Noise

We have the GE Opal ice maker. Have loved it up till now. We clean it like the directions say and with the descaling powder recommended by GE. Now when it turns on to make ice it is loud and makes a very loud hum/howl noise. We have to turn it back off and not make ice as it is so loud and will not stop. Water tanks are full hose lines are clean and free of any crimps in them. We are at a loss with this as it is just over a year old for spending $500 on it!

Fantastic Ice Machine

This is the best countertop ice maker the whole family loves the crushed ice. I got the floater and hooked up the water line running to the fridge. Now I don't ever have to worry about refilling the water. Love this machine makes enough ice for our family of four without worrying about running out.

Never ending defrost

I would like to give it more than one star because I was really hoping it would work. I had the ice machine for less than three days. It did not get put together until the second day it ran for less than 12 hours before it started malfunctioning, it put itself into a defrost mode, even after being turned off for more than 24 hours all at all very sad.

Like the filter offered

Happy so far. Quieter than my previous one. Seems to be about the same capacity. I purchased this to replace the one I purchased in June 2022. Hope this one is more reliable. I had to work on my previous one pretty frequently. I finally got tired of repairing it and just bought this one. I guess 3 to 3 1/2 years isn't to bad even having to repair. I didn't get the scoop holder with purchase. I don't know if it was left out or is an accessory.

Horrible machine

I have bought two of these machines. Both of them have failed. The first one stopped making ice. The last one, the water pump motor died. I bought a new pump and replaced it myself. The machine worked for two more months then began to leak. It is now sitting on the floor of my garage. I will not buy another one.

Squeaks and squeals

Fresh out of box. After 1 tank it starts make noise like scaled up. Needs to defrost goes thru at tank and does it again. Called GE and blamed on hard water. Tried distilled waters that is GE recommends and it does the same. They have no resolution. Will be returning if continues.

Opal Ice 2.0 - noisier than expected

[Employee of ge_appliances] The quality of the ice is good and as advertised. Noise is the biggest complaint while making ice. It is noisier than expected for a device sitting on a countertop. Seems to be primarily compressor noise. Sometimes I can hear it in the next room. Capacity is reasonable and adequate for my general use - as expected.

It makes the ice we love, but at a cost

And the cost is not just the price tag. This thing is heavy. And since we don't keep it next to the sink but rather next to the fridge, it's a chore to move. Why is that an issue? Because you need to descale it about once a month which requires an overnight soak and several cleaning cycles, all requiring you to drain the device. Sure, I guess I could use a bucket on the kitchen floor that I have to step around for an hour or 2. Maybe I'll try that next time. And for the cleanings and maintenance, you'll need to buy descaler, bleach, and water filters. It is pretty noisy at times - we have mostly gotten used to that. It makes ice very quickly, and holds enough for the 4 of us for regular use. The side reservoir is a must. Without the side reservoir, I would probably be adding water once a day. Would we have changed our minds if I knew all this before the purchase? No, we would buy it again. Like most things in life, the best ice in the house requires time and money.

Good Icemaker

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I purchased mine three years ago and it started making a loud noise when it tries to make ice. Other than that I love it

Great ice machine!!

Works exactly like I wanted! Very pleased! Plenty of ice! Love having the side water tank, ability to schedule on/off times to ensure ice is plentiful when needed, the app when I need to turn ice machine & too lazy to get up. Great ice machine!!
