Wonderful oven!

This KitchenAid countertop oven is perfect to use when you don't want to light your stove. It's roomy and heats up quickly. I especially like that it comes with two racks that can be inverted, which gives you several options for positioning the racks. It toasts nicely, bakes, broils, and roasts, and it also has a warm setting. You do need to keep an eye on things, because the convection feature will cook things more quickly than a conventional oven. Sometimes you need to adjust cooking times or temperatures accordingly, so there is a learning curve. But it's a very convenient appliance. I use this oven every day.

Great toaster oven

I purchased this oven around 10 days ago, and I am very happy with the purchase. Previously I owned a couple of entry-level toaster ovens. The KitchenAid is a level above those, not only it looks nice, but also performs very well. In this toaster oven, I can bake small cakes (9"x9" pan), roast veggies, toast bread, etc. Its convection baking distributes the heat evenly. I noticed that results are better if I reduce the temperature when baking (say if my recipe calls for 300F then I use 250F in this oven instead), meaning that probably I am also saving some energy as well.

Excellent quality

I've had many countertop ovens and this is by far the best I've ever had. The knobs, door handle and sturdy and not flimsy at all. The knobs feel strong and easy to turn...also really easy to read unlike many others I've had. I don't need my granny glasses to read. The interior is very roomy and I LOVE the covers over the heating rods so they don't become coated in splattered food. Cleans easily and just does a beautiful job on everything I've cooked in it. Very very pleased with this oven.

Moving on up

Having used a standard toaster (also KitchenAid) for years, I thought having oven space too was important in my next purhcase. However, I realize that I simply "toast" most of the time, so some of the features don't get much use. And with that much space inside, just "toasting" can take an incredibly long amount of time. However, the few times I've used the other options, I've been completely satisfied. A more speedy bake than in my standard oven, and a pretty quick preheat. Not to mention, it looks pretty! : ) One miss element: No way to turn off the timer except by running it out.

A cut above regular toaster ovens

I've used this a few times in the short time I've had it. I'm not quite used to the way it cooks, but I've been able to roast a small hen for the first time in years. (I haven't had an oven for a while.) I have made small pizzas in it and it does a good job. Workmanship is a bit lacking: there is 1/4" gap at the top of the door (right edge), and no gap at the bottom. It appears that the unit is warped. It still functions so I didn't send it back. I burned myself on the curved glass door the first time; easily fixed by purchase of silicone oven mitts. Takes at least ten minutes to preheat. Rack adjustability is a plus; you can turn them over as well as move them higher and lower. No interior light but I just keep a flashlight nearby. All in all a worthy purchase but for workmanship.

Good But Not Great

This review is for two Compact Ovens aka Large Toaster Ovens. We purchased the 1st one with the expectation it would be the same high-quality as full-size KitchenAid appliances. It stopped working after approx. 30 days. We took advantage of KitchenAid's 'no-hassle' 1-year guarantee, though it took another month to receive the 2nd replacement unit. So far, the 2nd Compact Oven is working fine. But the construction quality/finish is poor. Read another reviewer who noted the oven door did not fully close. Yep, we got one of them too. The upper right corner of the door has a 1/16" gap, which is turning the stainless steel finish black. Also see that the control panel (right side w/ 4 knobs) sets uneven against the body of the oven. OK, now to performance. Cooks/works well on bake and broil. Assume temperatures are achieved, since all food is properly cooked. Because of it's size/height of the oven, the toast feature is only fair. Set it at a darker level, or toast twice, and it works fine. We hope this 2nd until will last for a few years.

Looks good, but not a toaster!

We bought this because it looked great and would hold two small pizzas which our grandchildren eat constantly. However, for toasting bread it's slow and uneven. We noted the crumb tray was NOT on the top of the bottom heat coil, which we thought would lead to even toasting. It does not. Toast only works on Dark. Warming food, baking food work fine, although we don't do anything other than warm up left overs so we really can't judge. Again--it looks great! We appreciate the knob having a texture so they can be turned when you're hands have food on them.

turned oven on to verify its operability but not used yet

I have verified that the oven elements work but have not used this oven yet. I am a bit disappointed with the fitment of the door. The door does not fit tightly or evenly, leaving a gap for the heat to escape. The gap ranges from one to two millimeters (1/16 to 1/8 of an inch). The door is riveted in place so no adjustment possible. As the oven will be used infrequently, I will be keeping it. If was to be used regularly, I would return it because of the poorly fitted door.

Does the job

I bout this a few weeks ago and have used it mainly for breakfast items. It's quite slow, and we had to let it burn off the chemical-y smell in the beginning which had some questionable smoke, but aside from that it does what it's supposed to do far! The door wasn't lined up correctly either.

Usefull

I was looking for a replacement for our old toaster oven. We mainly makes toast, I found that this oven has the tendency to make the toast dry and it takes twice as long to toast then our old toaster.. We only eat home made bread. But when I came to cooking other food items such as Quecie and chicken I would not go back to using our regular oven, I found that it cooked each dish evenly. I do like the two racks that are provided giving us enough room for our cooking need.
