After a year of use I give it a hearty thumbs up.
I use the j7 in combination with a Brava Jet m6. They have done a fantastic job. The j7 just works the way it supposed to. The mapping feature allows it to efficiently vacuum any space. No more random bumping around. It's nice to program the whole house or just individual rooms and it just does what it's told to do. And it does it well. While it's not absolutely perfect it has saved many hours of manual labor and in the end my home is probably cleaner than it would have been if I was doing all the vacuuming. The only real problem I've had is it twice completely lost all scheduled programs. It only took a few minutes to recreate the programs but even contacting iRobot produced no reason as to why the programs were lost. It will get tangled on shoelaces in a heartbeat. It doesn't get completely into every last nook and cranny and of course it doesn't do baseboards, so every few months I still have to follow up with a regular vacuum. Overall though I'd say it gets just about 99% percent of the house vacuumed very well. I only have a few items on my wishlist to make it better. 1. Quit constantly asking me about clean zone suggestions. If I want a clean zone, I'll create it myself. 2. Let me quickly select a room for vacuuming without setting up a favorite. Just give me a simple list of rooms and let me select one to vacuum right now. I don't want a lengthy list of favorites for every conceivable room combination. 3. Give me a way to delay or pause a scheduled cleaning without cancelling the cleaning altogether. 4. Let me select the order of rooms to be vacuumed. The order is currently random and is never the same. At least let me first select the rooms that will be mopped so that the Brava jet can go ahead and do its job. As it is, on the days that the whole house is vacuumed and just the kitchen is mopped, the kitchen must sit prepped half the day waiting the the vacuum to completely finish its entire schedule.
It's not a luxury price tag it is just actually THAT MUCH BETTER in tech
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The roomba J9+ is an incredible vacuum. This vacuum is a high performing computer compared to a calculator. It feels light years ahead compared to a normal roomba. I've been a long time roomba customer as I have a golden retriever who sheds like crazy and my house has NEVER been this consistently clean. The vacuum is also extremely quiet. At one point I forgot that I had set it's schedule for 9am on a weekend and I didn't even know it was running until I got up to make coffee and it was doing is thing. The maps are very accurate and easy to work with. I spilled some dirt in my laundry room after tipping over one of my plants. I just sent my roomba over directly to the laundry and BAM spotless!! No need to take out my big vacuum. This product in comparison is light years in technology away from any other vacuum. The self emptying feature is also amazing. We have a pretty big house. It's first cleaning/mapping run took 8 hrs but boy the house was clean after that. The making features are A-MA-ZING too. After the robot's done cleaning your house it will let you know of any obstructions it identified and ask if they are permanent so they can avoid it in the future. In one room I have a large decorative mirror that rests on the floor. I used to always have my husband move the mirror so it wasn't hit by our old roomba. Now I can mark where I don't want the roomba to go. It's incredible it takes a wide path around any objects you mark as do not clean around. If your somebody who has vases or plants set for level this vacuum is a game changer. Honestly I know the price seems high but if you have dogs or cats who routinely shed, a large house, fragile items on the floor, or all of the above like me it is WORTH the price to get routinely clean floors and peace of mind that you're not going to come home to broken or damaged item All the while of having perfectly clean floors. This product is so distinctly different in Performance that i'm kicking myself for not getting it earlier. It's a game changer and worth the investment. It's truly not a mark up because it's pretty or fancier looking. No it is just THAT MUCH BETTER.
Yes I would buy the J7 again! Without any Hesistation
I have (2) I Robot Vacuums and a Mop. The J& is by far my favorite. It mages to clean my kids room avoiding all obstacles the kids leave in their rooms. I have noticed that sometimes the Robot does not follow the same mapping and bumps into door frames. Normally a rest solve that issue and it works great. The J7 is not perfect but I still love it and would buy it again.
