unhappy with bare spots and weeds

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Getting desperate here on trying to get grass seeds to grow. We even went to the point of adding hay to the top of the seeds. Well we got hay growing and now this grass seeds has more of weeds to it than it does grass. Wish I would have kept receipts for all the grass seed we have bought. All in all we have bought well over 100. Pounds of seeds and still have weeds and bare spots.

Positive results so far!

I am two weeks into a re-seeding project. I killed all vegetation, stripped it down to the bare dirt and spread the Pennington Bermuda. I'll put it on very heavy. Raked in the seeds to mix with the soil. I did not add any additional fertilizer, nor did I attempt to cover the seeds once I spread and raked them in. The bag I purchased stated it would cover up to 5000 ft.², I had less than 500 to cover. I spread the product by hand as my handheld spreader was broken. Doing it by hand was one reason why I used so much but I wasn't concerned. I water 2 to 3 times per day. I live in Central Florida on sandy soil. Overall, I believe I had good germination. It looks a little thinner than I had thought it would at this point. There are a couple areas that came in pretty thick. I still have not walked on the yard to this date. As you can tell in the pictures, I also have a ton of weeds that also came up, which did not surprise me. A Pennington representative I reached out to said I could not use any chemicals or other product to treat the weeds at this time and that they would have to be pulled by hand. However, there are literally thousands of them in a couple areas and I'm not gonna go pull these things. I'll wait till I've mowed a few times and use a weed product that does not kill the grass. I'm hopeful that in another two weeks it will look even better. I can't complain because I had nothing but weed prior so anything is better and I did not spend $500 on sod all in all, I would recommend the product if you follow directions.

I scrapped a very poorly cared for St. Augustine lawn that previous homeowners didnt care for and chose a seeded bermuda route. Conducted soil test, killed all previous grass, waited months, rototilled up the old soil, seeded and added starter fertilzer. All proper water and care taken. Right before the 3rd week I finally saw bermuda seedlings. However, other vegetation began growing with it. Between week 3 and 4. The growth grew exponentially. (At least 3-4 inches) I am now due for my first mowing, but cant help but think something else was in my Pennington seed bag... I have good patches of bermuda, but I have total coverage of some completely different grass/weed... not sure what. Hopefully if bermuda history holds true it will over power the competitor shortly. Although it waited until the very last moment of the 21 day germination window, it did explode very quickly afterward.

Hi Susan, Thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear that you had issues when planting the grass seed. Our seed is rigorously tested for germination to ensure that it is only high quality grass seed in our products. Grass seed can take 7 to 14 days provided that the soil temperature is warm enough to support germination. If the weather has not been consistently warm germination can take longer. Please reach out to discuss your experience with Customer Service at 1-800-285-7333 for more assistance.

Works fast

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I highly recommend this product. We live in a fancy neighborhood and had some spots that just wouldn't grown. I used this product and within 25 days they were full and looked great.
