Pleasantly Surprised...

I gave this to my wife for Christmas, and she and I were both very pleased with the look, sound, and apparent build quality of the guitar. The tuner is actually pretty decent, and the book is really helpful and easy to understand as well. The gig bag leaves a little to be desired - it's about as basic and cheap as it could be (although the zipper works better than my much more expensive bag). That makes sense, though, considering you can easily spend more than the price of this kit on a bag. All in all, it's great! We're really happy...

Amazing for beginners like me

Last time I've played an instrument was in sixth grade, now I am in college and figured I should do a hobby. I decided on learning to play the guitar. I was amazed beautiful this thing is and I learned the basic chords in a few days after so much pain of fretting the strings. I highly recommend buying this as a starter guitar if you're looking to playing an instrument as a hobby.

Nice for the money

At first I did not think Walmart sold guitars. When I found this Kona guitar on their website for under 100 dollars - I automatically thought this has to a kids toy guitar. Looking over the specs and size - it is a full size guitar suitable for first time learners to get in at a budget price. Really nice guitars like Fender, Gibson etc.. would have cost me a arm and leg. If my children played guitar as a passing hobby...I would have been out of a few more hundred dollars and stuck with something i can't use. So for a low investment of about 85 dollars I can't go wrong and I am not out a fortune for another piece of decorative hardware. When I received it the first time - it was missing the tuner so I had to return it and re-order it again. The second time it came - everything was correct and included the guitar, tuner, training book and CD. My kids are happy and I am happy. More important - the sound is quite mellow and good. I would suggest this to anyone just testing the water and trying to keep the cost down.

Great Value

This guitar is fine for someone who wants to start playing, but doesn't really know if they will even have time to learn. Why spend a ton of money on something that you are not really sure you will keep up with. This met all of my expectations and if I can learn and enjoy playing then maybe I'll get an expensive one. For now, this is perfect.

It's a real guitar!

First, I'll preface this by saying that I have played and owned several guitars before. I hadn't played any guitar in over 2 years when I recently got "the bug" again. I wanted something inexpensive, and I chose to order from Walmart for budget reasons. I considered prices, specifications, brands, and reviews of all of the guitars I could find on walmart.com. I wanted a brand that I have some familiarity with (Kona), good reviews, and under $100. I settled on this product and crossed my fingers that this would be a real guitar (not a toy), and that the positive reviews were on track. My package arrived yesterday. I tuned it up, strummed out a couple of quick songs, and then fine tuned. I spent the next few hours playing, and had a blast. It held a tune pretty well for about 3 hours of playing; this is a factor I really appreciate, and one that you don't always find in less expensive instruments. For those who are interested, I found the feel and action similar to entry level guitars from Fender, Takamine, and Ibanez. The tuner is basic, but it works. I have already gotten some value from the book because I'm learning some chord names that I didn't know. The gig bag is thin, but I didn't want or expect much of it. I haven't used the CD, but I'm give a high rating based on the guitar itself.

fun

Overall I was pleased with this package. The only thing I would add is extra strings. Other than that it is good. The Guitar has good sound, I did change the strings to steel/silk as my daughter is a beginner and that is eaiser on the fingers. When it arrives just tune and enjoy.

Husband tried to take it over.

Got this to add to the Margaritaville music room in a vacation rental. Before I could get it to the apt....the hubs took it over. He was buried in the...For Dummies..manual for about 10 minutes..then he tuned it and was plucking something close to..blew out my flipflop...in no time. Sadly I had to strip it away from him.. add it to the decor of the music room for our next vacationing tenants.

Good package - badly made!

According to reviews this looked like a great deal for a 10 year beginner. When it arrived it looked great - good quality etc. Unfortunately 2 of the frets were badly made and raised - making the guitar unplayable => had to return to store for refund. Hopefully this was the only bad one in the bunch! Worth considering but check carefully when you get it.
