Problems from delivery to assembly

The grill came damaged. Replacement part took about two weeks so that I could finish assembly. Once assembled, I tested the gas line and saw a leak. I requested a replacement gas line. When it arrived, that one leaked worse. I requested another gas line that finally worked.

Disappointing

As others have described, the grill is a disappointment. The propane side works well and is large enough to cook 12 of those premade frozen hamburger patties at one time. It can reach rather high temperatures once warmed up and all burners on high (over 600 degrees). The pellet side, that is where the disappointment begins and grows. The unit I received has an issue with the electronic control. The smoke setting (which should be around 170 degrees) results with a stable temperature of around 290 degrees. Far too high to produce much smoke and too high for a low and slow smoke of any meat. When set at 180 degrees, the temperature control actually improves slightly, and stabilizes at around 230 degree. Still off by 50 degree, but less than when set to "smoke" which was off by over 100 degrees. When I took it one step further, and set it to the 225 degree setting, the temperature actually remained close to its appropriate temperature, fluctuating between 220 and 230, but predominantly it stayed around the set temperature of 225. As I progressed through the rest of the preset temperature settings, they all seemed to keep the approximate temperature close to the setting. But if you are hoping to use this as anything but a wood fired grill, you will be disappointed and I recommend you go elsewhere. It will NOT work as a smoker... I dont know if I received one with a faulty electronic temperature control or not... but when I contacted customer service, as listed in the instructions, I had my concerns dismissed and was simply sent the initial firing instructions, as though I could not read the manual. This leads me to believe this is a common problem and they would rather brush you off that fix it. I plan on sending one last message to the customer service folks, and if they fail to address it, it will be sent back to the store and returned... the first grill, or smoker, or anything that I have needed to over all my years with Sam's. Beware.... and I recommend to stay away from this one. It looks great, it could be awesome... it just isn't and will leave you very disappointed.

flawed but okay

I've owned this grill for over a year and use it about twice a week. I got mine on sale for $400 and I'd say it's probably worth it at the price I payed, but not at the $600. You'd be better off getting a separate propane and pellet at MSRP price point. The good: Gets very hot on the propane side, and reasonably even for price point Pellet side holds temp well once it stabilizes (after an hour or so), overall not bad entry level smoker. Grates are good quality, I use this throughout snowy winter and they're holding up well. The flaws: Bottom tray on propane side is very shallow, so drippings do not flow to drip pan well, end up scraping a lot of crusted on char every month from the bottom. This is actually a big design flaw as it sets up grease pooling which can lead to flares and stuff. Pellet hopper has a tendency to “tunnel” and can stop feeding, so have to make sure you stir up pellets every 4ish hours. So can't leave for the day and come back, but don't have to “babysit.” Pellet side is not well sealed, a lot of smoke and air escapes, would be better if it were more sealed and had a smoke stack like some other pellet grills. So less smoke flavor and more temp swings compared to abetter pellet grills, but not horrible, still does the job. You end up sacrificing cooking space on both sides for to make it a hybrid. Better to go separate.
