Great product

This product is what I expected because it's a Frigidaire. The window installation was easy, I had it operating in less than a hour. The instruction was easy to understand as well as the assembly. The negative part is the drainage which is no big deal it comes with being a portable air conditioner. The air quality is great, I have a three bedroom home with the system in the den the air circulate to my bedroom at the end of the hall. I also have the ceiling fans switched opposite for additional circulation. The features are easy to function and understand, I am please with this product.

Frigidaire Portable A/C Unit

Purchase the Frigidaire 9000 BTU Portable A/C Unit to replace a 10,000 BTU Window Unit designed to fit in a "Slider Type" of window. Due to the fact I just invested a large amount of funds into having all of my windows replaced I didn't want to drill holes in the new window frames to mount the older A/C Unit. With this portable unit I was able to install the panel for the exhaust without drilling holes or using the enclosed metal window security devices by installing a piece of select pine in the window track to allow the slider section of the window to not only hold the exhaust panel but to provide security for the window. The new A/C Unit is being used in a living room area, I find it is providing the required cooling that my 10,000 BTU Unit did. If required I can also roll the Frigidaire Unit into my wife's sewing room which has about the same amount of square feet to provide cooling if she informs me it's to warm or hot. I haven't received my first electrical bill yet to see how much my cost will be, since I also had to replace my dehumidifier in the basement at the same time I installed the portable A/C Unit I figure there will be a noticeable increase even both units are listed as energy efficient. Would suggest this type of A/C Unit for anyone living in an apartment where it might either cause problems or one isn't able to install a window type of A/C Unit or for anyone who would like to have one A/C Unit that can easily be moved from room to room and installed with the minimum of effort as the window panel adjust without any effort.

this item does everything I was told it would do.

this indoor air conditioner is fantastic, it is not as noisy as the window units and it really takes out the humidity! It is pricey, but if it works for 4 or 5 years it is worth the money.

Back for more

I already owned a 12,000 BTU unit I bought from Wal-Mart for our living room, so when our bedroom window unit finally stopped working I decided to replace it with a 9,000 BTU portable unit. Not needing to lug a heavy window unit in and out of the window every year will make a believer out of you. The units function nicely and look very stylish.

worked well so far

The Unit arrived faster than I expected, and works very well. The only hiccup was in getting the exhaust hose coupled up to the window panel. I thought installing the exhaust hose and window panel would be simple, and looking at the individual parts after unpacking it seemed like I had thought correctly. The reality was far different. I couldn't get the connectors that go on the ends of the hose on easily, and ended up breaking one of the plastic locking tabs on the end the hooks into the window panel because of the end on the unit faced a different direction and was causing the hose to shift. I think the design of the exhaust hose system it really bad and would on it's own rate a negative score, but the unit it self would score a perfect five. So I average it down to a straight four. Since the window panel is pretty much a must have for the exhaust system to work a coupling using a more permanent phalange design I think would be better.

I read several reviews on this product before making up my mind and I am very satisfied with my purchase. Set up was very simple and operating this unit is so easy. I work third shift and keep my bedroom closed off during the day and in warmer weather the room got warm and stuffy. This unit runs extreamly quiet and really cools my room. I honestly got more than I expected with this purchase.

Frigidaire 9,00-BTU Portable Air Conditioner FRA093PT1 fit the needs of the situation we needed it to fill. The unit is great at removing the moisture from the room and making the environment comfortable. Having a temperature control makes it easier to adjust the rooms comfort level for an individual. The compressor is nosier then window mounted units but the noise level is acceptable and does not become a problem while on the phone or sleeping...when keeping the unit on the opposite side of room. Setting up the window insert vent for the compressor heat tube is easy but found duct tape helped to make window seal. One drawback was the heat vent tube install setup. It was difficult to attach the vent hose to the unit but duct tape solves the problem. The drainage of condensation was an issue because we could not drain through the window. To over come the problem, we ran an extended plastic tubing to our shower...you could also run the plastic tubing to a bucket. Remember on humid days the buckets fills quickly as the unit does remove moisture from the air exceptionally well...great as de-humidifier. Evaluate your situation and this portable unit may be the right fit...it was for me.

Cools outbuilding well - need better drain info

I bought this system last summer to keep an 400 sq ft outbuilding cool enough to keep our chest freezer and beer brewing / wine storage happy. The building has casement windows, which make a standard window AC unusable. Setting up the exhaust was pretty straightforward, using the supplied window slider kit, attached at the bottom of a 1/2" piece of blueboard which replaces the screen on the casement window. When the compressor runs, the air is cold and easily cools the room. I have to leave a second window cracked open to provide intake air for the system to exhaust. Unlike some other reviewers, I have had no issues with the connecting and disconnecting the exhaust system. My confusion is around the drain. I don't understand why there are two separate drains, and the manual doesn't do a good job explaining it. Although the manual says the upper drain is for the Dry mode, water seems to come out of it during the Cool cycle as well. The drain tube must slope downward - any water held in the tube seems to prevent the compressor from running. The thermostat seems a bit off - after turning on the system, the compressor will start up at the target temperature, but after running awhile the room temperature will creep up above the target by several degrees and I have to decrease the temperature setting below the target temperature in order for the compressor to start.

Noisy

I'm not much of a complainer & grateful to have a AC after someone stole my central ac for the copper but...I purchased the 12,000 BTU exactly like this one but the 9,000 must be the only one available now. My 8,000 btu window unit did a better job than this. It barely keeps the family room cool with other Ac's in the house but my biggest complaint is the noise! have to keep it on high to do any good at all & I have to blast the tv & leave the room when I get a call. I have never had a louder ac unit. I have a cat who bumps the hose off by walking by it, very poor exhaust set up. It is less bother to have a window unit than this portable that has to be at least a foot away from the window with a ugly hose attached to the window that comes loose if you move it a inch. I wouldnt buy another, not worth $500 thats for sure. also be sure to have something to cut the hard plastic insert to fit your window & ear plugs

I hate this air conditioner

Too heavy to move Too difficult to attach the vent tube as needed for cooling Frustrating to set up for cooling Tube always popping out of one connector end or another - needs constant monitoring Tube gets very, very hot, so needs to cool before re-connecting after it pops off Did I mention, frustrating? It cools very well once I've sweated through the set-up, if I've managed to be successful - this year I just gave up in frustration: no sonner do I get one end of the tube connected correctly when the other end pops off!! The tube doesn't simply "screw" on to the connectors as stated in the manual. Big pain in the neck!!!!
