Frustrated assembler
1 out of 5 stars review

Wish I could give it ZERO stars.

The shelf brackets will not lock into the slots in the legs making it difficult to assemble. Should have taken less than 30 minutes but took over 3 hours because when you attempted to put a bracket into the leg slots the previous bracket you assembled popped out. Basically, you need about 8 people to hold things together while assembling. Haven't attempted moving it yet, that will likely be the next challenge. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY...JUNK, JUNK, JUNK. I really expected better from Sam's Club

Just want we wanted

I bought these on a member only sale so the price was a bit less than the every day price and that is part of why I am happy with the purchase. Some of the reviews mentioned difficulty in putting together but we had no problems and used a rubber mallet like the picture showed. We made them into two shelves and are happy with them for garage storage but they would work great in a utility room too. I like the material that the shelves are made out of and I feel the shelves are study but I would urge folks to anchor to the wall to prevent injury.

How about no....

I've given up trying to assemble both upper and lower posts together... they will not all align and lock and the metal is very flimsy. I've hurt myself and bent the metal trying to use my rubber mallet to fit everything in place. Its very poor metal engineering in assemblage. BUYER BEWARE!!!! These 5 star reviews are probably fake to prevent the rating to fall below 4 stars.

Not as described/pictured; don't buy at full price

Top & bottom uprights do NOT interlock as pictured; all 8 pieces are identical & merely rest on top of each other. One shelf/bracket set must be used to hold them together; should have couplings instead for stability. Difficult to assemble top & bottom by yourself, but can be done. Also, not "hidden slot-post design" as stated in ad copy. No 8 plastic end caps as stated in instructions, either. Bought 2 units at $44.95 (each) one-day sale price; arrived by FedEx undamaged

Poor quality, but still usable

I bought 2 racks a month and a half ago online and picked them up in the club, assembled them the following day. Comparing to my older racks from Sams these two are made of thinner steel, which is never good for the end user. There are 2 design changes implemented in these racks: 1) The rivets in the beams have a very loose fit to the key-slots in the posts. Now you don't have to use a hammer for assembly and assembled product is not secure until loaded. This results in a difficult assembly process. 2) The upper posts do not rest on top end of the lower ones, instead they sit on a stamped shoulder at the top of the lower posts. Considering how loose the whole assembly is, this is not the best way to support the load from the top shelves. I did most of the assembly by myself, my wife just helped me to put the upper frame on top of the lower one. I did use a few C-clamps in the process to secure already assembled joints. Once loaded the rack becomes more stable and it will support a considerable load, but maybe not the full advertised 600 lb per shelf. With all the drawbacks this was the best shelf I was able to find at the stores. I do not know where are we going as a society, in a few years all shelves may be made out of plastic or cardboard or eliminated completely in favor of computer storage. Right now I would happily pay a little more to get the following: 1. Solid (not 2 pc) posts 2. Thicker and stronger metal 3. Tight fit rivets like in prior years 4. Thicker and stronger decking, 3/4" plywood sounds good Unfortunately this is what I, the customer want. But manufacturer will only do what is specified by the purchaser (read Sams). It appears Sams has other priorities.

good price, flawed design

The size is exactly what I needed, and the height and 6 shelves was better than I was expecting to find. The down side is that the sizing is off between the pins on the shelves and the thicknesss of the frames, and the. shelves will not stay in place during assembly.

Do Not Buy!

This shelf is unsafe, unstable, and could not hold 500lbs let alone the 3,600 it is rated for. If you have purchased any other Member’s Mark shelves that you were satisfied with, this is not like the other ones at all. The pieces bent the whole time assembling it .

Not made like they used to be

I'd purchased 8 of these shelves over the years for use in my garage and for my wife's pottery business storage room. I was impressed with how much they could be loaded, and even after assembling/disassembling many times the connections were very strong and tight (I still need a rubber mallet to knock the crossmembers loose during disassembly and then to reconnect them). I recently wanted an additional unit for my garage, and after putting it together today I see it's nowhere near the quality it was in the past. The first clue was when I picked up the box - the weight was far less than before. The metal framing is now actually quite flimsy, far thinner than before, and the connections very loose. No rubber mallet needed for this one... Assembly was a bit of a pain because of the loose connections, and I ended up using clamps to help hold the parts in place. Repositioning the shelf after I put it together knocked many of the crossmembers loose, even with the shelves on it. That being said, once assembled and in place, it seems to be adequate for what I needed. I would not likely purchase it again, however.

Save your money

After looking at the display I bought this unit. Got it home and started to assemble only to find out once put the brackets in the corner pieces they’re not very secure. Once I got to shelves in, thinking this would make it more sturdy , it didn’t help. The unit is so wobbly that I decided to just take it back.

Total cow pie. So mad I wasted my time.

We have bought many of these over the last few years and been very pleased. This latest version is beyond worthless. As others have said, the rivets are so loose in the holes it's like setting up domino's and holding your breath but nothing you do will allow these to be usable unless you want to duct tape the heck out of it. Waste of time.
