Generally love TurboTax desktop but had glitches

Love the ability and help TurboTax provides with filling taxes independently. I have used the desktop version in the past but my 2025 Mac system had some glitches this year that made some of the work through complicated with errors I had to manually fix in the files themselves.

TurboTax Review--5 Stars

We've used TurboTax for many years, for my wife and my personal taxes and for my small business. While there's been occasional hick-ups, It is far easier and smoother to file using the TurboTax software tha doing it manually and definitely less expensive than going to a tax professional.

TurboTax Is My Tax Reporting Tool of Choice

TurboTax gets the job done. I have some complexities like K-1s that raise topics that aren't fully covered in the TT Home & Business product but it gets me close enough to find other answers myself. It also makes it easy to cover my wife's small business. I have used the product for years and am comfortable with the user interface and process for completing my return. I will continue using this product in the future.

TurboTax id flawed

Form 4684 is non-compliant. After about 6 hours and at least that many different calls, I was told that E-Filling isn't available if using that form if loss is due to Ponzi. This will be my last year with TurboTax. If you can't support better than that, I'll go elsewhere

Turbo Tax is up to date on all tax changes

One issue I had is that the return for my daughter indicated that she could deduct $8,000 to her IRA. We did that, then TurboTax said she was not eligible for the deduction. I called and talked to a Turbo Tax expert and she looked it up and found that the $8,000 can not reduce self employment taxes.

Added features

Up sales are too aggressive. Income summary would be helpful to include the calculated "Provisional Income" amount. Not possible to evaluate the Accuracy. The only way I know of is to pay a professional to review what Turbo Tax calculates or to get a nasty gram from IRS or State of IL about an error. Feature to import the Reported Income Transcript from the IRS web site to see if any income items were overlooked. I will not be paying the $25 fee for the State Filing. That fee is excessive. I have three ETF that are collectables and Turbo Tax requires double data entry to enter the cost basis for each of the monthly sales to cover the administration and storage costs

Same Critical Bug Two Years in a Row — Almost Made

I’ve used TurboTax Desktop for two years, and the same issue happened both times — which is honestly unacceptable. When transitioning from Federal to State, the software suddenly freezes. When you force quit and reopen, it looks like everything is gone. After spending hours working on taxes, this is extremely stressful and feels like you’ve lost all your data. Only after digging around do you realize there is an auto-saved file hidden somewhere, but TurboTax does not make this clear at all. The UI gives the impression that your return has disappeared, which creates unnecessary panic. What makes this worse is what happens next: Right when you’re in that panic state, the software pushes you toward purchasing the State add-on. Last year, we ended up paying about $50 for State because we thought something was missing — only to later realize our package already included it. The fact that this exact issue happened in the exact same place two years in a row raises serious concerns. At best, this is poor software design. At worst, it feels like a dark pattern that pressures users into unnecessary purchases during a moment of confusion. For a paid desktop product handling something as critical as taxes, this kind of experience is unacceptable. Fix your save/recovery flow, and stop putting users in a position where they feel like their data is lost.

Frustrating "Refile" Loop – Software fails to prom

I’m disappointed with the "Fix it" process for rejected returns. My 1040 was rejected by the IRS for a missing Identity Protection PIN (Error IND-181-01), but TurboTax failed to prompt me for the PIN during the resubmission flow. It allowed me to resubmit without making any actual changes, leading to a second automatic rejection. I had to manually dig through the "Other Tax Situations" menu to find the input field because the software didn't guide me there. This loop wasted significant time and should be an easy fix for the developers.

TurboTax - look for the IRS IP PIN input location

I've been using TurboTax since about 1989, the floppy disk days. I haven't had any problems with it for some relatively complex tax issues. Recently, there have been concerns about security and the IRS implemented a special six-digit ID. That's great, it adds security to the previous security measures. However, due to my comfort with TT, I don't use the Guide Me feature and missed one important step that helped with security. I didn't see the IP PIN input location which is buried in "other tax issues". When my e-file return was rejected, the TT message how to fix it was not clear. I talked with the customer service rep who was quite friendly and explained the situation (I had discovered the solution on my own. I'm not sure the message will get through to the programmers and can't tell this year because I have completed the e-file steps.

First year I've had issues

I have used Turbotax Home and Business for many years. This year was the first year that I would encounter an error when I go to pay for the State. It would not let me proceed. Upon numerous conversations with Turbotax and trying some things on my end, it still would not let me put in my card information to charge the state e file, therefore I had to mail them in, something I haven't had to do in many years. Please fix whatever this issue is, because I won't be using Turbotax again unless it's figured out.
