool Parties!!!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love the final product I get from my GE Opal Nugget Ice Maker. Two things I do not love is the noises that it makes and how often it has to be cleaned. But, I would buy it again despite those two things.

Had a different brand nugget ice maker for a few years and it suddenly stopped working recently. It was also really loud when you first turned it on. The Opal ice maker is so much nicer, faster, and prettier. It also has a separate filter you change out and has the app that goes with it. It’s not as heavy as the other one (which matters because I have to move mine closer to the sink to clean) and easier to clean. Yea it cost more but worth it. You get what you pay for. Chefs kiss.

Purchased this for my wife for Xmas, she’s obsessed with crushed ice but it’s hard on our fridge/freezer (it jams up and burns up the motor). We have the Opal nonstop since purchasing it! No issues so far, makes ice very fast and it perfect. I’d highly recommend.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My husband and I were so happy to receive this ice maker as a wedding gift. We absolutely loved it for the whole week that it worked. Now it will no longer make ice. It constantly says "making ice" and then "add water" even when it is full of water. We have tried making sure the tubes aren't stopped up and have cleaned it multiple times. Unfortunately, at this point we will be in contact about the warranty for our machine. We are really disappointed with the quality of this expensive machine, in particular because it was given to us as a thoughtful gift.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The product itself may surprise me but the initial cleaning is the tank was not as detailed with illustrations as much as I think it should. I'm a rather intelligent lady with a college background as well as I feel vetted in having common knowledge and street smarts. But I will say this instruction manual could use some major updates. It made me have to stop and restart the steps over numerous times. It also doesn't tell you that you have to confirm after each cleaning cycle that I want to continue with the cleaning quarters it goes through. The cleaning mode should be a touch and go system instead of causing the user to have to fully dedicate their time standing at the appliance and assist in the cleaning process.

So far, we are extremely pleased with the ice maker. It makes a great nugget style ice and keeps it cold until it gets used. The initial setup and prep was easy and well documented. It’s larger than I realized but still fit on the countertop, under the cabinets fairly easily. Whole family is using it daily and like it way better than the refrigerator made ice.
