a nice quiet dehumidifier

Was using like a 10 year old, 40 pint square metal dehumidifier that rattled and never got the unfinished basement (around 1300 square feet) below 75%. We live in a very damp area also. This one (50 pint) is now set for 60% and is running on the low fan speed and my cheap humidity gauge says it's 58% in the basement. It sits about 20' away and seems quiet enough to me. From the specs, it would appear it uses 4.3 amps versus the old one using 7+. Basically half price electricity and since the unit will run 24/7 during the summer, that could be significant savings. Ours uses a garden hose draining into the sump pump well. Straightforward connection right out of the box.

Don't buy this dehumidifier

Bought the same dehumidifier after first one died in two years. The second one last only one year and 7 months. Fortunately I bought the extended warranty for the second one. I am buying another one with different brand with 4 years extended warranty this time.

So far, so good

I bought this model after reading several hundred reviews of this one and many others. It seems like most of the dehumidifiers out there are junk and barely lasted several weeks, let alone years like they should. Thank you to the people who took the time to review and post. When you spend around $200, that item shouldn't die shortly after the purchase. At least this one had better reviews than most others and it carried a brand name, not that that means too much these days. The standard warranty was also an issue and since it's easy to return stuff to Wal-mart, I chose to buy from them instead of Amazon. I read of people having issues returning items like this after the first 30 days. I picked the free shipping option and received it a day and a half after I ordered it, instead of the advertised 7-10 days. I plugged it in and let it run in the basement constantly for 3 days as stated in the instructions. Then I set 45% humidity on the gauge and it's been working ever since. We ran our old one year round for over 20 years so I anticipate doing the same with this one. I hooked up the hose and ran it directly to the sump pit so I don't have to worry about emptying the bucket. So far, so good. It's been working as advertised for 3 weeks or so. If that changes, I will mention it. They should send out a 1 year reminder on these reviews so we can update how things are going 1 year later and beyond. I expect this item to last at least 10 years when properly taken care of.

Not in season, but I needed this now.

I bought this dehumidifier because my previous one, which was a Frigidaire 45 pint, died. I looked around and there were very few dehumidifiers in any store (home improvement or Walmart) at this time of year (October) because everyone is switching over to heating and selling humidifiers. Since I use one in my basement year round, Walmart.com came through with a nice selection and reasonable prices. This one seemed to have a lot of good reviews. It arrived in about 5 days after I ordered it. I hooked it up and it runs like a champ! I cut a piece off an old hose to use the continuous drain. No leaks, no problems. I was without a humidifier for about 2 weeks and now that my new one is running the basement has gotten drier again. This model is also Energy Star rated, so this was a plus.

Great unit...

Very happy with this unit. It replaced a 70 pint unit (different brand) that went on recall. This unit is amazing for our 1700 sf basement. We don't have a ton of moisture, but even so this unit works like a champ. I love the fact that intake is the front (my other was on the back so you really didn't want to put it up against a wall), and the fan blows out the top - provides a natural circular motion/movement of the room's air. We have it on direct drain so I can't comment on the bucket. The only downside is the filter is located inside above the bucket, therefore bucket removal to access the filter for cleaning. But, that's not a big deal since that only happens occasionally. Satisfied customer.

Have owned the unit one month, installed in open basement of a 2700 sq ft house, located in the North East. Unit is running and maintaining a 50% humidity level. I have my connected to a hose that drains outside.

Quiet, efficient, user friendly dehumidifier

This unit replaced a recalled Frigidaire dehumidifier that had performed well. It did not disappoint. Sleek, quiet & user friendly, it is on wheels & moves easily with a recessed handle to assist. Bucket empties easily & unit comes with reusable filter. Shipping by Walmart.com was super fast. Online ordering was flawless. Price was very competitive.

Good product with one minor drawback

We purchased this dehumidifier for our daughter. She was having problems with too much moisture in her home. It was to the point where water was actually dripping from the vents and there were places where dangerous black mold was forming. She set up this dehumidifier in her lower level utility room (has a split-level home). Within 12 hours, the bucket was full. It has been drying up the air very well. Their old unit was so loud, they had to turn it off to watch TV; this unit is much quieter. She is very happy with it with the exception that the bucket is somewhat unwieldy when it is full (she has no drain in the are so is unable to hook up a hose to the unit so she wouldn't have to empty it). She definitely recommends this product.

The Right Choice

I've had the dehumidifier for a week and it is working great! Just purchased an older bi level home that is finished on both levels and has electric heat. Not much for air flow that one would have with a gas furnace so it kind of gives the home a bit of a damp feeling along with a cooler temperature. After researching many other brands I chose this machine because it was an Energy Star, has a washable filter (rather than having to buy replacement filter) and it had many of the other features I was looking for. The water bucket is easy to remove when full. It's not whisper quiet but it's not irritatingly noisy either. The price was decent and I'm just happy that it is performing as it is described to do. I currently have it placed in the middle of the family room where it is keeping the entire lower level at a drier and warmer climate.

Was what we were looking for

We were looking for a dehumidifier for our 1800 sq/ft crawl space to help mitigate the moisture seeping in from the ground. This dehumidifier fit the bill and for a very competitive price. The reason I am giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is because it was a little bit tricky to get the drainage going where it would drain out of the hose we attached vs. the bucket reservoir and it took a couple tries to get it set right. However, once we got it set up it got the humidity down from 85% to 60% overnight. The auto-stop function when the bucket is full was also nice and functions really well. Haven't had it long enough to verify how easy it is to clean the filter, etc. but overall pleased with the purchase.
