I've had the opal 2 for about a month and I can say that I love the quality of the ice it makes. It's quiet and has a sleek look that fits great with my kitchen. Some cons would be the price and the cleaning procedures but if you have the time and money this shouldn't be a problem!

I got my ice maker at a raffle for a cystic fibrosis fundraiser. Brand new in the box but I never got a receipt. This machine make the most horrible noise that can be heard through out my house. Absolutely horrible. Love the ice but can’t keep machine on. Can I get any help?

I am so happy I got this. Now I don't have to go to my daughters house and steal ice from her !! Her husband bought her one for Christmas !! We got addicted to this kind of ice when she was in the hospital having my grandbaby twins ! Thanks so much for making such a great product we can have at home to enjoy !!

This is my third opal ice maker. I love these things! They typically have a set lifespan around 2-4 years in my experience. Regardless, these machines make the best ice! Recommend using distilled water to increase its life expectancy and to ensure cleaning of the machine is completed regularly. Makes enough ice for a family of 8. Easy set up and install. Fits perfectly under our kitchen cabinets. Runs quietly.

I was abit skeptical about the expected volume it should make since we had to replace the first one we ordered earlier in the month, but the replacement works great. It took 3 hours to fill the bin the first time, and runs only short periods of time to maintain based on usage there after

This ice maker was a Christmas gift from my parents. Even though the complex I live in at the moment has an ice machine down the hall, they know how much I love the ‘good ice’ since I’ll be moving to Mississippi Gulf Coast in the summer. The only thing is it shows there to be a tray that comes with it — there wasn’t one in the box when I opened it :( I put a tray under it but it’s not the right size for the side kick reservoir to fit where it should go.

I love my new opal 2.0. I had the previous version which did stop working about a year and a half after I got it, but luckily I had the full replacement insurance which covered most of the cost of the opal 2.0. I would say it is always worth it to get the extra insurance on these as no matter how well you treat them, they are only made to last about a year of continuous use. Using only distilled water will extend the life as long as possible but in the end they all stop working in my experience, though the opal did last the longest of any model I ever had. I have had Oster, Newaire, Mueller, and Solon, plus a few names I never heard of from china and the opal worked longer than all of them. It also has a great design and a gallon side tank so requires less refilling than most other countertop machines.

Got the ice maker, did some extra sterilizing and cleaning cycles because, HER. Moved it to its permanent location and plugged it in. Ran all night making ice, but didn't seem to be making a lot and we were getting the "Add Water" light when the tank was about half-full. We started trying to troubleshoot when SHE double-checked the instructions and said to check the tank hose and to be sure that it's flat on the counter. I did and, low and behold, dummy me plugged the power in before connecting the tank hose and I ran the hose =over= the bundled power cord behind the machine. Once I re-routed the hose so it was flat on the counter, it started working property and has continued to do so the past almost 3 weeks. Yes, there are other ice makers that are a lot cheaper, but I don't think any of them can touch this one. =She's= happy, so that's all that really matters!

Provided enough nugget ice for a family of heavy ice users. The clean light came on once and it took about 15/20 minutes to clean. It occasionally makes a low squeaking noise but it is seldom and I seem to be the only one that notices it. The side reservoir is a must in my opinion. Would recommend it

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Setting this up definitely requires some time, but for good cause for disinfection + taste. Personally for me my kitchen fridge doesn't make ice very quickly, and we always run out at parties. It takes about 2-3 hours to fill up the bin, so preparation is key here. I will use this for filling up my yeti coolers for the weekend, making mint juleps, and having nicer crunchy. My dogs also love the crunchy ice that's easier on their teeth.
