Needs some improvement.

For the most part Turbo tax is easy to use. However, there are certain areas that are more confusing than they need to be. I ran into a comment from Turbo tax that said, " Hm, we ran into a snag, please review the last section", (or something like that). Why not just tell me exactly where the issue is? Obviously, you could program the software to name the section that needs to be reviewed. Also, when you exit turbo tax, and then sign back on, why doesn't it take you back to the place you left off rather than starting at the beginning again? Also, it seems like every time I signed on, the program needed a new update. Are you looking for better programmers or trouble shooters to curtail this problem?

Tax Preparation Great - Captua Security Sucks

The tax preparation program is fine but it took over 20 minutes to get through the Captua routine just to pay you $20. Annoyed enough that I will consider another software after using TurboTax for over 20 years, Everyone in my family had trouble and called me. I can't keep recommending a software that they can't use. TurboTax keeps asking to sign up or spend money and you have gone from trusted to very scammy.

Long-time User

Long-time user of TurboTax, but had to use another product for 2024 because TT wouldn't work on my ten-yr-old Mac. Up-to-date again this year and back to TurboTax. I like the guidance and the mostly orderly way TT leads you through the process. Had some difficulties getting charitable contributions from IRAs to register as deductions this year; initially, they reported as taxable additions to the IRAs, but was able to work through the worksheets to straighten that out. Also got an alert that my ex-wife couldn't have the same SSN as my present wife. Well, it's been fifty years since that divorce, and my ex hasn't figured into my tax returns in a long time. There are quirks and oddities with the product every year, but I stick with TurboTax. I feel a lot more confident when TT says my return is error-free and ready to file.

Turbo Tax is really going DOWNHILL

Double counted my interest income. Through the normal query process I had to enter 3 1099-INT forms manually because the financial institutions (USAA, Cit Bank, and SoFi Bank) were not supported by auto importing. After finishing my taxes and when doing the final check for errors, Turbo tax asked me to confirm Box 1 figures for each of those 1099-INT forms. I assumed this was because I had to manually enter them (No Auto Import). When I entered the box 1 figures Turbo Tax doubled the interest (once for the original entry and then again for this final check). Some disconnect occurred in the programing causing this error. After I ran the program through this portion not once, twice or three time but on the 4th time for whatever reason the program did NOT ask to reenter the box 1 figures and I was able to escape this frustrating loop.

Turbotax desktop

I think Turbotax is confusing to use. It is difficult to switch between forms and the interview. The program does a lot of calculations in the background that you cannot easily see, and sometimes you can't tell what it has done. I have done my own taxes all of my life, and I know how the forms flow, etc., and approximately how the $$ should come out before I even start. But I find it hard to verify how the program is calculating. For example, this year Turbotax calculated a underpayment penalty on our taxes and didn't even flag it or tell me that a penalty was being included! I discovered it AFTER I had electronically filed, while I was doing my own detailed review. The penalty was relatively small ($93) and it was hidden on line 38 of the 1040, but included in the taxes owed (line 37). I feel the program should have alerted me that it calculated and charged me a penalty. I had to file an amended return to correct this and get the penalty back. Also, I resent that Turbotax will only show and print the Form 1040-SR rather than the regular 1040, just because I happen to be over age 65. I should be able to print it in either format! The program also will not print some of its calculation worksheets, which I like to backcheck.

Bad Turbo Tax 2025 with bugs

Horrible this year due to the Canadian force added 1099-R form that keeps on adding without interventions, even when you delete it. You have to delete it from the form by hand. When you charge us money, we expect bug free SW, or an update that gets rid of this VERY time consuming bug.

Turbotax has become too conovoluted

Turbotax has added too many steps, especially in the section for entering investment income. You want to enter interest, then it goes to general stuff, asks about downloading, and you have to click through a thousand screens to just enter some interest. Needs to be streamlined.

IP PIN requirement

Both my Federal and State returns were rejected due to the fact the ID PIN was missing! This was due to the fact that at no point in the process did Turbo tax request the PIN, nor warn it was missing during the review for errors. Given IRS was not forthcoming with the PIN, I finally found I had to log in to their web site to get it. I found the entry point to enter it and resubmitted the return.

Billing/Payment Coordination with E-filing Steps

Pre-paid subscriptions are good but getting the billing or credit applied to the actual filing is disconnected. We paid via email our 2025 download but had to interface with live agent to get accounting straightened out. Even with that done, when performing the E-File steps, it appears we did not get credit for the one state filing included. Now we have to investigate this issue. Confusing and time consuming!

Great software, but could be better

I have used TurboTax for several years and have been pleased with the service, However, this year, I had to re-enter all my information because I could not transfer our return from last year to this year. In addition, I could not find where to apply my refund to next year's Ohio income tax, so I just had it refunded.
