Produced a lust green lawn

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Had a 20 by 20 foot area covered by mulch and wanted to convert to a lawn. Tilled the dirt and laid the seed with starter fertilizer. After a few weeks of watering, the seeds produced a lush, thick green lawn with very few weeds. Even neighbor commented how nice it looks.

Works Great

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This product worked wonderfully. Our front yard is always in the sun and our backyard is almost always in the shade. With this one bag we had all of our bare spots filled and now have thick dark green grass in the front and the back yards.

Grass grew where I didn't think it ever would!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We had a yard full of oak trees that besides soak up the sun, they also soak up the water. I finally decided that if I ever wanted grass to grow there, I better go all out and follow the Scott's plan for shady areas. I aerated, seeded, watered and fed Scotts Winterguard in the fall. This spring, I had a beautiful lawn of green, lush grass. I am thrilled with the results from Scott's Sun and Shade Mix.

You'll love Scott's seed!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have been very satisfied with Scott's products! This seed has a coating on it which helps nourish the seed through the germination phase! Easy to use, high quality, great results! I'd wear gloves unless you want smurf hands.

Nice features

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It was easy to see where this had been spread due to the color of the seed. Make sure you are using this on loosened soil. Loosening the soil helps the seed stay in place when you water. Better to water often for shorter intervals.

Hardly any growth

Put this PLUS the starter fertilizer down according to directions and hardly any growth can be seen. In another small area where they had dug to empty the septic they put plain grass seed (no special coating or anything), and it has flourished immensely. It has been over 3 weeks, and I have watered and watched - but nothing. Next time - I will NOT use Scott.

Bad Product

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Planted this seed 14 days ago. I even used the Scotts Starter Soil as recommended and nothing has sprouted at all. The bag of seed says 5-10 days and I have nothing. A waste of $45.00. From a very unhappy customer.

Grew grass where there was none for years.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Easy to use. Blue color is easy to see where you may have missed. And birds do not seem to be attracted to the color. Took a little longer to germinate than stated. But could be because of a colder than usual spring.

I must have gotten 3 bad bags...

I purchased 3, 40lb bags to overseed my 16,000sq ft. lawn and to seed some bare spots that were created from work that was done when installing my new driveway. After the driveway was installed, the borders of the driveway were re-soiled with a good top soil and the area was seeded as directed. Ive had to overseed that area 3 times already and other places in the yard the seed was not germinating as well. A 40lb bag of this seed isn't cheap...each bag was approximately $107 at Lowes and I bought 3 bags. I went with the Scott's because of the name but now Im not sure if I should have went with Pinnacle. All the proper steps were taken to prepare the soil for the seeding and it's disappointing to have to re-seed several times. I also have a sprinkler system that was watering as directed. I guess its possible I just got a few bags from the same lot that had inert seed. Since I have a new lawn(installed last year), in the fall I will be overseeding again. This time I won't be using Scott's Sun and Shade in the fall and it's disappointing because I have been a Scott's product fan for years.

We are sorry that you have had problems while using Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Sun & Shade Mix. Temperature plays a critical role in seedling germination. Soil temperatures must be at least 55 degrees and no warmer than 75 degrees for your seed to germinate. If you sow your seed when the soil temperature is too hot or too cold, the seed will wait until ideal conditions are present. As long as you do not experience a sudden change in temperature after germination begins, you could still experience the great results you expected from our seed. One major "enemy" of a newly seeded lawn is herbicide. Make sure that no weed control or weed prevention product has been used in the area, as those products will also prevent or inhibit germination. When used on newly germinated lawns, herbicides will kill off the new grass. We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee to our consumers. Grass WILL grow in that section of my yard!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Have a section of my yard that's between the road and sidewalk, under a large maple tree. The grass has never been much better than patchy there. I had some soil leftover from a project in the back yard so i wheelbarrow-ed it up front and spread it out in this area. Loaded up my Scotts spreader with some Turf Builder Sun & Shade grass seed and started spreadin'. Came out of the spreader really nicely, since the setting was right on the bag. Followed the directions, kept everything moist, and in no time i was seeing grass shoots. Really looking forward to seeing how it looks in the spring and being able to actually mow something other than weeds in this spot.
