Loud thump in area of rear right wheel.

I purchased this 26" Schwinn Meridian Adult Tricycle on line the last of July, from Walmart. It was delivered to my home. After assembly and riding it a short time there was a loud thump in the area of the right rear wheel. It appears to be a common problem, that I did not know before I purchased this item. When I called the 800 number for Schwinn customer service, I was advised to remove the rear wheel and tap on it with a plastic hammer to seat the bearings. This solved the problem for about a week. I contacted, on line, customer service and was advised they were sending me bearings. I am 75 years, have very few tools, and no idea how to replace these bearings. I am still waiting to see what will be done on this situation. Loading this trike to take to Walmart will be a major task. Schwinn is a long time good name in bikes. What has happened?

Good 4.5 to Excellent

Both my daughter and I bought one and they take a bit to get used to at first, but they are great. Now that we are more comfortable with them, we've accessorized them with cell phone panniers, bells and combination locks and along with my three grandsons 14-12-11) will be taking them with us to Galveston to ride on the coast. Wonderful sense of freedom for 63 y.o heart patient grandmother and I don't have to juggle with thing, just put them in the basket and go! Fenders rub and look off set - may remove them, so they don't get an excellent rating.

Read before buying for yourself

The box it came in was covered in dents, cuts, and holes. The bike itself was covered in dents, two bent fenders, scratches on the handlebars, steering wheel bolt will not tighten, stripped bolt, had I known it would be this much trouble I wouldn't have bought it. Very disappointed.

This is a great bike, the only defect is a rim I will contact customer service tomorrow. My 10 year old tried it out today and she loved it, the bike is light and sturdy. I understand items sometimes come with small defects this time the rim has a defect but hopefully we are able to get a replacement.

Rattles nonstop

I bought this to carry my 50 pound elderly bulldog in. If I didnt need it for that, I would definitely not buy this just to ride around on. I had to have 2 different bike assembly guys assemble it. One of the tire tubes had a leak I. It so we had to put sealant in it. But the biggest problem is it rattles. I mean IT RATTLES!!! I come clanking down the street sounding like Im dropping parts behind me. I thought Schwann was a decent brand but I would absolutely not buy it again.

Meridian: the good, the bad, and the ugly...

This is the second Meridian I have purchased from Walmart: no problems with the delivery, quite speedy. It is great for level ground (don't try it on hills!) and is stable in the ice and snow, which is why I have one. The first lasted 4.5 years (2400 miles) living outside in the ice, snow, salt, and rain, and eventually died of rust (rear bearing failure followed by the rear axle breaking). If you own one, be sure to also buy a chain breaker as you will need to do a lot of chain repair. The small chain in the rear stretches a bit, and if you don't have it really really tight (very hard to do) you will enter the chain popping/breaking cycle. Eventually you will need to replace it - over and over again. After four or five replacements, I got smart and used a "heavy" chain, which seemed to do the trick (no chain breaking, even when it loosened up a bit). You might want to get such a chain (pretty cheap) and put it on at the start instead of the one provided. My new Meridian (purchased after the rear axel failure of the first one) was not quite as well constructed as the first. The seat springs popped through their support making it unrideable. I'd kept the old one from the first trike, though, and so I just swapped it out. Also, the fender nuts (preinstalled) were loose, and three fell out (I will need to find replacements, but it still works). Thus, check these for tightness when you put it together. As others have commented, assembly is not for the faint of heart, but I had no serious problems. In conclusion, it is a good choice for a trike - but their assembly quality seems to have slipped a bit (and the price has gone up), and the rear chain still has issues (the new one broke after only around 80 miles, but again I had kept the "heavy" replacement chain from the dead one, so I swapped out and kept triking...). It is very heavy - in fact it triggers the sensor at the local Wendy's drive-thru, which is quite convenient! Not so convenient going up hills, however...

Great ride and sturdy.

The bike rides very smooth. If the person buying it is older, they need to watch the youtube video's and be very careful. It does have a different feel then riding a regular bike and sometimes feels as if it pulls to one side. I have only had it about a week and am still adjusting but it does feel comfortable and feels sturdy. I have had knee surgery and I know I need to exercise but walking is just too uncomfortable so I am hoping this allows me to get much needed exercise.

Schwinn Trike

Check all the parts before assembly, had bike all put together except for the right rear fender. Found it badly damaged. Had dents and was badly twisted. Went ahead and straightened it the best I could, and installed it on bike. Beings I had about a hr in assembly time, I didn't feel like I wanted to take it all apart to return it. Nice bike other than the damaged fender.

I've owned better Schwinns.

The box it came in was too flimzy for the weight. There was minimal damage, probably due to the box. The tricycle needs fine tuning when it is finally totally assembled. The rear fenders should be done away with as anyone with short fingers will not be able to install them. The handlebar bolt is too short, the seat needs to be tightened, the brakes, of course, don't work well, but then hand brakes never have. The owner's manual shows how the rear axle frame is to be attached. There are several ways that can be accomplished to look like the drawing. However, one needs to make sure the basket attaching hardware is on top. I didn't and had to start all over. I was hoping Schwinn had gone back to excellent quality like in the 40's, but we are beyond that, I guess.

Adult Trike - Great quality

This adult trike is excellent quality at a good price form Walmart. Shipping time was relatively short. Packaging was very good with no parts damaged. The only challenge was assembly. This trike was not easy to put together. I have good skills with tools but assembly took over an hour and required precise following of instructions. I am very satisfied with the product.
