Tough to Start

Bought this generator recently for the electric start and EFI feature which should result in effortless start - for my wife and family. I have attempted to start this generator a few times and each time has been extremely difficult. It starts eventually and runs great once running - just takes AWHILE to get it going. Generac directed me to load and deliver my generator to a local dealer for service - I have no way to get it there. Would have liked a bit more effort to resolve my issue on a new generator.....

It meets all my requirements

I had been shopping for a generator for 6 months, could not take the buying step. My wife consulted my nephew who said generac was best. Christmas a.m. was I surprised. Took 20 minutes to assemble, fill the oil sump, hit start and it ran like a top. What a relief to have back-up power if needed. excellent warranty, easy to move, happy with my Christmas gift.

So far, so good. We'll see as time passes. Electrician recommended.

One minor part (battery wire terminal boot cover) missing from shipment that did not affect assembly nor operation so far. Will call Generac to get the part. Unit started immediately after assembly with no problem. Putting the feet and wheels on is NOT a one-man job without a jacking device or something to lever the unit. The issue is likely common to all brands. Connecting the battery terminals requires care to avoid shock. It would be better if the terminals were separated lengthwise on the battery, as opposed to both being along a "short" side, as presently configured. Oil fill is a pain, as it is on most small engines today. "Quality" is not only the power, but the long-term reliability. I have no reason to expect the unit will not last for years, but the short warranty period (all brands are the same) gives pause. Ask me again in 5 or 10 years and "average" could become "excellent".

Great buy

With all of the weather associated power outages occurring these past years, I decided it was time to purchase a portable generator as a back-up . After looking at what was available, I chose the Generac because of its reputation as a reliable machine and at a price I could afford. Love my purchase and I'm not having any worries about its capabilities and performance. I'm now in ready-mode !! / Bonne achat pour me sécurisé en cas de panne d'électricité !!

Lots of power

Bought the 6500 in 2015 after losing power for 5 days after a storm. I went with Generac because of the trusted name and reviews. Recently lost power in a winter storm for two days. This baby ran for 48 hours straight through a transfer switch and powered my heat, two refrigerators, three tv's, all my lights no problem! Best $800.00 i ever spent.

This product fulfilled my needs

It was easy to put together, add wheels, handles, added oil/gas. Even though it has electric start, just before starting, I pulled the cord very lightly just to ensure the oil was distributed, the unit started! Very reliable! The electric start works too. Would recommend.

Life Saver

I purchase this unit during the recent Polar Freeze that we all experienced. Instructions for the unit was very good and the unit was easy to get up and running starting on the first pull. It was truly a life saver. We were close to being out of firewood for the fireplace, the refrigerator and freezer had been off for 4 days therefore on the verge of everything thawing. Had a space heater running and a couple of lamps. It handled everything with no problems. It ran 15 hours on 5 gallons of gasoline. Certainly recommend this unit.

Shipping experience was very good. Item came as per prior scheduling. Easy to set up. Runs well and does the job.

I was able to get the wheels on with ease by putting the unit on its side. A little hard to put the oil in and I got oil everywhere. surprised that Gererac did not include a disposable funnel. Unit is easy to move around and lighter that I thought it would be. Started right up. Like the fact that you can recharge the battery throughout the unit which is easy. It's everything that I wanted and a good value. signed>A happy camper.

Works just like is it supposed to.

Bought this almost a year ago, worked well, although I only had to use it the one time then. Power company trimmed all the trees over the lines last week, so I don't know if I will ever need it again. Glad to have the b/u though. I know it will work next time because it is a Generac

GP15500 EFI *DISAPPOINTED *

I purchased and received my GP15500 EFI on July 11, 2023. I purchased the unit to supply supplemental power to my home, as we experience frequent multi-day power outages due to severe weather. As of yesterday, 07/29/23, we were subject to severe weather and lost power. I fired the generator up and started supplying power to my home. The unit worked flawlessly for 10 hours, getting me through the night. Woke up this morning, 07/30/23, and shut the unit down to let it cool before refueling. Went to get more fuel and when I returned home (30 mins later) I found that the top portion of the fuel tank imploded and collapsed on itself. I am in complete disbelief. This was supposed to be a reliable piece of equipment and at $4,000.00 I expected more. Yes, the unit is covered under warranty. However, no Generac certified repair shop is open on a Sunday and I estimate not having my equipment back for several weeks, figuring new parts will have to be ordered. The unit was assembled and maintained according to the manufacturer's manual (i.e, oil level, fresh fuel, proper storage, etc.) And only has 11.2 hours of run time. I went with Generac because of their exceptional reputation but now regret my purchase, as I have a $4,000.00 paper weight and no power. I may update this review once my equipment is repaired but fear I will run into the same issue in the future. I tried to add photos but I am unable to do so.
