GP7500e

Live in rural area and lose power at least once a year. Wanted portable generator that would power well, fridge/freezer and heat. Generac 7500e fit the bill after reviewing other generators. easy to use and was able to combine it with a manual transfer switch for the house.

Caught fire. Been waiting several months for warranty repair

After only 75 hours of operation, my generator control panel caught fire at the 230VAC outlet. I took it to an authorized service center in September, where I was told it would be covered under the warranty. It is January and I am still waiting for the repair to be completed. Otherwise it is a great generator. I bought 2 more, 1 for each of my 2 sons. I just wish the warranty service was more timely.

Best helper at the worst time!

I am not a big fan of generators running in the nights disturbing our good neighbors. But, due to the increased power shutdowns, it became an essential part of our daily life. All the features of this generator are excellent, other than its sound level in our quiet neighborhood.

Waiting for a big storm to put it through a real test

I wasn't sure what generator to buy, but the many positive reviews of the GP7500E helped sway my decision. Everything is checking out so far: it was easy to assemble and it started right up using the electric start. I'm looking into installing a manual transfer switch next. I'm a little concerned about keeping the generator maintained and ready to go if I won't need it for years to come.

Overall a good generator

I bought my GP8000e a few years ago. It's been a fairly good machine overall. It's fairly easy on gas. We run a light load most of the time. Fuel consumption is somewhere around .33 - .5 GPH. There's plenty of power on hand for when the submersible well pump starts. You hardly even notice it. The electric start is a great feature. The battery charger is also another good design feature. It was a wise choice to do it that way. There have been a few downsides. Cold starts around 0 deg F can be a little difficult. Keep a can of starting fluid on hand and use it sparingly. I had to remake a few of the welds on the frame. Though very careful to use non-ethanol premium fuel treated with stabilizer ... the carb did need to be removed and cleaned in it's second year of operation. It's probably best not to run the carb dry of fuel. Another thing is that the steel fuel tank began to rust and the fuel gauge clouded up within the first year. It might be helpful to redesign the start/run/stop rocker switch. You can inadvertently hit the starter with the machine running when you are intending to shut it down. In summary ... the core of the machine ... motor and alternator are pretty solid. The peripherals like the frame, fuel tank, and rocker switch could use a bit of improvement.

A Little more comfortable in the wake of the storm.

We have been thinking of a whole house backup but waited a little long, Irma hit. I ended up picking up a generator as I traveled back to FL as all the ones in town were gone. I was looking for a large enough one to run our well and refrigerators as long as needed to get power back. I arrived back to the house the day after the storm there was no power. So I opened the box and added the oil provided in the box, added gas and connected the battery, also provided in the box, turned on the fuel and slid the chock lever and hit the start button. the generator fired right up and we had power again. It was a good experience and easy to set up. We have had no problem so far.

Great value

I did a lot of on line research before my purchase. I found this unit on sale for an incredibly low price that pretty much made the purchase a no brainier compared to the other Generators on the market. I haven't had the need to use it yet but do start it up once a month as per instructions. It's very easy to start. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because it is a little noisy.

It's a great generator but.....

I bought this GP8000E to replace an older other brand with lesser capacity. It starts instantly and performs wonderfully but on day two I moved it on my trailer and after it had experienced a few bumps on the road I discovered that the fragile welds on the axle brackets had broken and bent on both sides. To properly weld them the unit had to be laid on each side resulting in oil spill etc. It was disappointing to see a unit with so much quality in other areas to fail on something so simple.
