I was skeptical after our first night with our new Purple mattress because I woke up with HORRIBLE back pain. I started looking right away for instructions on how to get my money back! Purple recommended giving it a minimum of 21 nights before we gave up and while I thought that was a strange number and I felt ill at the thought of 21 nights of painful sleep, I decided to hope they knew their mattress better than I did--and it turns out they do. By about night 5, I began to realize I was sleeping comfortably and not waking up in pain. No return instructions needed here, we're sold on the Purple mattress! I went to customer service for advice on which one to choose since this technology is new to me, and surprise surprise they tried to convince me I needed their most expensive product. I decided to gamble, we got the LEAST expensive product instead, their basic Purple mattress (queen), and it has done the trick marvelously. We are really pleased with our results.

I thought that I liked a soft bed, but had periodic back pain. The mattress I was sleeping on was harder than I would have preferred (after I got married, due to my husband's preference). I woke up often at night and wasn't rested. We decided to try purple. My first couple of nights I wasn't sure what I thought. I wanted it to be softer, but then I realized that I wasn't waking up anymore in the middle of the night, I wasn't waking up in pain and I was walking up rested. I'll never go back.

This is my in depth review of the experiences I have had with the Purple Mattress. Included is the observations of myself. Also included are some observations of my wife's habits. Mattress Background The previous mattress we were using was a Stearns and Foster Beautyrest 2 Queen. I had received it used 10 years prior to replacing it. Its total age was anywhere between 15-20 years. Late 2014 saw the addition of a Novaform 3in Gel Memory Foam cushion also a pillow topper. Personal Background Age: Mid 30's Weight: Mid to higher 200's Height: 5'10 Medical Issues: Reconstructive surgeries to both hips. Chronic Issues: Pain in: Hips, knees, shoulders, lower back, neck. Circulation issues with arms. General Observations with the Purple Mattress Weight: No one is being dramatic when saying this mattress is HEAVY. Installation: Can be cumbersome due to weight but if forethought is taken you and a second body can get it done in a snap. Feel: It is more firm than one would think from the videos. There is also give to it when enough pressure/weight is applied. Timeline Night 1: Installation of a new bed frame and the mattress left us exhausted. Sleep came easy. Could really tell the ease at which it lowered the pressure on key areas of my body. Week 1: Observing less pain in key areas. The give of the mattress takes time to learn so that one can get up and out. Wife is falling asleep easier and getting more hours. Week 2: Noticing changes in my sleeping positions. Previous sleeping positions lead to older issues with circulation and muscle strain. Allowing the mattress to do more supporting relieves these issues. Example: Sleeping fully on side is more comfortable that part side/part stomach. Wife has adjusted sleeping position. She is sleeping longer while on her back. Week 3: Sleeping positions have not adjusted as much as previous week. Decided to change the pillow used. As side sleeping is prefered need to use something thicker than a 4in dense memory foam. Week 4: Sleeping with a different pillow has helped sleeping more. Side sleeping does require thicker support. Noticing more dreams than I did in the past. Mid-night wake ups happen far less frequently. Usually sleeping 5-6hrs straight, instead of the previous 2-3hrs. Week 5: Finding myself sleeping longer. Before nightly average was 7hrs. New nightly average is 9. Old issues of waking very groggy are going away. When I wake up on my own I am very alert. Week 6: Feeling fully adjusted to the Purple Mattress. Have not waken up with any lower back pain in 2 weeks. Knees do not ache when getting out of bed. Review The Purple Mattress is something I would've never expected. A firm platform that moves with me where I need it. A bed that allows my wife and I to sleep in better comfort that is beneficial to our health and sleeping habits. If you are someone who wants to sleep on soft stuff than this probably isn't for you. The support will throw you off. If you are one that wants to sleep on a hard floor, well you might just be surprised by the feel of the Purple. You can have comfort and support. We absolutely love our Purple. This can not be said enough. I wish I could describe the feel of it better so that others may be able to decide to make the change to Purple. It doesn't isolate motion as some other platforms. The more weight that is applied the more the mattress has to adjust. The top layer has the bounce back of something that is close to jello, but no wiggle/jiggle or mess. The sleeping temperature of it is indeed neutral. There is no cold or hot spots, just cold or hot people. The sleep that we get on the purple feels natural. The only thing close to this feeling is that of a water bed, without the constant motion. If you are thinking of moving to Purple then we do recommend it. If it does not work out for you the company has a great return policy, or there is sure to be someone you know with a very old mattress that can use an update. The price point is fantastic, so why not try it out?

