Because recent reviews are favorable, I wonder if I got a bag from a bad batch. The "use by" date is 9/22/21, so I can't figure out why they had such a stale taste to them. When I opened the bag, I noticed right away that all the pieces on top were very small, like the small pieces one usually finds on the bottom of bags of products such as these onions and various chips. This is the first and perhaps last time I'll buy a large bag of fried onions. Although from the reviews on this large bag, it doesn't sound like what I encountered is a common problem. I'll return this item next time I go to the store.

Very greasy and very small 1/8" to 1/4" pieces. The bag shows all whole rings in the picture, but there is nothing in the bag that resembles in any way a ring of onion
