Amazing
My husband and I have been looking for the perfect mattress for years! It was either too firm for him, too soft for me, the pillow top sunk in, we would wake eachother up tossing and turning, and the heat... I can't begin to tell you the number of nights I would wake up in a pile of sweat. But no more! Thanks to Purple my husband and I sleep so soundly. There is no transfer of motion so we sleep so much better. And something I was worried about was with me being a heavier person at 250 that it would begin to break down or sag... it is holding on as strong as day 1! I wake up so much more rested and ready to face the day ahead. Great job, Purple. You made a wonderful product and the financing made it so easy to own!

Didn't work out
As much as I really wanted Purple to be the right mattress for me, unfortunately it did not provide the support that my body needed. I'm a back and stomach sleeper and I started to get severe neck, shoulder, and back pain after the 3rd night of sleeping on it. I thought maybe my body needed time to adjust to it but the more I slept on it, the more pain I was in. It also ran hot for me - not cool at all. I woke up many nights drenched in sweat. Also, the corners cave in when you put regular sheets on the mattress. I eventually returned the mattress after using it for a 3 weeks (technically had it for a month since it took a week for pick up). The representative I spoke with on the phone to start the return process was not very informative and seemed annoyed that I was asking questions. He just told me to answer the questions on the email that they'll send me and go from there. It would have been nice for him to provide the information verbally just in case I were to misread certain areas. I just wanted to make sure I got all the information since I already had him on the phone. The return process took about two and a half weeks. I choose the option for Purple to help me on finding a donation center for the mattress and they directed me to Sharetown. I got an initial email from Sharetown and then a text from the person picking it up a couple days after. I would have preferred that they provided a name and number of that person picking up the mattress in the email because it seemed a little sketchy at first because he just texted me. Eventually, the person from Sharetown came and took the mattress. He suggests not moving the mattress because it's easier for them to pack and less risks of it getting damaged. Only one guy came and took the mattress. I was so impressed!! He did everything within 30 minutes. I submitted the receipt as soon as Sharetown took it. I received a confirmation for my return the next day. Be advised, they do mention that the return takes a few days to show up in the bank, but after waiting 7 DAYS, I received an email from Purple summarizing my full return but still no money back on my card. It took a week and a half for me to see my money back in my account so keep that in mind.

Back pain...
Well, I did have some back pain after the first night - however- it was because I slept with the top portion of my bed angled upward and I am a side sleeper. Once I flattened out, no pain or problems. The Purple mattress works great and is much more comfortable than the memory foam mattress we were using. Thanks Purple!

I didn't believe the hype, but it's working for me
I've had at least three foam-type mattresses of varying prices and brands over the last 15-20 years. I'm a 6'1", 190lbs active person who gets sore from day-to-day activities and loves a good nights rest. Once my last two mattresses would cause me to toss and turn almost every 2 hours or so and my rest was very poor, I needed to try something else. I put Purple, Casper, and Nectar on my list to test. Purple had the best return/trial period so I figured I'd try Purple first. I'm about 20 days in and the sleep has been very restful. I don't toss and turn because of hot spots or soreness from laying too long in one spot. I'm going to keep an eye on my restfulness for the first 90 days and see how I feel!

Great mattress, even better price!
We knew we wanted to get away from the old style spring mattress and box spring, and we also knew we wanted to try a "bed-in-a-box." After doing extensive research, the Purple mattress kept coming up as the most unique and versatile in comfort and firmness. The key of course is the top "purple" layer. We find the mattress to be super comfortable! The grid patterned polymer layer on top is bouncy and squishy. Once you lay down on the mattress, you begin to interact with the more firm foam layers underneath. It almost reminds me of the feeling of a pillow top, but better. The top layer reacts quickly to changes, unlike traditional memory foam. Also unlike a foam only mattress, it sleeps cool or "temperature neutral." Even with the bouncy response of the upper layer, the motion transfer is almost non-existent. I can hardly feel my other half getting in or out of bed. The mattress hugs you a little, but not in a sinking feeling. You just have to try it to understand! I also feel like the mattress is durable, and isn't going to fade or sag after a few years. One of my favorite features of this mattress is that it is comfortable in any sleeping position or where you are on it. Even sleeping near the edge has good support. The only down side (which really isn't one) is that you can feel the grid pattern of the top layer a bit with your hand. Again it's really not that big of a deal, just took a couple of nights to get used to it. The price is a third of any other mattress we would've wanted. Overall we love our Purple mattress!!

