the strength of tape without the damage

I had to bundle up a closet package for a friend. I used 3M Blue painters tape to wrap the melamine shelves and the white brackets together. It held like packing tape yet when he removes it there will be no tape residue on the white melamine or metal. Sweet!

Don't Buy if you like your paint on the walls

This tape sucks. It peels your paint off the wall. We used it a while ago to make lines on our wall and left it on for a few days to ensure crisp lines, and it pulled chunks off the wall. Tried again for a very quick 10-minute usage, and it STILL pulled paint off the wall. After TEN MINUTES! 0/10 do not recommend.

Peeled off paint primer and drywall paper

Bought this trusting the 3M name instead of buying other brands. Though it does do a good job of not letting paint soak through, that was the only pro. I am Sorely disappointed in the results, and apparently not the only one that had them. Taped off sections of primered ceiling and walls to get ready for paint and anywhere I have peeled it off has damaged the primer and drywall. Extremely disappointed and sick knowing that the other spots I have yet to peel are now going to be ruined as well.

Best for Kids stuff

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have 3 young children who I have to label every toy, shirt, book, cup, blanket, coat, hat, etc they wear or bring to school and daycare. I use the blue 1/2 to label everything. I also hand every kids art project in my house with it. IT is the BEST!!! It even stays on in the wash for about 5 washes!

Various uses beyond simply painting

We have used the tape as directed for lining out ares for painting and it works very well to maintain separation from painted and non-painted surfaces. I have spent time working with my brother at Black River Center for Learning at Carlsbad, NM where he manages a retreat center. Beyond the projects involving paint and repairs, he prepares meals for the groups coming there for a break from their lifestyle and always has some food left over that needs to be stored. So it is also good for marking various food containers that need to be refrigerated or frozen. The tape holds tight enough to stay, yet releases without causing harm to a container or even plastic baggies and the color contrast helps with seeing the markings of contents. This allows us to know the contents and date of food item without having to open the container each time to see. Other uses would be simply to hold an item in location on a painted wall until you find an alternative substance or solution is found to hold it on a more permanent basis. We used it on a variety of surfaces from painted drywall, bathroom tile, swimming pool tiles and even glass windows.

great for what I do

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I use this for wood flooring all the time and it works great for keeping the plastic up while I sand the floor. Plus if I have to stain an area darker I use this tape to mask it off and I don't get any bleed back

Lots of edge bleed

took my time cleaning and prepping the woodwork, made sure no grease, dirt, and dry. this is for a set of maple French doors with off-white trim. the white bleed through the edge all around the door. so much for a clean tight edge...so disappointed. don't buy this stuff, find another product.

The best for multi surface adhesion

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We recently did a residential repaint. The homeowner had all the woo floors refinished so we applied Rosin paper and used 2" 3m tape to hold the paper to the foors with great results and no damage to the floors. I will only use 3M products for my business !

Easy to apply, easy to remove and protected the su

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I used this for an interior project - I was painting the baseboards and needed to tape off the hardwood floors so I did not get paint on them. The product was easy to apply and easy to remove after I finished painting. The best part was no bleeding through!

It really pays to buy the brand name product.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I didn't want to pay the price, so I tried an imitation product. I am new to painting and thought that by using the brand name product I was just paying for the name. I taped off the ceiling in my bathroom and painted the ceiling. It is a small powder room and when I cut in the edges, I got paint on the tape (that's why I put up tape). The paint dried and when I tried to pull the tape off, it pulled paint off the wall and the tape shredded making removal very hard and forcing me to touch up portions of the wall. Never again. I am sticking to the ScotchBlue painter's tape because it does what it is supposed to do and does not damage the walls.