Highly recommend as an Asthmatic mom with dogs!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] As an asthmatic with dogs I spend a lot of time vacuuming and having good quality tools really improves my life. I have a canister vac, a stick vac, a mopping vacuum and 3 roombas. I have a 690 that I've had for over 5 years, an i6+ and now the j9+. We still use all three - 690 in the basement, j9 on main floor and i6 upstairs. So I have a good comparison for pros and cons and have tried almost every vac out there. Pros: -this roomba is SO QUIET! it has 3 suction levels and even on high suction it's quiet. It's amazing. - it's quick and maps really well. -it fits under furniture better than any roomba I've had. Great for getting under the couch (and the obstacle pictures help me find all the lost dog toys, kids toys and socks!) -I have 2 dogs and it does such a great job getting all their fur -I have asthma so being able to do a nightly vacuum into the self emptying stand is amazing (highly recommend a drop or 2 of an essential oil on the bag so when it empties it smells so nice! -I have 2 dogs and a 3 year old. I LOVE that it avoids obstacles. Even if I'm too tired to pick up the toys I can run the roomba and it's not perfect, but it's still much better!! Cons: - struggles more with bigger debris than I've experienced with other roombas. I set a clean zone around the table where my 3 year old plays play doh to catch the dried bits overnight and I find that with even smaller than pinky nail size chunks, it mostly pushes them around. Not a deal breaker but something to know. -our room thresholds are a bit tall but not beyond what I've expected a roomba to handle in the past - and about 50% of the time it's successful and the other half it gives up. It's frustrating because it could go around the other way, our rooms are in a loop. But if it can't go living room>hallway>kitchen it gives up and skips the room. Even though it can go living room>dining room>kitchen and is successful 100% of the time. I wish I could set a route to the kitchen!
Hi iRobot Customer, thank you for letting us know about your experience. We're happy to hear your excitement for our products!
Money pit
Very disappointed. Spent a ton of money on this thing in January only for it to completely stop working already. I have followed all the steps and have done everything possible to get rid of "Error 26" and still nothing. Now if I want to fix an already very expensive vacuum, I have to spend MORE money to replace the head module if I ever want it to work again. I guess the old "You get what you pay for" saying doesn't include this pricey machine.
Hi Keo, this isn't the experience we'd like you to have, and we'd love the opportunity to turn it around. We have just e-mailed you in order to help out.
Awesome machine!
This I'd my third Roomba. Unfortunately two were stolen from a mover. I got the one that self empties and it's great. It's very loud when emptying but it's only for a few seconds so I can live with it. My neighbor downstairs might not like it but oh well. This machine has a lot of suction and does a great job with cat hair from three cats! I set it to clean automatically twice a week and go on with other things. Well worth the money!
Very glitchy and takes rebooting a LOT, do not recommend!
When it works it is great. The sensors are very finicky and will always say it has some sort of malfunction. I have to reboot and restart sometimes twice a week. The brushes are always getting tangled and have to be cleaned out almost very use. Dust will get on the sensor and then say it needs fixed when really it just needs wiped off (like almost every use).
Hi iRobot Customer, we apologize for the inconvenience that was caused, and we would be happy to assist you with resolving the issue. We have just e-mailed you, so we can help out.
Best vacuum upgrade yet!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This has been the best vacuum upgrade yet! This has been a game changer when it comes to cleaning and any Roomba upgrade. One of the best features is the napping for areas in the house. Especially right now with the holidays you can tell your Roomba not to go near the Christmas tree or within a certain range of it so it doesn't bump into any decorations. We use the Roomba almost every night once the day is done, and especially in the kitchen. We will tell the Roomba to come out, clean the kitchen and go back. It is definitely one of the most powerful Roomba that we have yet had in our house. The self emptying function is one of the best qualities of the Roomba j9. Although the self emptying function is quite loud it is worth it in the end. You can let the Roomba j9 clean the entire house without having to empty the basket each time it is full. You can leave the house and it can finish the entire cleaning job. I would highly recommend the Roomba j9 self emptying vacuum!
If you have pets, skip this one
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received this vacuum for free in exchange for my honest review so here it is. The iRobot J8+ has some pros and some notable cons. Admittedly, I am comparing against the Shark Matrix, which we’re happy with. The pros: self emptying canister, doesn’t get “as stuck” as our Shark Matrix. It does a great job of scanning the room and with navigation overall. Irobot seemed a little confused when the lights are off though, unlike our Shark, which does great in the dark. Now for my honest cons: the self-emptying mechanism is LOUD. It sounds like a jet engine taking off every time it finishes a cleaning cycle and empties the bin. Admittedly, my Shark is not self-emptying, so maybe that’s normal? As far as cleaning goes, I’m not sure if it’s the rollers or what, but it leaves a lot of hair behind (we have a very fluffy cat with sticky undercoat), even on the high-suction setting. This was extremely disappointing so I would tell Roomba to continue developing suction power or look at different rollers perhaps? Our Shark Matrix (even on the normal setting) gets all of the hair in one pass, which is exactly what you’d expect. And honestly, the Shark makes a cuter sound when it’s finished too. I have attached pics to demonstrate the cleaning power of both the Roomba iRobot J8+ and the Shark Matrix
Fantastic vacuum
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Love it! The vacuum does an amazing job keeping the floors clean. It does a great job navigating around the house and furniture. I also appreciate that it doesn’t get stuck on my rugs. I just love how easy it is and saves me time vacuuming my floors.
