Horrible noise!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have had this in the box and finally decided to hook it up. I love this type of ice but this machine makes this horribly loud squealing noise randomly. It awful!!! I plan to call the company to see what can be done.

Misinformation on measurements.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I ordered this unit because it stated the assembly product dimensions are (LxWxH) 24.75 x 20.25 x 14.74. The G.E Profile they sent was (LxWxH) 17.5 x 13.43 x 16.5. When I contacted GE they stated that they do not make a unit that is 14.75 inches tall. I am completely unhappy that this unit states the wrong size in height.

Don't use filter can't use after1st true cleaning

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I would have love to know that when it tells you to do a cleaning for the first time that you can't put the filter back in because the machine doesn't recognize it. It try's to make ice and then it stops and tells you to add more water and you have a side tank and it is totally full and the inside the water has gone down due to the fact that it tried to make ice, so you add a little more water into the machine and it try to make ice and then stops and tells you to add more water and it is all due to the filter, I took it out and I have not had any problems making ice sense. I only use Filtered water, so we decide not to use the filter anymore. There is no true instructions for this machine. No clear trouble shooting help in the book and everything I found on the internet was not that much helpful either to figure this out. When ice melts it makes a lot of water in the bottom of the bin and doesn't drain out very well, all I have seen water in between the walls of the bin after its been washed and it seam like when I wipe down the front part under were the bin is it seams that the water keeps popping back up, so I'm not sure if water could be leaking down into the front of the machine from that area when it gets wet from the bin hanging down when you get the ice out because of all the melted ice that turned into water. Don't use the filter is a problem and the machine doesn't recognize it after you do the first true cleaning and put it back into the machine, so it is worthy.

We'd like to help out with the filter and go over the water you are noticing at the bottom of your Opal. It can be normal to notice water at the bottom of the bin, it is melted ice from what wasn't used. We recommend checking out page 7 in the manual below for assistance with draining your unit. https://products-salsify.geappliances.com/image/upload/s--hPt8j2G2--/a656dd8264a1786411b2865c10956f3e46f3598f.pdf For the filter, whenever it is removed and eventually replaced it does need to be reset so that the Opal can detect it. There is a filter button that needs to be held down to reset the tracker. You can view more information on page 11 in the same manual as above.

Loud and Annoying

We are now on our second one of these. The first one started making this loud clunking and then slamming noise. GE sent us a second one and this new one now makes a high pitch noise (it sounds like the emergency broadcast system noise) any time the pump turns on. For what you pay for these things are not very good quality.

Drips water from ice bin

The ice bin dribbles A LOT of water when you open the bin. I have to put a napkin on the plastic drip pan, just so it doesn't spillover before I get it wiped up. It is a pain to have to continually wipe up water. Also, every 21 days I have to clean it. It is cumbersome to have to move it to the sink to drain and clean. It is a heavy machine. I assumed cleaning every 4 - 6 wks like my old ice maker.

During normal operation, condensation forms on the bottom surface of the ice bin. This water will sometimes collect and drip down the lower front surfaces of the ice maker. The included drip tray can be installed in front of the Opal to collect this water. Also, it can be normal to clean and maintain your machine. This is due to the mineral build-up and constant ice production. The routine cleaning will help keep your Opal in top shape.

Horrible Ice Maker

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Only had machine for a week, it would make one batch of ice then go into defrosting mode for hours. I ran a cleaning cycle several times, the issue remained. For the cost I am not going to wonder if it will make ice or not every day, so it was returned.

We are sorry that this Opal icemaker stayed in the defrosting mode for hours even after cleaning the unit. This is not normal operation, and we will be sure to notify our internal team regarding this issue.

Broke within 1 yr

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My machine broke within 1.5 yrs despite impeccable maintenance. When I called for help they did nothing but read to me what I already read online. So disappointed and will never purchase or recommend again.

Great Countertop Ice Maker - Do it!

Finally bit the bullet and bought a "real" countertop ice maker. This thing is awesome, makes lots of ice and just overall seems well made. It looks great on my counter. Once you get passed the price, you will not regret this purchase. I paid extra to get the side storage reservoir and the color that matches our current GE appliances! You really have to read the instructions to set it up properly to clean it. Make sure you use Distilled water in any countertop icemaker, I learned that with my old little one. Buy it!

Great function.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Capacity of the ice maker supplied a group of 6 at the beach for a week with enough ice to fill all our drinking needs. My husband installed the ice maker with ease. there is little noise when the machine is functioning. the production of ice is seamless and the size of the machine does not take up much counter space.

Love our Opal 2.0

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We’ve been using our Opal 2.0 for about a week now and so far so good. I was always hesitant to purchase due to past reviews of the machine being loud. You can definitely tell that it’s running but not overly noisy. Just a small background hum.
