Customer reviews for FoodSaver FM5460 Food Preservation System, 2-in-1 Automatic Vacuum Sealing Machine with Starter Kit forThis is our second machine in 15 years, and it is not nearly as good as our first. This sealer was to have been designed by really inept people without production skills. Complicated, difficult and hard to understand the logic associated with its use. They are so un-proud of it that these is no model, stock number of identifier and the unit, just the name food saver. I have told several people that the sealer does not meet the standards of name and I can not recommend this unit. To add insult to injury they have just reduced the price a bunch, oh well good products don't last forever.
Great machine! Very impressed!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've had a chance to use this machine a few times since I received it, and I'm pleasantly surprised with the ease of use and all of the features it has! I've never used a good preservation system before, so I was especially excited to buy meat in bulk without worrying about freezer burn for the meat I needed to store. I have a large family, and buying in bulk knowing the food will stay fresh is huge for me!! I'm not thrilled about needing to buy specialty bags to go with the machine, but I figure they'll pay for themselves
Big Money Saver!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Foodsaver has saved me a bit of money already and I've only had it a few weeks! It has allowed me to not have to throw out meat that my husband and I couldn't eat before the best by date. I've also been able to get meat much cheaper by buying it in bulk and sealing it up with my foodsaver to use later. Also, what I was most excited about was being able to get fresh fruit from local farm stands and sealing them up to use later in my daily smoothies. I love buying fresh fruit, but it can sometimes go bad so fast, and this has allowed me to keep the freshness. Overall I would recommend the product to anyone. Just make sure you read the directions to ensure you are sealing the bags up correctly and you are good to go! I received this product complimentary to try out and to give my honest opinion.
FoodSaver
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Our family has been using the Food Saver Preservation System for a few weeks and have been really pleased with its performance. It took us a few tries to master some of the many features that the product has available. We found that we love it for marinating chicken, etc. The chicken was so much more flavorful! It did take us a time or two to master where the bag needed to go with the drip tray. We purchase a lot of deli style cheese that if not stored properly can go bad. With the chance to seal and take the air out of the bag we made it prolonged the life of the cheese a great deal. The attachment feature worked well and seemed easier than sometimes using the full system bar. Overall we were very pleased with the many features and feel like the product helped us save money and keep food fresher longer. We were given this product free of charge in exchange for our honest review of the product.
Don’t buy this model
I love FoodSavers but this is easily the worst designed product I have ever owned. I could save bag material much easier with my old model. I have to prop up everything to seal rather than leaving flush on the counter and then the bag shifts and does not seal properly. It is also awkward to change from smaller to bigger bags. Stick to a different model.
Nice Product. Versatile Features.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My wife and I had been considering a food preservation system for awhile, but just hadn't made the leap. Would the value of such a system justify the cost? We just weren't convinced. We were finally able to try the FM5460 system and I have to say that I was impressed by its ease of use and the features. Not to mention it's a good looking little machine - solid, seemingly well built. But would it suit our needs? We jumped in and put it through its paces. First off, after getting things set up (all-in-all about ten minutes to get it up and running) we made our first sealed bag. Can't say we nailed it with the first try, but it was sufficient for our test. We had always wanted to buy unsliced cooked ham and turkey to slice at home and divvy up in portions, and this was the perfect excuse to do so. After slicing the meat we placed portions into our "homemade" bag, then placed the open end of the bag in the appropriate slot, pushed a button and the machine went to work removing the air then sealing the bag. 30 seconds or so and it was done, and we had fresh sliced meat sealed and ready for the freezer. In total we made and sealed about 12 bags of meat to freeze. Quick and easy. Next we tried some sliced meat in the resealable bags that came with the machine. After some user error (forgot to close the bag at the top) it worked like a charm with the retractable attachment on the machine. (I guess this would be the "2" in the 2-in-1 system) Again, quick and easy. And honestly kinda fun. So we looked around for more to do. Turns out the retractable attachment also works with canning jars with the jar attachment. Nice. So we went about sealing a couple of jars of herbs we had grown in our garden and dehydrated. The system delivered again like a champ. So now what? Hey, here's some cooked ground beef. Let's give it a whirl. Once more we made a bag, placed the cooked beef inside then vacuumed and sealed the bag. Well, not quite. seems as the air was being sucked out of the bag, it, of course, took the grease from the meat with it too. This does not make for a good seal. Lesson learned. By this time, we had used up the bagging material that had come with the machine. For the most part, we feel that we got a good amount for what we were able to seal. But we've yet to purchase any more bag material as of this review. Overall I say that we were impressed with what the machine could do and believe that it is a good investment. It certainly works well for what we need it for. At this time I do have to state that we received our Foodsaver 2-in-1 system as a sample to review. But we had no incentive or reason to not review the machine honestly as we perceived it. So a solid 4 out of 5 stars. (I'd lean more toward 4.45, if I could.)
I don’t have an expensive food sealer. It works great for what I use it for saves me alot of $. I save money by buying bulk, like hamburger 3 lbs. I split it in two. Chicken I buy 6 breasts split them in two, make dishes that require 1 1/2 lbs. usually lasts 2 meals. I can’t say how much I use it for other foods or veggies I use it for. Excellent product, thank you FoodSaver!
Sleek Design and big cost savings!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This vacuum sealer works awesome! I used it to store carrots, green beans, corn, and other vegetables from my garden with no problems at all. I buy chicken breast and ground beef in bulk and usually I store it ziplock bags, but with this system I get it done much faster AND stored better. I've never used a sealer that comes with a handheld attachment, but having that capability to use on bags was amazing. After using this for a couple weeks, I'd definitely recommend this vacuum sealer to any of my friends that need one for the upcoming harvest and hunting seasons! *Disclaimer: I got this as a sample to review, but my opinions are all my own with no outside influence.
All Around Bad Design
I have had three foodsavers and then this, each of the first three did what they were meant to do. The first still works a first generation, second one I wore out, third just couldn't keep up, had to keep shutting it off to cool down. So my fiance bought this to replace it from limited reviews. I didn't like the design at first look, I do like the the bottom sealer, but, to vacuum seal, this it junk. One you can't see well through the smoked plexiglass to align the bag, it's difficult to keep aligned while trying to hit the vacuum bar with both hands and hold it aligned, oh yeah, if it's on a smooth surface you'll chase it across the counter. It lacks suction power and quite often it will leave air in the package. Also most of the packages have to be held to get any kind of seal at all, which is another inconvenience. I am totally turned off by this impractical design. I process at least 600lbs a year, I can't have a finicky design to hold up my process! I'm looking elsewhere for the next purchase. I recommend to skip this and look elsewhere!
Love this product!!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] “The FM5460 food saver system is my newest and most favorite kitchen device yet! This is the first food saver that I have owned and I only wish that I had gotten one sooner! The device is well made and is made of high quality material. It is very easy to use - even my kids have used it! I have been making so many things that I otherwise wouldn't have because I can now save the leftovers and not feel like I've made too much or like I am being wasteful! I have been freezing single portion sizes as well as larger sizes of meals, meat, soups, burgers, etc...I would highly recommend this system to anyone who is in the market for a food saver and even for someone who isn't! I received this product as a sample to review and I feel very fortunate to now own this product!”