Apparently someone is reading these reviews. 30 minutes after posting my one-star review I gat a call from the shipper asking if they could deliver it tonight. My review of the user experience still stands, but I will post a review of the mattress itself, in fairness. It is very comfortable, and it feels a bit like you're floating. I believe I'm going to really like it. Purple still needs to improve their communication, both with the customer and with the shipper. In particular they should send emails confirming the delivery times and that the mattress has actually been delivered.

I am 21 years old, 5'11", 160 lbs, so I definitely shouldn't be waking up with back pain in the middle of the night from a good mattress. It feels alright when I first lay on it, but quickly it causes my back to spasm when I lay on my back especially. I'm a combo sleeper, so I switch positions during the night. But with this mattress it's like I'm waking up, getting knocked out of sleep every time I do this because my lower to mid back is in pain. I'm healthy and have good posture! I wanted to like this mattress so badly (I invested in the mattress and the harmony pillow) but it definitely didn't work out.

We did our research, we read the reviews, we tried it out in the store. But when we got it home we just could not like this mattress. We gave it 8 weeks before deciding to return it. Somehow it is hard and not so a the same time. While top rated for side sleepers (which I am) this mattress caused me more pain and numbness than any I have ever owned. And it did it in record time. Usually in 30 minutes or less. Very disappointed, as we really wanted this to be our solution. If you like a firm mattress this is a great mattress, If you are heavy enough, to make it compress, its probably a great mattress. (I weigh 200 lbs) But if you need some give and conforming to your body, I would not recommend this mattress

After previously purchasing two of your chair cushions, I figured why not try the mattress. My husband is a paraplegic and if the mattress is too soft it's hard for him to transfer on and off. While the Purple mattress seems to be soft to the touch, laying on it proved otherwise. It was neither too firm nor too soft. We've only had it for a couple of weeks but can already tell how much better we sleep!

My wife and I got this mattress for our anniversary. We were so excited to get it. I think nearly every night since we started using it we have both randomly smiled and said "I love our new mattress." I sleep sooooo good now. Glad I went with the king size.

From the moment I laid on this bed and felt the sheets I knew this was an amazing purchase. It supports you in the best places as the perfect amount it's incredible. I loved it so much my parents just purchased one for themselves (its shipping now) I would recommend to anything that is in the market for a bed. It is a different experience. While I loved it from the first moment, it did take about a week to really have my body adjust to it. But night one was great and it only got better from there.

Maybe my expectations were too high, but I expected this mattress to be so much more than the 20 year old mattress it was replacing, and I guess I'm just a bit underwhelmed. First, I had to get rid of my old king mattress and box spring myself. I think if you buy a mattress at Sleepy's or whatever they take the old mattress with them. Second, this mattress is HEAVY. Like almost unmanageable heavy. I get that it's space age polymer type stuff. But it was a wrestle to get it upstairs and a wrestle to get it laid out on the frame and for as heavy as it is, it seems to move pretty easily when I get out of bed. Plus I had to get a whole new frame (because this doesn't need or want a box spring), and a new bed skirt. Lots of new stuff here, and the difference between what I had and what I have now is not earth shattering. I expected it to be. I can see that if you are coming from a futon or something else with a platform where you don't have to replace the frame it would be easier/better. But to be honest I don't see that much of a difference from the pillow top Simmons mattress we had before this. Not sure what the answer is in terms of shopping for a new mattress. This is one answer, but I had to have 2 people help me get it upstairs. And I had to get a new frame. And I had to get rid of my old mattress myself. All things being equal, I probably could have done just as well with a new mattress from Mattress Firm and they would have taken my old mattress and I could have used my old box spring.
