[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Arlo security system comprises a range of cameras and sensors designed to provide comprehensive surveillance for homes or businesses. One of its primary strengths lies in its wire-free setup, making installation a breeze without the need for complex wiring. The cameras come in various models, including the Arlo Pro, Arlo Pro 2, and Arlo Ultra, offering different features and capabilities. I had actually been looking at this system when I received the Arlo Security system with 2 sensors for review- additionally I purchased a camera to add to the system.
The cameras are known for their high-definition video quality, delivering crisp images and videos during both day and night, thanks to features like HD resolution, night vision, and even 4K resolution in some models. The wide-angle lens provides a broad field of view, enabling users to monitor large areas with just a single camera. Two-way audio facilitates communication, allowing users not only to hear but also speak through the camera, enhancing its utility for home security or visitor interaction.
Motion detection sensors trigger the cameras to start recording when activity is sensed, which is a key feature to conserve battery life and storage space. The Arlo system can be customized to specify zones where motion detection is active, reducing false alarms triggered by irrelevant movements.
Additionally, the Arlo system typically offers cloud storage to store recorded footage, enabling remote access via a user-friendly mobile app. This functionality allows users to view live streams, receive alerts, and playback recorded clips from anywhere with an internet connection. However, a subscription might be necessary for accessing advanced features or extended cloud storage.
The sensors in the Arlo system, such as door and window sensors or motion sensors, add another layer of security. These sensors can be placed strategically around the property to detect any unauthorized entry or movement, sending alerts to the user's device in real-time. They have aspects they monitor which is unlike anything I’ve seen from competitors- Arlo sensors monitor for all of the following:
Motion
Open/Close
Water Leak
Freeze
Tilt
Ambient lighting
Smoke Alarm Listening (Standard T3 Pattern) 2
CO Alarm Listening (Standard T4 Pattern) 2
I am currently using the system without professional paid service monitoring- subscription costs for additional cloud storage or advanced features could be a concern for some.
In summary, the Arlo security system's wireless, customizable, and user-friendly nature, combined with high-quality cameras and sensors, makes it a popular choice for those seeking a comprehensive and convenient home surveillance solution.