Mixed feelings
Let me start out that my wife and I have had very different experiences on this mattress. Wife: She's a side sleeper and has had sore shoulders and numbness in her arms and hands every night on the purple mattress. She very much does not like sleeping on it, and has on multiple occasions during our trial gone to sleep on the queen spring mattress in the guest room. Husband: I fall asleep on my back and often awake on my side. For laying on my back this mattress is AMAZING! I havent laid on a better surface and fallen asleep feeling better. However, when I awake I do have some shoulder stiffness and have had numb arms/hands a few times (not nightly like my wife) Sadly, the arm/shoulder issue is far too troublesome for us so we've decided to return our purple mattress.

I was talked into this mattress by my wife, we had a Sleep Number bed that we had for over 10 years. I had been very happy with that bed. So when the Purple arrived I was less than enthusiastic about it. Much to my surprise the first nights sleep was amazing. I am a chronic snorer, and have sleep apnea as well, My wife is enjoying better sleep due to my snoring has been eliminated, and my gasping for breaths has been greatly reduced. Not sure why this is happening, it certainly has been a welcome benefit. Point is we love our new Purple, and the Sleep Numbers time has come and gone. Thank you for this amazing bed. Sweet dreams

The bed is rough when you first start to sleep it needs to be softer or simulate more of a real mattress on top. Once your sleeping in it it's good. It's just that initial 20 minutes, is a little uncomfortable. Definitely not a mattress for people who sleep on their stomachs. First off it feels terrible no to mention it causes knee problems. That's all I have to say thanks

Good for Some, Not for Us
I'm sure that the Purple works for some people, and by the reviews here, that much is obvious, but it wasn't for us. We got the Purple 3 three months ago and were entirely ready for some revolutionary sleep. As they say on the site, there is definitely an adjustment period, but after 2 or so weeks of mild discomfort, we were sleeping fairly well. My only complaint at this point was that the smell lingered on, especially when I changed from back to side, and that the mattress is very cold (more on this later). After two weeks, we slept well on it for a little over a month, and we thought things were great! Oh the joy of good sleep. Then, things started going downhill. I would wake up in the middle of the night with shoulder and hip pain (I'm a side sleeper), or I would wake up with numb toes/feet if I slept on my back. My back began to ache when I woke up and twisting and picking things up made it worse. My wife, who usually sleeps like the dead, was tossing and turning in the night and waking up with back pain as well. We gave it another few weeks, but it kept getting worse, so we returned the mattress. That said, I'm not hear to turn you off from the Purple. I'm just here to give you a bit of a head's up. While they say this generally sleeps at around a 6/6.5 on the firmness scale, we found it more of a 7.5 or more. Definitely a bit too firm for us (although not nearly as firm as the latex mattress we tried once - that thing was a plank). I would also caution anyone in colder climates to seriously consider the temperature neutrality of this mattress. They mean it. The bed stays the temperature of the room it's in, and having that in the cold north of New York, even in early spring, when your room is 55 at night, makes for really cold sleeping. I normally sleep hot and use, at best, a sheet and one blanket in the winter. I was using two extra blankets just to get warm when we got in bed. And then, in the middle of the night, when the mattress finally warmed up, I would wake up dripping sweat. Not fun at all. Fortunately, Purple's customer service and return teams are kind and understanding, and the process was super smooth. We donated the mattress to our local Urban Mission and Purple started the refund process as soon as I sent them a pic of the receipt. I do appreciate the opportunity to try the bed, and I'm sure there are people out there who will like it, but it definitely wasn't for us.

Mixed review from this couple.
I hated the Purple mattress, my wife loved it. We are both 56, medium build, in good health. I sleep like a blast furnace...HOT! Contrary to the promise, the Purple Mattress slept just as hot as any other chunk of foam we've tried in the past 2 years. I made it 3 hours. (I do sleep cool on our 20 year-old Simmons) Since my wife had to get up early that morning and I didn't want her to have to worry about me, I toughed it out and woke up 2 more times overheated. Once I finally got up, my shoulders hurt SO bad that I couldn't get my right arm up to open the cabinet door where the pain reliever was stored. Awful. We moved the mattress to the front room, and my wife kept sleeping on it, she loved it so much. The return was simple and courteous, thank goodness. That said, it might be good for most people, but not for a hot sleeper. Needs more work, guys. From Gerard, a fellow rocket scientist in San Diego.
