Overall, Turbotax is easy to use and is my annual go-to software for filing my tax return. However, I give it only 4 stars because I believe it can do a better job on Form 8606. The way the prompts are designed creates inaccuracies, specifically as it relates to tracking prior year basis in a traditional IRA, which then causes a filing error and makes it harder in subsequent years when you do a Roth IRA conversion.

Previous years have been fairly easy without issues. This year there were issues with payer ID information. Allowed more than 7 digits in the entry screen but in the recap only allowed 7 and caused a error loop with no explanation. Had to call and get assistance. Passed the review process but then was rejected by Federal. Turns out there was an entry error that the review did not catch until it was rejected, Then the program highlighted it. This should have been caught in the review process. I did not expect these issues in a "premier" product.

Difficult and confusing at first about adding investment sources. Initially the steps were unclear. Once I determined the method, it was cumbersome because each time I want to add an investment source, TurboTax cycled through the step where I supposedly could find the investment source by using drop down menu. Waste of time, I just entered each investment source on my own.

This yrs turbo tax NOT as user friendly. For some reason I had to go into investments 1099-xxx and manually select and/or enter data. AL state tax same way. In the past yrs - (decades) TurboTax would guide me thru almost painlessly, this year NO SO.

I had trouble importing from my brokerage firm Wells Fargo. I engaged an expert that told me that I might have to input my data manually. I waited a week and tried again. This time I could not import a 1099B without upgrading to Premier. After the upgrade, everything seemed to run fine. I have been using the product for about 20 years I think perhaps more.

The import process was clunky and didn't seem to work this year. I had to manually input my interest and dividends. I was working very hard to avoid the need for estimated tax payments including applying some of my 2025 tax refund to 2026 taxes. After filing I realized I still had estimated tax payments. This was not evident as I prepared my taxes using Turbo Tax. It just felt like Turbo Tax this year was not the same quality as prior years.

Past years program was easy to interface with prepare taxes. Has become much more difficult, program kept asking for import of information from RWBaird that was already provided with first import. Also feel betrayed by the $40 processing fee for federal return, advertised as free for first 5 federal with premier. In summation, I found the whole experience this to be very frustrating and difficult.

The software was difficult to load this year. I clicked on the windows option, but the button would not accept the input...said something to the effect of "windows not supported." I had to stumble around to find another way to load the system up. Also, the product got hung up on my W2 when I tried to enter in the paying institution address. It would not accept the imported input (which seems strange) and it said that only certain characters were accepted, but I only used "acceptable" characters...AND...it wouldn't let me progress beyond that screen. What it wanted (I finally figured out) was the address to be input via multiple boxes. I've had this W2 institution for 5 years now and never had a problem before.

I have used Turbo Tax for the years 2018-2021 and I am very happy with the results. I have used help fo expert team and found it very helpful every time. I have found support yes... Interface ha been also very helpful. I hope to continue using them for the next coming years... 2022-202X thank you. In general I am greatful for Turbotax for someone with a few complications to my tax return (rental property, inherited Roth IRAs). However, Turbotax failed to carry over a home energy tax credit from last year, that I might have missed if I weren't paying close attention. It also raised questions during the "Smart Check" that were very, very difficult to figure out, and which required me to go back and forth with experts through the TT question and answer, over the course of more than a week. How I answered the questions made a difference of mor than $1,300 in my federal tax liability, so it mattered. I do think there are problems with the program, its accuracy and its clarity. But I appreciated the help from the experts.
