For effective laundry, adhere to care instructions, using the hottest safe water for each fabric type. Sort clothes by color and material, and pre-treat any stains by applying detergent directly and lightly rubbing it in, after testing for colorfastness. To ensure proper cleaning, avoid overloading the washer and use the correct amount of detergent based on the load size, soil level, and water hardness, selecting gentle cycles only when recommended. To achieve softer fabrics, always use liquid fabric softener according to the instructions and avoid overfilling your washing machine. Whenever possible, machine-dry your clothes; if line-drying, hang them outdoors. Liquid fabric softener is generally more effective than dryer sheets, and even older fabrics can benefit from its use. If using a touch of Downy detergent, adding extra liquid fabric softener will further enhance softness.
