I just finished e-filing my state and federal returns. I saw a lot of negative comments online associated with the 2025 product, which made me a little leery of buying it for the 2025 tax year. I ended up buying it and found this software to be just as awesome as it's been over the last three decades I've used it. I'll definitely be using it again for 2026 taxes.

The online program is lacking and we wanted to use the software version. TT forced us to use Windows 11 when all our records are on our Windows 10 network which still works fine and securely. A total unnecessary pain in the rear. Also there are many errors in the program—too many to list here, but I will list them if someone inquires.

My difficulties with this years TurboTax is that it requires my to enter different values into Box 16 on the 1099-R forms related to IRA distributions. As a result, the TurboTax 1099-R's do not match the Box 16 values on the 1099-R's provided by my financial institutions too me and the IRS. I paid $5 for Live Tax Advise. I spoke most with Jeanna, and she was very helpful, and recommended that I enter values into those Box 16 entries even though it will men those 1099-R forms will not be identical to those sent to the IRS.

I have been using Turbo Tax for at least the last 15 years and this is the most frustrating experience that I have had in a long while. Unless SIGNIFICANT changes are made to the software, I will NOT be using it again and will NOT recommend it to anyone. Issues: 1) Donation Input - This was ridiculously time consuming, cumbersome and impractical. Last year, there was a dropdown list with recommended values that was extremely helpful. This year's format of documenting EACH INDIVIDUAL ITEM was irritating to no end. It would simply be easier to tell people that you cannot deduct contributions, instead of presenting a format that requires you to jump through so many hoops. Will NEVER use this again. 2) IRA Contributions - The instructions for this were confusing. And I also did not appreciate the attempted upsell to Premier to "maximize my IRA deductions/contributions. I had to go over this section twice before I understood. 3) Payment - Several of the payment pages did not display properly, they did not scroll all the way to the bottom; consequently, I had to figure out a work around to select the "continue"/button to advance to the next page. This was especially worrisome and difficult when I was trying to pay for my state filing. 4) The issue with payment cause another issue: my mouse disappeared on the payment screen(s). Because, I have a touch screen, I was able to work around this, but what if I didn't have a touch screen. Then what? 5) Too much selling and not enough explanation - It seemed that the main focus of the software was to get you to buy another add-on (Audit help/a more expensive version of the software) verses accurate preparation of tax returns. 6) I hated the use of scare tactics to try to entice people to purchase Audit protection...telling people that you might have to pay as much as $2,000 for audit assistance if you wait...shameful. 7) "Walk me through everything" was less helpful than in years past. I found myself continually going "back" to read and re-read...just more work that it needed to be.

I am most unhappy with the changes in the product--no "It's Deductible", cannot review forms before filing (yes, I read the instructions, but preview is not an option unless the return is open an you cannot open the return until it's filed--had to print. I made an error initially reporting a 1099R as a 403 B-it was not and I corrected, but the form kept citing an "error" for simplified method which is not what this is, and the correction that was input multiple times did not stop Turbo Tax from asking for info that was no part of the 1099 R. Also tax returns saved on the computer would not upload from last year, so everything had to be re-entered. As a long time Turbo Tax user, I am very disappointed in this product.

There are some things that aren't explained very well. I had to go to AI for answers. Other than that it's great. It finds last year's info. and inserts it. It reviews and asks for added information. (this is where I wasn't sure at first what to fill in). It shows what we put in last year so it's hard to miss anything. It does all the math so I don't have to. I've used TurboTax for years and really appreciate it knowing what forms I need to fill out.

The interface is more clunky than in years past. Conversely my return was more complicated than in years past. My biggest concern was the need to triple check transfers from financial institutions to be sure everything was correct. Transferring multiple accounts from the same institution is not intuitively obvious... Copilot confirms pretty much anything that isn't obvious in Turbo Tax. It's surprising that this isn't built into the Turbo Tax interface rather than trying to sell upgrades.

I fully recommend buying turbo tax for desktop. I purchase deluxe, includes a free state, ALSO, easy to look at forms as you go, easy to go back and redo items as well. Plus I can file 5 tax returns for free for less money then the app version/online.

So many unexpected fees like the $25 fee at the end for e-filing with the state of Oregon. No autofill on the codes on Box 14 of my W2. Some links are broken or don't work. I spent $120 total for tax service, and probably more than a full day. Had I found an accountant, I would had paid slightly more, by not much and got my taxes done in an hour or two.

I was still using Windows 10, and did not know TurboTax would not work with my operating system. I had to use my laptop as a workaround, and consequently a this required extra steps after we had already downloaded it to our desktop. Due to a service provider's lack of diligence, my first pass found 85+- errors due to missing fields in 1099-R's. Having to complete each form was tedious and disappointing. I realize this is not a TurboTax issue.
