2017 taxes

In general, the product is good. Had 2 review problems: K-1 section: Had to delete accounts many times to get past reviews. This was more on my end deleting a K-1 no longer need from previous years. I did find one bug - with child interest on account. Had to enter 0 in section a and b to get past review for efile. Saw this bug online with other users. I was eventually able to fix both errors by trial and error.

reliable, but only if the information is

Something I encounted this year is that I used TT2016 to compute an ESTIMATED tax for my mom for 2017 in order to figure out some amount of withholding to take on her income. Unfortunately, TT2017 imported all that thinking it was factual and made computations on 2017 based on this information. Once done, it could not be undone. I had a lot of extra work to do for 2017 to deal with this problem.

Easy to use

I used to pay a tax preparer to do my taxes, but I gave him all the information and he filled in the blanks. Now for much less money, I have been doing it myself for about 10 years. I love looking to see that I am in the green area for likelihood of an audit.

I had two problems

1) I filed Electronic but the first time I was rejected because I did not include the ID number that was sent to me by IRS in the mail. No where in your software was this asked for. After being rejected I had to go to the 1940 work sheet and enter it there. Then I refiled and it was accepted. 2) In order to file Electronic I had to buy Turbo Tax twice/ First I bought it from Amazon. Then when filing it asked me for my TT Confirmation # which was not given me by Amazon. So it cost me another $24.95 to file

Good software, poor connectivity

I was generally happy with tax prep process. Software was easy to use. However, I was unable to transmit state return because secure system used for payment was down. The only alternative option offered...M-F business hours (I completed tax return over the weekend). If secure site is unreliable, software should allow me to transmit state return and pay later or Intuit should offer better customer service hours.

2017 TAXES

Software needs more immediate fixes to known glitches. Ability of tech support to share desktop and guide me to correct 1st problem very quickly was impressive. Smart Check is a good idea in principle but should not take longer to complete than the taxes themselves. glitches in inaccessible phantom entries that could not be cleared very frustrating. Electronic transmission extremely fast. I submitted my returns to TurboTax at 1 minute to 6 and had an acceptance from the IRS [via TT] at 6:40 the same night.

Money Hungry Company

Bought TurboTax Premier from Costco for not a terrible price, after trying to file I find out there is an additional charge to E FILE my state return. After baiting with the whole "1 free state return" they find another way to charge. Meanwhile my girlfriend filed on the website entirely free, including state. Kind of crazy how you want to charge more on the people who already payed for the product.

Medical Entries a Shortcoming

I've used Turbotax Premium for many years. It has never failed me. This year, for the first time, I had a sufficient number of medical expenses to make it worth my time to include for the added deductions. I had all of my expenses ready to enter and discovered that the ENTRY BOXES for Medical Expenses were not set-up like many of the other ENTRY BOXES where you would Double-Click for detailed entries. Why? Unless I did something wrong, this is a serious deficiency.

Only Just Adequate

Dissappointed. It allowed a double entry of a "partner" that I caught but it did not. It SHOULD have. Too many areas are confusing. It requires data in detail that it does not file. THE "PARTNERS" IRA ROLLOVER SECTION DID NOT WORK AT ALL, I had several partners and it would never hook up. It did not say where the error was, nor could a consultant. This resulted in a LOT of extra work!!!!!

Not so helpful help line

I got a 480.6C form for investments inside my 401K. This form was no where to be found in my Premier Edition of TT. I called the help line only to be on hold for 15-minutes with no recording or anything saying how much longer so I hung up. The on line help was just as bad. All it does is match your question to similar questions/answers from previous. Nothing presented to me matched my situation. I Googled the answer on my own. TT was no help at all.
