We love the ice, hate the noise level at certain time. It gets so loud we have to unplug the unit for it to quit. Would recommend the water tank add on. We clean it weekly and turn it off at various times so it is not running 24/7 and this appears to help with the noise.

I was excited to use this item. It worked great for about 4 weeks. Soon after it started making an awful noise. I did the suggested descaling and cleaning at about week three. at about 4 weeks, it started making an awful noise. After researching how to remedy, I discovered hundreds of other reviews of people having the same issues. I didn't want to deal with it long term so I returned the machine. This was the top rated ice maker on Consumer Reports but I'm not sure why with so many people having issues with them.

When it works properly, it's wonderful. But it hardly ever works properly. We had to already trade in our first icemaker because it had so many issues. Now the second one has issues as well. Sometimes it just gets clogged and doesn't fill with water. Sometimes it sits idle for no reason and doesn't produce ice. We have to take it apart and back together so many times in order for it to work. Again, if it would work, smoothly start to finish all the time the ice is wonderful.

Overall the GE ICE maker is GREAT. It makes ice quick and in the perfect size. The few cons are that the ice maker is fairly noisy, so if you plan to put it in your kitchen, beware it will make a good bit of noise, so much that I have to turn my TV volume up to hear over it. When the product defrosts, it sometimes makes a loud squealing noise. I'm not sure if that's expected or a defect? I planned to email the manufacturer, but I read same issue from others.

Bought this ice maker after our current refrigerator ice make broke which seems to be a common issue with this brand (Stick to TV's and Phones). In the futures plan on buying a GE refrigerator as we also bought a GE dishwasher and are very impressed with how it works and the GE brand.

Overall the product works exactly as expected. Easy to understand and operate. The only thing that baffles me is why you would have to pay extra to add the side tank on when it should be standard because even with the side tank we're constantly having to refill. Maybe we just drink a lot (just two of us).

My Opal is my favorite purchase of the last few years. We're on our 2nd. The first one lasted like 5 years but we used it every day and never used distilled water. So the ice was softer but towards the end there was always sediment at the bottom of your glass when you used it. We bought a water distiller to go along with the new machine. And though the ice is a bit harder it's still great. And if it lasts 5 years that's Pennie's a day considering we run it every day. Highly recommend.

My family and I go through ice fairly quickly, so to find out about this icemaker, was a godsend! We have an icemaker on our fridge and we even purchased ice trays.....we still ran out of ice before the day ended. I was watching a "Tik Tok Made Me Buy It" video and stumbled across this gem! It starts making ice within 20 minutes of set up and as long as you keep the reservoir full, it'll make ice all day! There is one caveat, we have to clean it every week. I would love to have an icemaker that I can clean once a month, so that it could be done when I clean my fridge. :-)

Only time will tell the reliability. I like the compact-ness of this ice maker. The little pellets are great, too. That said, sometimes I like bigger cubes and opt for ice from my refrigerator. If you are looking for a countertop ice maker, then this is the one for you. As far as the wifi option is concerned, I really do not use it, but perhaps one day I will.

I have had my ice maker for almost a month and so far I am LOVING it. I had read a ton of reviews all over the internet before making my purchase and they made me a little wary but I am SO glad I decided to purchase it. My husband was going to Sonic every week to buy me 2 bags of ice so while this ice maker was not a necessity, it was something I have been wanting for years. The packaging was incredibly sturdy and my machine was in perfect condition. The set up took less than 30 minutes total and in about an hour I had a huge cup of chewy, crunchy ice. I have to fill up the side tank at least once a day because we use a lot of ice but it is so simple to do it's not a problem. I was also worried about the noise the machine would make since several people mentioned it but it is not loud AT ALL. I keep it literally 6 feet away from my desk in my home office and I don't even hear it most of the time. When it's running making ice, there IS noise but it's a low hum and the sound of lovely nugget ice dropping into the bin. I have done the cleaning cycle once so far using 5 cups of water and 1 teaspoon of bleach. It was really quick and easy to do and there was no trace of bleach taste which I was worried about. I downloaded the app and it was very easy to use. It allowed me to set my machine to turn off at 10pm and turn back on at 7am so I always wake up with a full bin of ice. I have zero complaints about my ice maker so far. I did purchase an extended 3 year warranty just in case but I just LOVE this ice machine and I can 100% recommend it for anyone who is on the fence.
