People talk crap about this but need to understand that for the money it does what it needs to do. PlayStation would have to create a whole new game card etc to give us a psp like before. Maybe that’ll come in the future but for now this is pretty good. I play it more than actually picking up my controller. Long as you have WiFi you’re good.

Exceeded my expectations, Absolutely love it!

This item I purchased for myself so I could play my ps5 when I’m away from home and I have to say it’s definitely worth the purchase! The graphics 100% rely on how good your internet is, if you’re connected to a hotspot for example you may notice a decrease in image quality but as long as you’re connected to an actual Wi-Fi connection the graphics are great!! The controller I thought may be odd to use considering it looks like they split a ps5 controller in half and attached it to the sides of a tablet, but surprisingly enough it grew on me and is actually pretty easy to get used too. Another thing I really like is the interaction on the device, the screen itself is a touchscreen so you don’t have to navigate the home menus with the analog sticks. Overall the device exceeded my expectations and I’ve been having quite a lot of fun using it, perfect for people who are away from home but still want to enjoy their PlayStation 5. Last note to add, if you don’t have a PS5 don't turn away thinking you won’t be able to use it, the PlayStation portal uses cloud streaming, meaning regardless of having a PS5 you can stream games that have been released or remastered on PS5, and their adding new games to the catalog each month!

Overall, it's a pretty good machine, but I ultimately ended up returning it. Aside from some occasional lag, my main issue was with syncing; a lot of the time, my gameplay on the Portal wouldn't sync up with my PS5, or vice versa. When you couple those connectivity headaches with the mandatory monthly subscription cost just to play online, it just wasn't worth keeping.

The only thing I do not appreciate is that you can’t play the portal and also play a different game on the PS5 at the same time. You also have to be connected to the same internet connection as the ps5 so I can’t take the portal on car rides. Sadly, It’s collecting more dust than I intended too thanks to these restrictions.

I didn’t think cloud gaming was advanced enough to handle modern games. But after getting my Portal i could not be happier. There is considerable lag when attempting multiplayer FPS and racing games. Even the streaming options leaves a lot to be desired but this thing really shines when you have a premium subscription and you stream either the games you own or games on the premium subscription catalog. Anno 1800 and Madden are a treat on this thing. I just need EA FC added to streaming and i’ll be set. Overall very satisfied.

This beautiful device does feel like holding a dualshock controller with the screen replacing the touchpad, as promised. However, it is very weak at capturing wifi, and does not recognize a premium subscriber to stream games per last update. if i have not started the game in my ps5 and then switch to the portal, it will not play. i have tried multiple wifi sources to eliminate the issue being with my router, and found the portal unable to fulfill its marketed role. My phone can use remote play and connect where the portal can't, and I have a galaxy from many years ago; doesnt make sense remote play on my phone is better than whatever the portal is intended for. furthermore, the portal is physically weaker/sensitive than a dualshock or dualsense; 2 days after purchase the right thumbstick got stuck against the box the device came in, and is now broken and in need of service. i bought it just before the price bump, and now I wonder if I was better off without smh. Maybe i have a model that has bad wifi and weak thumbsticks, but it has not shown itself worth the cost if you have a backbone or other gaming device that connects to your phone. Perhaps I got a bad one, and whatever comes from the warranty will solve all of my concerns.

This is a sad experience coming from Sony. When will the greed be enough? “$250 app with the battery of an iPad and a goofy controller layout” (“oh but adap-“ it’s corny. And unless you’re playing an old old game or maybe MineCraft would it be remotely not uncomfortably awkward to use.) This has the potential to be so great, but Sony paywalls the most basic software I mean bro I’m ready for them to not support household console sharing at this rate. You can’t even switch users on this, oh I mean you can’t but you have to sign out on the portal and the app and then sign into your other account on your app just so you can scan the QR code to log into that account. Just writing this makes me sick to my stomach.

I went in having high expectations for the PS Portal. Playing on Wi-Fi at the house works flawlessly with the new updates, streaming and connected to PlayStation. But when you leave the house, even on good Wi-Fi or a hotspot, games are unplayable. I've tried multiple times on different networks to give it a fair shake, but still, game lag or the system crashes almost instantly. Hopefully, PlayStation will come out with a standalone system; until then, the Portal is not for me.

Good for Walmart boo for manufacturers

This is not what I expected, but that is not Walmart’s fault. The issue is with Sony, not the retailer. The product itself did not meet my needs, so it was not a good fit for me. That said, someone else with different expectations or uses may still find it to be a good product.
