[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I accepted the JBL PartyBox Encore 2 because I wanted a portable speaker that combined powerful audio with built-in karaoke capability and long runtimes for both family gatherings and workouts. Its promise of JBL’s signature bass, dynamic lighting, and a removable battery seemed to match my needs for durability and flexibility. The inclusion of a wireless microphone and customizable lightshow offered an all-in-one solution that could entertain guests or drive motivation during exercise.
During our first family gathering, the karaoke feature worked seamlessly with Apple Music’s karaoke function, bringing everyone together to belt out tunes. The speaker’s volume and clarity ensured that every voice came through crisply. On workout days, I found it compact enough to carry by its soft-touch top handle, and the robust bass kept energy levels high throughout each routine.
The build quality feels solid and high-end, standing up well to both indoor use and outdoor transport. I appreciated the built-in microphone holders that kept accessories organized and ready at a moment’s notice. The removable battery was a great idea for extending playtime, although tracking down official replacement batteries required extra effort through third-party sellers.
I expected the advertised fifteen-hour battery life to sustain over a full day of moderate use, but I consistently saw closer to ten hours when the lightshow was active. Turning off the lights helped stretch runtime, but buyers should plan for shorter playtimes under full-feature use. Carrying a spare battery or a high-capacity power bank greatly improved my overall experience.
Controlling lights and sound effects through the JBL PartyBox app was enjoyable, and the effect lab added creative flair. However, the effect lab felt underdeveloped, as though it were an afterthought rather than a polished feature. I also found it frustrating to juggle multiple JBL apps for different devices and would welcome a single unified application.
Overall, the PartyBox Encore 2 delivers on its promise of loud, bass-heavy sound and immersive lighting that elevate any gathering. Its portability, premium build, and built-in karaoke features make it ideal for families, home entertainers, and fitness enthusiasts seeking a versatile audio companion. Prospective buyers should know that battery life may fall short of expectations and that spare batteries aren’t widely available through official channels. But if you are keeping it at home most of the time that isn't a great concern since it can be plugged in.
I awarded four stars because the Encore 2 excels in audio performance and party features yet leaves room for improvement in battery longevity and app consolidation. Knowing beforehand about the difficulty in purchasing additional batteries and the fragmented app ecosystem would have set more realistic expectations. My positive experience aligns well with the rating I provided.
I have included high-resolution photos showcasing the speaker’s lightshow and a short video demonstrating the karaoke feature to highlight how the PartyBox Encore 2 fits into both family gatherings and workout sessions.
