Good but program crashes unexpectedly

Always an easy way to do the tax returns, but this is the first time the program has repeatedly crashed at random points throughout the process. Not up to the usual Turbotax standards, but otherwise as easy to use as always. I'll keep using Turbotax but would like Intuit to take another look at their software quality.

Fix MLP Sales Issues - Double Counting Profit/Loss

There are many discussions and debates on the TT forums on how to accurately enter MLP sales which have K-1 and 1099-B data. The Step-by-Step instructions need to use the same instructions as shown on the K-P worksheet. A simplified example for a long term sale of a PTP MLP held in a brokerage account would also be helpful.

Good and Bad

I have a complicated return. Have been doing my own return for a very long time (since graduated from college almost 33 years ago). Turbo Tax has been better most of the time than other software - do not like all the upsales - nor do I like the State e-file price - way too expensive. I have a complicated return - and often when the questions get very tricky - that is when Turbo Tax doesn't help very much. Most people don't have that, so I understand it isn't cost effective. Just be prepared that Turbo Tax may not answer all your tax questions - just 99% of them.

YEARS of success - little glitch for 2017

Full-time student son earned >$30,000 in paid internship. Filed return. My return, E-filed AFTER his, was rejected because "a dependent on your return has already been claimed." Turbotax did not offer the possibility that the rejection was a "standard procedure." Instead, an email conveyed that Turbotax would help me fix my error. I ultimately checked 1040 Instructions, finding that what I had done was perfectly fine. Clearly, I just couldn't e-file, but this was not the message that was conveyed to me.

Not perfect

1. I have mutual fund investments that TT can transfer directly from my broker (Vanguard). This year, TT missed a number of mutua funds, I had to enter the data by hand. Time consuming and added risk of mistakes. 2. Information about 1099DIV could be richer. How for example, does one treat income in a mutual fund from a foreign country. You have a choice of "Foreign Income" and "QDI eligible foreign income." TT does not explain this distinction and which number to use. 3. Quite irritating is that when you backtrack during data entry and answering Y/N questions at a specifi tax topic, your answers are erased. TT should immediately save whatever I put in. Otherwise, when you revisit you may not remember what you previously had put or answered. This problem has existed all along and I believe I made the same observation last year but no action by TT. 4. I have more comments but lost my earlier input by backtracking for a minute. Immediately my comments had disappeared.

great program

I have used TurboTax for many years, with good results. Now we are retired with no more investment income or rental properties. The last 2 years our situation has resulted in our taking the standard deduction. I'm sorry to have to stop using TurboTax Premiere, but it just makes sense to use your standard free option from here on out... Thanks for all the years you made sense of the tax filing process for us!!

Federal instructions rock

The federal instructions and questions are admirable. You cover all my areas. However the state instructions failed to work out all the conversions of federal taxable income to state taxable income. I had to refer to the state instructions at the dept. of revenue site to convert federal medical deduction to state. This makes me wonder what else You missed. PLEASE work on the state forms before you release TTfor2018.

Smooth Sailing

After many years away from Turbo Tax I made the switch back when the competing software failed when importing my 1099s. Anyone who has investment accounts and does even a modest amount of trading the 1099 import is a key. The Turbo Tax software is a little bit smoother when it comes to the interview process when compared to Tax Cut. I would have liked the state e-filing to be included. The import from Tax Cut didn't work for me, but starting fresh was easy enough. I plan to continue to use Turbo Tax in the future now that I've switched back.

Incredibly difficult to resolve verification code

It is 2/18/18. and certainly Quicken has had enough time to resolve the issue with the IRS optional verification code. We spent hours with an unable to file error for e-file because our W-2 has no verification code. None of the Quicken help results had a working solution. What finally worked was to enter something random (such as the suggested 5 digits, space, 5 digits), then backspace to the beginning, then "continue". Strange, random, and frustrating.

Account login is too complicated

Have used TT for years and like it, but, Logging in to my TurboTax Acct. to make payments or check old returns is way too complicated. Email address doesn't work Have to rest my password more than once. Is it a TT Acct. or an Intuit Acct? Or both? or neither? Seems to change every year.
