Easy to use

I've used TurboTax for over a decade. Now my grown children also use it -- from the simplest needs to those who need to incorporate income and expenses from rental properties and small businesses. Once you use TurboTax once, you understand how to be even more organized for the next time you file your taxes.

Long time user

A good basic tax program. Great that is does the math, tax table look up and e-file's. Will ask for data twice and add together, best to rough out your numbers on a printed out sheet so you know T.T. has the numbers filled out the way you want them. Spend a lot of time scrolling from top of list to bottom to work on next section when doing the interview.

Fails on Windows 10

I have used Turbo Tax for 10+ years. Each year it pulls in information from my past year which saves me a lot of time. I know the program and it saves me a lot of time. This is the first year where Turbo Tax didn't work well. It froze up and self closed dozens of times. Online searches showed lots of issues with Windows 10.

Overall, the question and answer format works. However, each year, in the correction and review section, I get a message that Box 12a cannot be greater than the local distribution. The 1099-R form leaves the local and state distribution boxes blank and only fills in the gross distribution at the top of the form. Issues: First, there is no 12a box on my form; second, the directions are so short and confusing that it takes some experimenting to finally realize that the local and state distribution boxes need to be filled in on the form with the same number as the gross distribution. This could be explained in a much simpler fashion.

Got worst this year for college expenses

TT is not able to account for the tuition expense against QTP 529 plan withdrawal. It tells me my income is too high for tuition credit, but 529 plan does not have income limit. It should just include the information in efile, specifically 1099-Q, 1098-T and Student Info Wks. Since 2013, I have been working with IRS to clear additional tax assessments after efiling via TT. For 2016, I upgraded TT to premier to see if it resolves the issue, but...! For 2017, it got even worst with TT not even allowing me to input 1099-T. After going back and forth couple of times, I found a way (out of the flow of data input) to put in 1099-T. Now, I will have to file a paper copy to include all info to not pay any taxes on 529 plan withdrawal.

Examples not complete

Was shocked to find I owed $2150, which included underpayment for 2016, for State taxes when in prior years I owed little or nothing. Turns out the problem was the type of State pension I checked. The samples under State and Local Governments were not all inclusive, but looked as if they were. So I checked none of above, generating the huge tax.

Great Job Turbotax

I have used turbotax since it was introduced. Over the many years of use I have never had any issues or problem with my taxes. I feel that I have always received the most return that I could get by using turbotax. The features that help you through the process always make me feel confident that all the "I"s are dotted and that no mistakes have been made. When I submit my return I do not worry that I missed something that will come back to bite me. I highly recommend turbotax for the novice to the experienced user. One of the best features is seeing what you entered for each item and comparing it with this years inputs. This help one making sure you are on the correct path and not making any mistakes or missing something. Thanks turbotax

Worked as usual

Long time user; for some reason this years version (Premier now for several years) just didn't seem as user friendly. I didn't seem to be a be able to modify a number I had already put in for Tax preparation. One thing that would be really nice is to tell the filer how much they spent for TurboTax each year.

TurboTax's use of simple questions to guide the tax preparer through the complexities of the tax code is outstanding as is TurboTax's use of the answers to automatically fill out all the required tax forms. The only time that I have to touch a form is to sign the return after TurboTax has printed it. Also, the internet connection to financial institutions is a godsend for reporting stock transactions.

Better Each Year

I have been using TurboTax since 2012 (mostly). It works better each year. I am finally able to do a "back of the envelop" estimate so I know what to expect as a final result. The only thing I do not like is that the refund goes wildly up and down as you enter income, then enter corresponding deductions. They could wait for a section to complete (ex: self employed) before updating the total. Nearly gave my husband a heart attack. (He watched this year :[)))
