I have been using FoodSaver products for probably as long as they have been in existence, at least 25 - 30 years. I bought this model about a month ago, and have been trying different foods with it. By far, it’s been the worst one I’ve had, as far as reliability (vacuum not sustaining), and ease of use. I even vacuumed a potato, trying to see if the vacuum will hold! It’s been difficult to adjust to the different way of sealing, my last one was just a simple bottom sealer/cutter that had lasted me many years. The lifting the bag up and 2 hand press is the most difficult. The vacuum keeps starting and stopping. The most concerning thing is that, especially with fresh meats, the vacuum seal is not is not holding. Within a minute, you can see it lose the vacuum. I don’t know if I have a defective unit. I’ve read and re-read reviews and watched videos. Since sealing fresh meat is probably 90% of the reason I use a FoodSaver, obviously this is quite concerning to me. I don’t know if I need a different model or what I need to do.

I bought this one a couple days ago to replace an older model that dies. I like that this one is not as heavy as my old one was and it has lots of newer more convenient features. I've only used the make a bag and the vac and seal features so far so can't comment on the other features. So far so good. It seems to work fine. The vac and seal process is much faster than it was on my older model. I would really be lost without my foodsaver vac sealer. I've been using them for years and know I haved saved a lot of money and reduced food waste.

This is the third machine I have owned. I love it. I use the handheld feature, often, and like that I save a ton of money on unused bag inches. I have 18 large raised garden beds, 18 dwarf fruit trees and a number of berry bushes, so mine gets a lot of use. The only time it stops working is when I forget to dry out the liquid tray... my fault, not the machines. I love you products!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The design of the Food Saver FM5200 is very nice. The stainless steel and black compliment each other well. It fits well on the counter and doesn't look out of place. At first it seemed difficult to use but after reading the instructions and using it for over a week, it gets simpler each time. The bag maker is nice, allowing me to custom make bags for each use and minimize waste. The handheld sealer is also a very nice feature. Using it with the zipper bags and containers makes saving leftovers a breeze. If you are in the market for a Food Saver, don't pass this model up. ( I received this product as a sample to review from a reputable company).

I bought this machine about a year and a half ago. It is one of the MOST poor designs from this Company I have ever seen. In order to vacuum seal a bag with food in it you have to rest the bag on something, like a plastic container so it lays our flat to seal.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I really like this unit. The only problem I had was that the bag has to be positioned just right in order to get the bag to seal correctly. This is complicated because of how you have to push the unit down in order to start the seal. I found that I needed to cut the bag a little longer than I wanted in order to allow for a little slippage. The vacuum seal on the ziplock bags works great, I find myself using it more than the regular sealing functions. Overall, a great product and it does a great job! It appears to take pretty much all of the air out of most and will certainly save money for families that buy in bulk and don't want to go to the grocery often. I bought this because I thought I would love it but the design lacks something to be desired. It’s VERY VERY difficult to get the bag in just the right spot for it to vacuum seal. T he r only reason I have it two stars is because the accessory port for jar sealing works okay. I would not recommend this product. I waited too late to return it so I guess I’ll try to sell it and find one with a better design.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Bought this a week ago and have already put it to work. Replaced a B&D sealer that was starting to fail. This FoodSaver® FM5460 puts the B&D to shame. Works great! And I love being able to seal items in mason jars with the included attachment. Overall great product.

I researched many brands of vacuum sealers and products within each brand and decided on Foodsaver 5460 because of price and features. I received my Foodsaver, read the directions and immediately used it it to seal meat that I froze the day before. It worked great and was easy to use. I like the roll being stored behind the machine, it makes it easy to make the perfect size bag. I’m using my Foodsaver more often than I thought. I mainly got it to seal meat for the freezer, however, I’m using the handheld more often than I thought to seal dry goods in ziplock bags or jars. It was helpful getting an assortment of bags with my Foodsaver to help determine which ones I prefer. I like the quart size rolls and both the quart and gallon zip lock bags. I use the regular size jar sealer often and hope the wide mouth jar sealer will be available soon. I usually don’t like keeping appliances on my counter but I’m using the Foodsaver so often that it’s staying on my counter, plus it looks nice.
