Works Well

This is the third Frigidaire dehumidifier I've bought and I'm totally pleased with all three. It does exactly what it's supposed to do. The fan is loud on high and OK on low. You wouldn't want the machine in the same room where you are watching TV, visiting/talking, or trying to relax. The humidistat is accurate and turns the machine on and off per your setting. Like all dehumidifiers, this unit puts out a lot of heat as it dehumidifies the air. It will considerably raise the temp of the room in which it operates. In humid areas, like NC, you will need to empty the condensate bucket at least once a day and more if it runs full-time. Compared to other brands the machine is priced competitively. That made it all the more attractive to me. Suggestion: Buy the largest capacity machine you can. It will get the job done faster and shut off instead of running longer periods of time. BTW, if you are running window air cond units, which don't tend to dehumidify well, run this with them and you'll have nice dry, cool air.

makes a lot of water

I have it hooked to a hose to run in a damp basement. Like water on the floor damp. It dried it up in 3 days and now cycles on and off to keep it at 45%, light weight and quieter than some dehumidifiers I have owned. Looks like I bought a real workhorse

Took care of our problem

We heat the glass patio room with a natural gas heater which causes heavy condensation on the glass and the water ran down to the floor. Usually had to shut the room off during the cold days because of this the water problem, but this machine has been the perfect answer and has eliminated the problem completely. Wish I had done it long before now.

Works great!

I've had it for over a month and am completely satisfied. I bought this dehumidifier from Walmart to replace a 6-yr old 25-pint Frigidaire that ran but quit dehumidifying. I searched the various review sites on the internet, and it appeared that Frigidaire was one of the most reliable. This new 50-pint is only a little heavier than my old 25-pint one. The new one is much quieter than the old one. I set the fan speed for Low, which just creates a gentle breeze in the basement and is very quiet for a running fan. It's hard to tell whether the compressor is running or not because it hardly adds any noise. I run mine in automatic mode at a humidity setting of 45%. The fan does run continuously and does not turn off when the humidity reaches 45%. (That's the same way my window air conditioners work.) Site-to-store worked great. Even though I could get free shipping to my home, I didn't want it getting tossed around by a package delivery service.

It works even better than we'd hoped!

This unit is small enough not to get in the way, as attractive as dehumidifiers get, extremely effective and easy to use. It's hard to roll on the rollers without it tipping over (at least for me, and granted, I'm not very coordinated and was rolling it on thick carpet) so I'd recommend rolling it empty. It took the first basement room I put it in from 69% humidity to 49% in a day --- according to the indoor/outdoor thermometer thing we have set up down there. It's controlling the humidity in a fairly large space filled with furniture and totes very well, from day 1. An added benefit is that it wasn't included in that massive recall that was announced a few days after we got it! I researched dehumidifiers thoroughly before purchasing, considering all the aspects. The reviews did say that it was noisy, but there are 2 speeds and if you need to be in the area, running it on Low greatly reduces that problem. And, it's white noise, not like it's clanking or whistling!

Best Value, Highest Rated Energy Star Dehumidifier

I did quite a bit of research before settling on this particular unit. The Frigidaire ENERGY STAR 50-Pint Dehumidifier, FAD504DWD had the best reviews overall in the $200 - $250 price range. My basement is not very big, but I wanted a unit that wouldn't fill up too fast, was easy to use, didn't create a huge electric bill and would eliminate any dampness/odor in the basement. I ordered this unit on a Thursday and received it via FedEx on Saturday. Under promise and over deliver. Excellent - very prompt. I have opted not to use the hose attachment, so I am not sure how well that works. We empty the unit 1x per day. It isn't too loud, it's not too heavy and the bucket is pretty easy to remove and empty and put back in place. It beeps if something isn't right and it also has an auto shutoff. Easy to use! - - This says a lot coming from me! I could not find this unit in store anywhere and when looking online, this was the best price. Highly recommend.

Excellent. Does exactly what I needed!

This works perfectly. My apartment was was extremely humid until I got this. After 2 days of de-humidifying the atmosphere in my apartment has completely changed. It turns itself on only once in a while now for short periods of time when the humidity rises. I recommend setting it for 60% - seems to be perfect. Caution: When I first turned it on I set it to "factory" setting which just runs 24/7 (says to do this in the directions for the first time you set it up). I left it in that mode too long and my apartment got WAY too dry. It felt like my skin was drying up, and was very uncomfortable. I turned it off for a day or two and let my apartment settle back to a more humid environment. I know have it turned on and set to 60%, and it works wonderfully. I recommend only using the "factory" setting until you have to empty it out one time. Then set it for 60%. It was worse being too dry than too humid, so better to slowly de-humidify instead of sucking up all the moisture all at once - it was almost unbearable when too dry.

A good product for the basement

This dehumidifier works very well. It's a tad on the noisy side, but as long as you're not sleeping next to it. . . . The controls are easy to understand and operate. The collection tub was easy to remove and replace. I appreciate the fact that the humidity level desired was easily adjustable in actual percentage numbers, not simply "high" or "low" on a spectrum. The unit is heavy, but any dehumidifier that works well is going to be. Wal-Mart's delivery via FedEx Ground was faster than expected, and delivered right to my front porch. All in all, a good purchase and a good experience.

Gets the job done

Have had this product for 2 weeks, so far it works fine. Easy to set up. Does not come with a hose for the automatic emptying, so while it does work out of the box, to use it to its' fullest potential you have to buy the hose. The collecting bucket is hard to empty. These things should be made with a pour spout. It is messy to empty, so pouring the water into a large laundry tub is best. We're happy with the function. Basement does not have a musty damp odor. Hope that we will have it for several years like the last one. Have to commend Wal-Mart for the ease of the purchasing and delivery service. Ordered online, could check out as a guest (don't have to set up an account). Less than 24 hours later delivered to the door. Great experience and will do it again.

Mixed results so far

Appears to be well made. Reasonably quiet. Connecting a hose for continuous draining is simple and effective. On the downside, it doesn't seem to be able to get my basement below 50% RH and this isn't the damp time of year. Based on the selection guides, this unit should be overkill for my 900 sq. ft. reasonably dry basement. I never get standing water or damp walls, but I do get a musty smell without a dehumidifier. I've had the unit for over 2 weeks now. It is running continuously. It briefly got the RH to 45%, but it's back up to 50% now. That's good enough, but it isn't as good as I expected.
