Great Product, Easy Assembly

This is the easiest two story playhouse that I have built. Many of the pieces were pre-assembled (i.e. walls and roof sections). You do have to be careful not to split the wood when using the wood screws, but just keep a pilot bit handy and don't force it. My kid loves it and it seems to be sturdy. Total build time with three people was 8 hours...(the older versions took twice that long). For just under $1000 this is the way to go.

We love this swing set! We use it for five kids daily and have no problems. The instructions were well labeled and very easy to follow. We sorted all ofthe pieces before construction which was time consuming but made putting it together much easier. We had a small issue with the bolt we were instructed to use when attaching the swing beam to the clubhouse. My husband was able to modify the design and it is just fine.

Be prepared!

It is a nice swing set and the kids love it, but it is a pain to put together. Predrill it will save you a lot of headaches later on. The directions can get very confusing at times and the mount for the main swing set beam could be attached better. We ended up getting our own bolts and a metal plate to make it sturdy.. The wood likes to split especially when you use the lag screws. Again make sure you Predrill. All in all it's a nice swing set but be prepared to have a bottle of Motrin handy.

Beautiful, stylish, sturdy, fun Swingset!

We have searched many stores and websites and felt that this was the best Swingset for the money. It is absolutely beautiful in our backyard, is extremely stylish and adds to any backyard, the boards are light in weight but once put together is very sturdy. It held my 200lb husband while putting the top fort together. My daughter loves to serve people from inside the house part while her friends sit on the super adorable benches. The rock climbing wall is a great challenge and the ladder is an easier way to get up to the higher fort. Hours of fun sliding down the 10 ft wavy ladder! We love it! As for assembly, my husband was not looking forward to putting this together. It took about 2 hours to organize all of the pieces into piles and assort all of the bolts. This helped and is recommended before hand. We built part of it in the garage and then moved it to the backyard. My husband who isn't super handy and my dad who is very handy worked on this for about three days. Also, make sure you have all of the tools required and pre drill all holes so the wood doesn't split. Make sure you do not tighten items too tight or you will be redoing certain parts. You also need a level to properly make sure the Swingset is level. We used pavers under some parts until level and then used play mulch and can't even see the pavers now! I am going to make sure I use a sealer this month to lock in the color so it doesn't rot or fade. Neighbors of ours didn't and it looks a tad dingy. Besides the long hours and lots of patience I think that it is a well built beautiful set that will last a long time and ensure loads of fun time outside.

My Build Experience

Picked up on a Saturday afternoon, found the instructions and assembled the ladder and rock climbing wall before dark. Sunday - 4 people (one reading the instructions and finding hardware, one finding the wood parts from the 3 boxes, two putting it all together) took us all day, 9am- 6pm. Then on Monday installed ground stakes. We were missing one bolt (Home Depot) for one seat, and also changed how the ground stakes are attached to the swingset, we used bolts w/ washers and a lock nut instead of the self-tapping screws for a more secure connection. We did also add a 8' 1x4 cedar (Home Depot) cut in half to reinforce the floor on the upper level, under the covered roof just for a little better feel to how strong the floor was. Overall - We (and the kids) are happy!!! Thank you!!

Excellent Set, Worried about Longevity...

