Quality, Portable Power!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This thing is a beast- in the best way! Its quality and I love the rugged wheels it comes with making it portable. The best feature is the tri fuel. It’s great to have multiple options to power it. Worst part is how heavy it is and trying to get the wheels attached.

Needed in a pinch

Purchased this model day before Hurricane Ida 8-28-21. Knew power would go out like it always does. Generators were hard to find with long lines everywhere. Me and two neighbors got lucky and picked up 3 at big box store as a truck just came in. I really wanted something larger to power more stuff, but all they had. We were out of power for 4-5 days and all 3 units performed well. The only negatives is this unit is noisy, I guess like many generators, and fuel thirsty. Went through 10+ gallons a day without any ac unit connected. Don't know how well this unit would do with a portable ac connected. If I had the time, would have picked a larger unit, and one without Cosence or that 50 state California CARB compliance nonsense and saved a few bucks there. Don't know the long term reliability because this is my use, but so far satified.

Great Back-up Generator for Medium size house

I, too, bought this generator in response to a long term loss of power during Hurricane Irene. After spending so much money for a couple of days on dry ice for the refrigerator/freezer, I realized I could spend the same money on gasoline for a generator and have the additional benefit of lights and television, and not to mention being ready for future power losses. The generator was very easy to set up and it started right up with its electric starter. I ran the refrigerator, television, numerous lights, and the washing machine. It has enough power to run the critical circuits in the house and I plan to have an Auto-transfer switch installed in the near future. With some judicious planning, I think I can even start/run the smaller of the two air conditioners serving our house for short periods of time. Complaints (so to speak) - I wish it came with a ground wire for use. For safety reasons, the NEC requires the generator to be properly grounded but I imagine many people ignore this because they are only running the generator for a "short" time. Including a ground wire could serve to place extra emphasis on the safety requirement. Also, I wish Generac was more helpful with information regarding sheltering the generator during operations in inclement weather, and information on noise abatement. I imagine it is mainly due to legal liability concerns, but there are some responsible grown-ups out here using the generator.

Safety!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Put oil and gas in this baby a she fired right up, didn't skip a beat!! I am so happy and relieved to have this "security blanket" just in case of a snowstorm, as our main heat source comes from a pellet stove. I feel safe now that I have this reliable backup!!

Beware it could be delivered with a defective battery

I purchased a GP8000E and paid extra for the electric start. I started it when it first arrived to ensure all was OK. It started right up. 8 weeks later I went to exercise it and the electric start would not work. I took it to a factory authorized service center where they discovered the battery was defective. It would not charge nor hold a charge. They replaced it and it started immediately and now runs fine. THE PROBLEM....This generator cost over a thousand dollars, is brand new with 12 minutes run time on it, YES 12 MINUTES. The generator was delivered to me with that defective battery and Generac WILL NOT COVER IT UNDER WARRANTY!! I cannot say enough good about ELECTRIC GENERATORS DIRECT which is who I purchased it from as they are a Generac Distributor. They stepped up BIG TIME once they were told what happened and THEY took care of this repair. Fabulous customer understanding and support by ELECTRIC GENERATORS DIRECT. Generac..not so much. This is a major purchase for most. Hope it runs and lasts longer than the factory supplied battery!

This is a tentative review

Out of the box looks great, easy setup and starts easily 1x per month for testing ( starting) only). Today I needed it most with an ice storm and power outage. Fired up and ran great, but produced no electricity from the outlets. I took it into the service center, but still had a dark cold house. I will update with my service and warranty experience.

Crank- no Start ongoing issue

Bought this generator in May, 2018. Worked fine for a few short power outages. Live in rural area and need Generator for power outages as we are on a well and have no water when power out. In Sept 2021, we had a major hurricane come through and had no power for four days. As soon as power went out, we started Generac and it ran great for about 48 hours. At 3 in the morning, it stopped. I checked, fuel good, oil good and had been overall for only 76 hours per meter. Could crank it it but would not keep running. Took it to tech who could not fix it. Paid the $250 and sent to next tech. He could not fix it, paid over $500 for all the parts replaced Next, sent it to "Certified Generac" Tech. After months, was finally told it could not be fixed. According to Tech, Generac refused to assist him any further. After only 76 hours of run time, I now have a 450 lbs anchor as it is useless. Would love to have it working but can't afford to spend anymore when Generac will not help with a known issue for these models. (See YOuTube for verification) DO NOT BUY #Generac Cranknostart

Won't start.

I bought it at Sam's Club (06 JUN 22) and assembled it per the instructions. I fired it up once and it ran for a few minutes. When I shut it down and attempted to restart it, it wouldn't fire. It just makes backfiring noises. It still doesn't start or run. Needless to say, I am not pleased! Your phone rep was supposed to forward me a list of authorized repair shops, but I have yet to receive it. I want my generator to run in event of a power loss. Please help me to reconcile this situation.

A Beautiful Beast!!

Our generator was purchased in the event of a power outage. We have had our house wired to accept gen power by an electrician. Our electrician was SO impressed with our generator. He even mentioned it was robust enough to power our whole 2400 sq.ft. house, except for the AC. During our testing, the machine started up within 1 second, made less noise than we would have thought for its size and power. The controls are easy to use and understand (I am a novice at this) and maneuvering this beast was actually pleasant. Sturdy contruction and high quality gives you an excellent feeling that this can handle high demands. During our testing, it performed perfectly and did power the entire house with ease (45% total load with EVERY light, fan, appliance turned on). If I could give it 6stars, I would.

operating temp sensor is awful

I had a Generac RS5500 that was stolen and I really liked it. I purchased a new GP6500 to replace it and it is awful during the day. When the temp outside reaches 90 degrees this generator shuts down!!! It has to constantly be watched until the evening when the sun is not shining on it. This is the craziest thing i've ever seen. How is someone supposed to work with a generator that is constantly shutting down during the day. I appreciate the technology but this is a bad purchase for any one working or using the generator in the summer. I'm going to have to purchase a different one. The customer service reps and technicians while very nice and helpful did not even know that it would do that.
