I bought this from home depot (item 1828822 - rubbermaid deck box mocha). It contains NO assembly instructions. You can find scanned .pdf instructions on the rubbermaid web site but they are nearly illegible as they appear to have degraded in the scanning process. One might think that a snap-together plastic box would be intuitive to assemble, however, you must punch out holes in the bottom. This is not mentioned in the scanned instructions on Rubbermaid's site. The pins are not sized properly to push through the hinges. In attempting to force the pins through the hinges, the plastic bends to the point of breaking. The resulting product will be unstable and dangerous. I am very disappointed in the brand, and the experienced has tarnished the image of Rubbermaid as a reliable, well made product. Other reviewers mentioned that the hinges stretch-out with repeated opening and closing of the lid. This is not a product I would recommend and chances are very good that yours will not assemble properly.

I purchased this to make my 84 year old mom a small raised garden. We have not yet added the soil and plants, but its a great size to stick on her deck and let her grow some plants this spring. I really think it will work great, but I guess only time will tell.........I loved it being shipped to her house, and the assembly took about 15 minutes, was clearly marked and easy to do.

Product looked great, and was easy to assemble just like everyone said. Mine lasted seven days before a thunderstorm with high winds demolished it. Came home to find the box in pieces and all the contents scattered all over the beach. One side wall was missing, but Rubbermaid is replacing it for twenty bucks. Next time I will put a padlock on the lid and weight the box with cinderblocks

The biggest problem for me is trying to get the posts (for the hinges) on the bottom side through small holes for the hinges on the cover. I cannot hammer hard enough. Also, I am worried that bugs and mice may squeeze through the gaps between the sides. No problems putting the sides up. Put the side of the bottom that has the writing on it facing the ground. It feels weird because the cover and the sides all have the writing facing inside.

Bought this at a Home Depot in Hawaii after doing lots of comparison at Sears and local garden stores. First problem was there was no instructions in the box (new box with shrink wrap, sealed). I, too, as one reviewer above figured "how can I go wrong - don't need instructions for a box". Assembled it based on intuition but found hinge pins don't fit without forcing and sides/back/front won't interlock. Open the lid and the sides pull out. Then looked on line for instructions. And, same as another reviewer above, found the instructions on line but the print was blurry (believe it was for a discontinued model). Then found the "revised" instructions based on a Rubbermaid response to the complaint. Turned out I went wrong by having the floor upside down; none of the pieces locked in and there were gaps in the sides. Plus, no straps for the lid included in the box. I am about to return it, (I always keep boxes til I'm satisfied with a product!) but glad I at least looked for the mfr's web page. So, I'll get it back out and try again...but it sure would have been easier if Rubbermaid quality control had been on the ball before it was shipped.

I've owned a couple of Rubbermaid outdoor storage boxes over the years and this one is BY FAR the best one I've ever owned. After reading some of the less than favorable reviews here, I can't, for the life of me, figure out how my experience is so much different from the experience of those who are leaving negative reviews. First, assembly was a breeze. I had this box completely assembled in under 15 minutes. Maybe it helps if you have the space to spread out, like I did, but whatever the case, everything is clearly marked and the directions are plainly written and easy to follow. Second, it's a big box, so I was a little concerned about the integrity of the lid when under a load, due to the span it covers. Well, I'm the load and I don't notice any indication that this won't hold two over-sized adults, easily. Third, considering the amount of stuff this thing will hold, I found it to be the best bang for my buck. I admittedly shopped around a bit and found a great, fully delivered price, but even retail seems right in line with the other junk on the market (believe me, there are a couple of brands I didn't even consider when doing my research). The bottom line is that the box I bought was easy to assemble and is plenty sturdy for outdoor storage, with the bonus of extra seating on the patio. It's tough and all panels fit together very well. There is no bowing or binding. I didn't install the lid strap, because I can't open the lid past 90 degrees, due to the fact that it's up against a wall. It seems like it would help for anyone who can open it past 90 degrees. I expect this to last me many years and I'm so pleased with it, I'm considering a second unit, just for the flexibility it gives my outdoor space. I wish I had more info for those of you who have had less desirable experiences with yours but I'm at a loss as to how that could even be possible, considering how well mine performs. Highly recommended for those who need inexpensive outdoor storage.

instruction for installing the lid straps not clear installed as shown and when you close the the straos flop out, restricting closeure. the lids pins also do not line up correctly. the holes for the screws were not drilled out, had to drill my own.. poor quality for this product..it may be good, but installation is poor.

This is a great size for a patio and I love that it doubles as a bench. However, it works better as a bench for taller people. I have to stand on my toes to sit on top of it. But I love the spacious area inside and that it holds most of my garden tools except for those with a really long handle. We've had two very heavy rains and the inside of the deck box has remained completely dry. There was a little confusion on some of the instructions, but we got it worked out.

I have used this product for over a year as a tack trunk at my barn. At least five of my friends also use this product, and have been using it for 5+ years. I don't know what those other people are talking about, but if you assemble this product correctly then it is amazing! it's never broken, doesn't leak, and can support 5 or more people. It has been through a lot, and still is in excellent condition.

This deck box is huge! If I'd realized how large it is, I would've ordered the next size down. It holds all our spa equipment, swimming accessories & towels with tons of room left over. It was easy to assemble. It's very well made & totally waterproof as I found out after a torrential rain.