1. Unboxing, Organization Box 2 had our assembly instructions. Each box also has a packing sheet with each board in the box. If you have enough room, organize your working space grouping the pieces by box so you can refer to those packing sheets. We didn't realize this when we organized our pieces and ended up spending a lot of time trying to find the pieces we want. Use a 6-foot table for hardware organization and tool storage. You'll thank me later. Be sure to grab the tools they recommend up front along with a set of sockets and wrenches. You won't need them often, but having them handy when needed is good. Most of the screws and bolts use TORX 30 or 40. They provide you drill bits for each which work great, but the hand crank tools will strip by the end. Be prepared for this. A drill is necessary with a good assortment of drill bits. I also used an impact wrench, it had its ups and downs (see 3 below). 2. Assembly The instructions include bare minimum information. Keep a close eye on the hardware you're using. You'll be using a specific kind of Lag Screw for 10 pages, and then all of a sudden it'll ask you to use a bit longer- or shorter- lag screw. There are many pieces that need to be placed in a very specific way, and you only have the illustration to show you exactly how you need to place it. I often found myself going to the next step to see how I should position the piece I needed, rather than looking at the current step (which is often illustrated in a strange way). I'm a smart, capable person. Myself, my father and a good friend built this in about 18 hours. We could have saved some time by building it out on the lawn from the start, but it was done partially in a garage and then carried to its location as to keep it a secret. Allow yourself plenty of time for not only assembly, but also for leveling of the surface. We spent at least 90 minutes leveling the surface of the ground to make sure everything was just about right. Be prepared to use additional wood for both the rock wall and ladder, as we had to add wood underneath them so that it was touching the ground. I used the 2" lag screws (instead of the 1.5 inch) to secure the set to the ground anchors. We ended up being 3 short when building the over-engineered seating area, so I substitued the 1.5 inch lag screws there. 3. Quality The wood is extremely soft. My impact driver has always treated me well with driving in screws, but the hammer action on the impact split the wood in this set almost every time I had to drive in a lag screw. I worry about the soft wood over the years. All put together, this set is very strong. we had about 10 kids jungling all over this set over the weekend and it didn't miss a beat, but individually, the pieces were soft and easily crack when assembling. You could drive a screw through the wood quite easily when not paying attention. There were some places that were terribly over engineered (like the seating area), but then other places (arguably more important areas) that were under engineered, like the second level flooring. The support beams, for example- had no structural support until we added the roofing structure. The seating area could easily support a 200lbs adult, while the second level floor was barely engineered to handle our 170lbs adult that assembled the upper level fort area. I wouldn't recommend anyone heavier on the second level for this reason. CAUTION: The E support beams that you use for the first level fort are easily the MOST IMPORTANT pieces of the entire kit. Pre drill, pre drill, pre drill. Not only for the E support beams, but also for anything else that requires the lag screws. Even if the board is already pre-drilled to accept the lag screw, RE PRE DRILL IT ANYWAY. Use a driver bit that is big enough where just the threads of the lag bolts are touching and not expanding the wood. I had to order 4 replacement boards. We cracked 8 in total, but the four replacement ones were the worst. Of those 4, we cracked 2 even though we predrilled. Go slow with those lag screws. Drive them slowly, then finish by hand. The door locking mechanism snapped the first day of use- a prime example of under-engineering. I gave this set four stars because: I received my replacement parts 3 days after ordering them. Their estimate was 10-12 days, they were at my doorstep in 3. For the price tag, you get a lot of swingset. The quality could be better, but this isn't a $4,000 set, so I can't dock too many stars off. At the end of the day it is safe enough for my child, but not safe enough for anyone over 175lbs to finish the upper level. The second level floor is just not engineered enough to handle the weight of anyone heavier. Keep this in mind if you are. Perhaps some 2x4s on top of the floor might help, but like most, I don't just have random long 2x4s sitting around waiting for me to use. Overall happy with it, but not perfect.

very sturdy

I have a 1 year old and some teenagers, lots of nieces and nephews. This swing set is great for all, strong enough for the teenagers to assist the younger ones. Lots of fun, they love it. Just remember you need to pre-drill the holes for the pointed screws or the wood will split (should be mentioned on the instruction book). But we figured it out and it looks great. My teenage kids and myself built it, not difficult at all, just took some organization and patience.

A lot of swing set for the price!

I purchased this swing set after reading the reviews. The most helpful review was written 5/19/14 by Nick J G, Wisconsin, USA. I can't thank Mr Nick J G enough!! Read his review!!! I am adding on to his review with what my husband and I discovered while assembling the set. It took us 18 hours. 1. Unboxing, Organization I unboxed all the pieces first and checked them off to make sure I wasn't missing anything. It would have saved me time if I had laid out the pieces in alphabetical order! Definitely benefitted from the 6 ' table!! It rained on day 2 & 3 of our assembly so I was glad to have the table under cover. 2. Assembly As Mr. Nick said the directions are minimal at best. Good luck with them. Most important when assembling the fort is that there are three panels with 2 holes in the middle of them. These three panels need to be next to each other. The seats will be attached to them. After the bottom of the fort is put together put the seats together and attach them to the panels before attaching the "tables" in front of the seats. We followed the directions and attached the "tables" first then had to work under the "tables" to attach the seats. Very difficult and totally wrong sequence! We used 2 cordless drills but 3 would have worked even better so as to not have to keep changing bits. We also were skeptical of the bolts suggested to attach the swing beam to the fort, so my husband devised a better solution. I looked at each page of the directions, gathered all the necessary pieces and hardware (which I put in small tupperware dishes) for each step, then helped my husband put that step together. We built a floor for the inside of the fort using 2x2s and a piece of birch so that the inside of the hut would not get all muddy. I used a piece of cardboard to make a template. I also bought toddler swings and will save the others for later. 3. Quality The wood is soft and splits easily so go slow with the drill or pre-drill every hole again even though it is already predrilled. We did not have to replace any of the boards and were not missing any parts initially. The door hinge and door handle are made of plastic so we bought alternatives for those pieces. This swing set is well worth the price and probably would not take as long if I were to help put another one together.
