Only Michelin Will Do on My Forester!

I purchased my Michelin Defender 2 radials as replacements for my unacceptable OEM tires when we purchased our new 2024 Subaru Forester, insisting that the dealer replace those tires with the much-superior Defender 2s. It caused a bit of a stir but they went along with it and we couldn't have been happier since then. Between the Ice-X 3s that we roll with during the winter months, our Forester is "Michelin-covered" year-round and for many years to come!

Sticks to the Road Like a Tongue to Ice

I put these snow tires on my Accord, and I have to say, they are the best I've found yet. I'm admittedly a bit of a fast driver despite the weather and I always feel secure and firmly attached to the road with my Xice Xi2's. Almost like a tongue to a metal pole on an icy February morning. My only complaint is that they sometimes take a second to grip when starting from a stop. And the gas mileage isn't what you'd get with all seasons, but it's a more than fair trade for the added grip and piece of mind.

Nice tires but not performance oriented enough

Tires ride smoothly and quietly. Was hoping to replace my Michelin Primacy with another set of Michelin Primacy. Old tires had plenty of tread but were getting old (summer only car with low mileage). The Defender do not corner like the Primacy. The Primacy were more performance oriented and you can tell the difference. Unfortunately the Primacy in my tire size is no longer available (225R60/16). I do not drive like a race car driver but when I made a U-turn, you could tell they didn't grip the same. Also when making a left turn with and advanced light, sometimes I can tell my tires are slipping (accelerate a little too hard for the tires). I wish the Primacy were still available in my size.

Traction B???

I bought a set of four of the Defender 2 model earlier this month expecting them to be an improved version of my previous Michelin Defender tires. What I didn't know until I got home and had a chance to look them over more closely was that the traction rating is “B,” unlike the previous model of tires which were rated “A” for traction. What a disappointment! Why would you have this mediocre traction design to the Defender 2, Michelin? My only other Michelin option for the size I need was the snow tire model, but I wanted year round, all season tires and that left the Defender 2 as the remaining choice. While it's great to buy tires made in the USA, this traction B rating seems rather bush league coming from such a renowned manufacturer.

reply from Consumer Care MIC US

Up North, The UTQG traction grade is a 40-year-old, locked-wheel wet braking test and is, in our estimation and in the estimation of the U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association, a method that is outdated and inconsistent because all modern vehicles have anti-lock brakes. A braking test based on anti-lock brakes measuring peak adherence rather than slide adherence, which is better suited for today’s vehicle. Michelin has chosen to design tires based on anti-lock braking, not locked-wheel braking. This sometimes produces a lower locked-wheel result, even though our testing and independent testing used in claims show the MICHELIN® Defender®2 tire to have superior wet braking over leading competitors. This question is an excellent one and highlights why regulation needs to be updated and/or eliminated as technology changes and improves. Our testing and independent testing show that consumers will be very pleased with the wet braking performance of the MICHELIN® Defender®2 tire, not only in when the tire is new, but even as it wears.

Michelin X-ice - no problem!

Michelin tires are used on my car. The great thing about this product is its name..Michelin. Let me share a story. We had moved to CO 4yrs ago. We had always used Michelin tires, but for some reason I thought I might need a different tire for the harsh CO Winter. I asked the retailer what tires would he put on his wife's vehicle for this part of the world, he replied "Bear Claw." I immediately purchased four tires. OMG- never again. I think I prayed and cursed more that Winter..did that retailer hate his wife? I couldn't get out of my driveway some days when the snow and ice hit. Needless to say the following year I went back to Michelin X-ice. The first day the snow and ice came I was taking my children to school. We started to leave our driveway and after a little wheel spinning, the car rolled out of the driveway, I looked at my children, eyes bulging in anticipation of getting stuck, and said with a smile, "Michelin X-ice- no problem." and we all laughed. Thank you Michelin, great name..great product..

No Worries

During winter months I drive to work on a road that can become dangerously icy. Before purchasing my new X-ice Xi2 tires I always used studded tires during the months that they were allowed. Last November I decided to forgo the hassel of deadlines of when studded tires could be put on and and when they had to be taken off and researched winter tire options. I couldn't be more happy with my choice of the Michelin X-ice Xi2 tires! I drove with confidence on the winter roads.

Excellent handling and quiet

With only 10,500 miles on our 2024 Honda CRV Sport Touring AWD Hybrid, we picked up a nail in a non-repairable spot (I spent 25+ years in automotive repair and tires so I know when I have to replace and not repair). Unfortunately it was going to take about a week to ge the same exact Michelin tire to replace this one, but my daughter has to leave to go back to college in the early morning. The option was to buy another set of tires and keep the 3 good ones. So that is what we did. The Michelin Defender 2 is a great tire with an 80,000 mile life expectancy. It handles well and provides a nice smooth and quiet ride. If there is one thing I cannot stand, it is a noisy ride on my car (looking in the direction of other major tire brands that sponsors variations of auto races and monster trucks). Back to these specific tires though, the handling is great and my daughter that drives this car even mentioned that she likes these tires better than the orignial ones that came on the car. The tires are responsive and flex the way they should to provide a smooth and quiet drive. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for an excellent tire.

excellent snow tire

After many years of not using snowtires, thinking they were un-necessary, I decided to buy a set of snow tires. A freak heavy fall snowstorm persuaded me. I chose the X ice. Phenominal tire. Smooth on dry pavent. Excellent water and slush repellency. Tenacious grip on snow and ice. I could climb hills 4wd vehicles could not (i had fwd). Best feature of all, the vehicle would never slide sidesways...ever. the tires would grip and stop a slide. Very confidence inspiring. Also i got about 5 seasons out of them. Very long lasting. I would not buy a different snow tire.

Awesome on a Prius

I replaced the factory tires on my 2008 Prius at 32,700 mi in the fall of 2009 with a set of X-Ice 205/55R16 Winter tires. They are one size larger, but that was all that was available from my dealer at that time. Well, after 3 years and 57,000 miles later, its been a wonderful "year-round" ride with gas mileage usually in the mid forties. I have 89,800 miles on the car now, so its time to replace them, but this time I'm trying to buy a set of X-Ice3 of the factory recommended size, 195/55R-16/XL. We'll see if they perform as well as these have. This experience says a whole lot for X-Ice quality, comfort, wear and handling as an all-season tire for a Prius Touring car.

Best Winter Tire I've owned

I have a job that requires me to work regardless of the weather. Doesn't matter if we have ice storms or snow I have to get to work. And no I'm not a postal worker. In the 34 years that I've worked here I've had quite a few sets of so called stud-less ice tires. The only set that I have 100% confidence in are my Michelin X-Ice. So much so that I have a set for my wife's car and she now has the confidence to get off our hill and into work when she needs too. We'll be buying a new car soon and the first purchase for it will be a set of X-Ice.
