Good except for one edge case

TurboTax repeatedly tries to route broker 1099-MISC Box 3 (Other income) and Box 8 (Substitute payments in lieu of dividends) into Schedule C / self-employment, even when the user answers “No” to all business/work/intent questions and deletes the form multiple times. This creates persistent Smart Check errors (principal business code required, linking required, “add new line of work”), phantom Schedule C entries (“Untitled” or temporary), and grayed-out “Unlink” buttons in the 1099-MISC worksheet popup. The income is passive miscellaneous investment income (securities lending substitute payments), not self-employment. It belongs on Schedule 1 Line 8z as “Other income.” Current workarounds (deleting forms repeatedly, entering via Other reportable income, creating-then-deleting temp Schedule C) are time-consuming and error-prone. Please fix the default routing logic for broker 1099-MISC Box 3/8 so it defaults to Other Income (Schedule 1 Line 8z) when no business indicators are present, and improve cleanup when users delete Schedule C. Thanks for the great product overall — this is the only recurring frustration I've had.

turbotax is becoming harder to use

when importing, your system does not fill in last year's 1099. it creates a new 1099 for the same institution and i have to delete last years. i also have another problem with the import function, but i don't know how to describe it other than it's cumbersome to get back and identify each different type of 1099 and start over. i think the prior years import was not as inefficient as 2025.

Sofware glitches

I felt like there were some glitches in the software concerning the sale of a rental townhome in Colorado and a second home in Maryland. I had signed up for Live Tax Advice. The expert manually checked and found errors. She had me fix the errors and finalize the returns.

Turbo tax needs to be easier for students

Honestly It was just the worst to use. I am a student and I have scholarships that I got, I filed in two states, and there was just so many ways this could've been easier. you enter one thing and you see you tax return go from refund 1000 dollars to ow 300 and you are just confused as to what went wrong because what you entered was a scholarship amount, and then 30 minutes later it asks you if the thing you entered was a scholarship and was supposed to be included and then it jumps back to 1000 dollar refund. I hate turbotax

Turbo Tax is great but watch for extra fees

Overall, the software guides you through every key step. There is some repetition in asking for information, but it's probably to avoid errors. I had to do a little trial and error to download 1099 data from my financial institutions. My biggest disappointment was that I paid for a state income tax return, but TurboTax made me pay for it again.

Difficulty with depreciation on rental property

Software inaccuracy in transferring and displaying calculated depreciation on rental property to summary screen on the Asset Entry Worksheet and to Sched E. Had to Select Sched E enter some info manually. I tried forcing TurboTax to recall; then went through each question in the interview very carefully and this didn't work, so I made the manual corrections by deleting the asset, entering everything again and showing the depreciation recorded in prior years. It was a giant pain and quite frustrating.

Turbox Tax installation process is horrible.

I had installation issue this year and last year. The problem is the same that when I tried to do the verification and log into my existing Intuit account via your TurboTax App, it kept saying "Access is denied" without even present me a web interface requesting password. By the way, I have no problem to log into my Intuit account via web browser (using Edge or Chrome" So the issue is definitely not about my authentications but rather something about the handshake between my request for log in to your TurboTax Server. Last year's problem I fixed on my own. This year's problem I opened 3 support tickets with your Support Center. None of the 3 support Rep really understood the root of the issue. The last one (which is supposed to be handled by an Escalation Engineer is among the worse. I already explained to her that we have tried all the following in the first two troubleshooting sessions such as: - disable the VPN and all anti-virus - updated MS last patches - verified the license code. But I told her that the "Access is denied" issue is happening even before the need of presenting the license code. But she kept saying my license code was not the right code and started questing me all the questions about where and when I purchased the software. I gave up tried to convince up and let her repeated all the stuff that we already did it multiple times in the first 2 troubleshoot sessions and sure enough none of that help. She then promised me that she will escalate the case further up and let me know the status. But I have not heard from her at all. Not even with an email saying what is the support case number. I think she just did not file anything to prevent your company know how bad she did. I finally go around the problem by using my wife email address to create a new Intuit account in order to bypassed the "Access is denied" problem. I am not sure how I would fix the same problem if it comes up again next year since I already used my email and my wife email to create two Intuit accounts.

software nit

Had software problem with schedule E Data from work page would not transfer to schedule. Spent to much time on phone while you all tried fix issue. Never fixed. Problem still exists and should be any easy software fix if someone would do it. Other than this better than last years

TT WAS EASY TO GET STUCK, TOOK TOO MUCH TIME AND

TT WAS HARD FOR ME TO USE, WAS INCONSISTENT IN HELPING ME SEE WHAT I NEEDED TO INCLUDE AND WHAT I COULD LEAVE OUT. i HAVE USED TT FOR A LONG TIMME AND IT WON'T AUTO POPULATE ALL THINGS IT COULD. ALSO, TT WOULDN'T FILE AS IT HAD A PROBLEM WITH A QCD. I ENTERED THE QCD MANY TIMES WITH ACCURACYBUT WAS REJECTED WITH NO EXPLANATION

Turbo Tax - easy tax filing

I have been using Turbo tax for the past 5 years - user friendly interface with pop-up description of what the section makes it easier to navigate your way through tax filing. if one has a simple income sources with standard deductions - i would recommend using turbo tax. The only thing i don't like - it is advertised as free federal filing but towards the end there is always a charge waiting to be paid to file your taxes. Haven't figured out how to get around that yet --- some day.
