Love Scott's

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We got the grass seed for our back yard and so far everything is going well. It was easy to put down and when it rained it seeded very well. Love Scott's product and will definitely recommend to everyone

Sun & Shade Grass Seed Really Works!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This grass seed really works in shady areas! We had a spot in our lawn near the edge of the woods where pine trees grow and this worked amazing. It is now filled in like the rest of our lawn. I would highly recommend this product.

Terrible!!

Have tried a couple Scotts grass seed products. The 3-2-1, was extremely patchy. I now have tried this product, no sign of the seeds growing at all after 3 weeks. Definitely going to another product line. I have over 20 years of lawn maintenance and landscaping my own homes and professionally.

We are sorry that you have experienced problems while using Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Sun & Shade Mix. It is certainly frustrating to go to the work of reseeding an area, only to have the results less than satisfactory. Undoubtedly you will be doing reseeding projects in the future, and we would like to give you a few tips that have been helpful to some of our consumers. Water is an important factor in successful seeding and the seeds must come into direct contact with the soil in order to germinate. The newly seeded areas must be kept constantly moist for weeks on end. Allowing the soil to dry out even for an hour during the critical germination phase can result in seedling death. Covering seeds with no more than 1/4 of an inch (.63 centimeter) of topsoil or lawn soil will also help maintain the moisture level. Two "enemies" of newly seeded lawns are herbicides and lawn diseases. While you have very little control over the outbreak of a lawn disease, do make sure that no weed control or weed prevention chemical has been used in the area, as those products will also prevent or inhibit germination. When used on newly germinated lawns, herbicides will kill off the new grass. Finally, temperature plays a critical role in seed germination. Soil temperatures must be at least 55 degrees Fahrenheit (13 degrees Celsius) for northern type turf grass seed to germinate (Bluegrass, ryegrass, fescue). Air temperature must typically be between 60 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit (15-26 degrees Celsius). We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee to our consumers. At your earliest convenience please contact us to see what can be done. Fantastic Product

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My neighbors were blown away on how quickly my grass grew. It appeared to me that every grass seed germinated into beautiful grass. I water my lawn once a week even in the hot summer months and the grass is a pleasure to watch. I love Scotts products.

Grass Seed Worked

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I put the seed down on my lawn, on patches that were thin. I added Top-Soil in addition to raking the ground 1st. I watered it daily for apx. 2 weeks; then the grass began to show growth. If you are patient and persistence - the seed will work!

I love this product

My wife and I bought a new house and the lawn was in bad shape so I put down some of the amazing grass seed and it is now a beautiful green lawn that we can admire and enjoy for years to come. I will begin my fertilizer treatments this fall so that next spring I have a happy green lawn. Thanks Scotts.

Lawn Repaired

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Due to a serious ant infestation in my yard, I was wondering if my lawn would ever look nice again. I am happy to report that this grass seed always works. After spreading and thoroughly watering, I have hope that the bare areas in my backyard will be green and healthy looking again! Very easy to use, even in full sun spots.

This product doesn't grow

Regraded my backyard due to water issues. Hauled in 6.5 yards of premium compost from a local nursery and spread over a 2000 sq ft area. Spread Scotts Water Dumb Sun & Shade, covered with rolls of straw matting to control erosion and watered twice a day. It's 9 days into this project now and there is not 1 single blade of new grass growing. This seed is very frustrating and waaaay too expensive for what you get. Especially since this is the 2nd time I'm seeding this area because the first time it completely washed out from 3 solid weeks of torrential down pour.

We are very sorry to hear of the issues that you experienced with Turf Builder Sun & ShadeMix. You would want to be sure that you are using 1/4" of straw or less in order to keep your seed from suffocating. We offer a product guarantee because we want you to be confident when using our product. Contact us if you would like to discuss this further: http://tinyurl.com/mds8zo5

Worked as advertised and had seedlings on 6th day

Met a Scotts rep at local home improvement center. Was planning to get a Rebels strain but he convinced me that Sun and Shade variety would work well in our back yard that gets less sunlight. We brought in topsoil, waited for a cool night to spread seed. We then lightly raked it in and spread seed over that. Watered thoroughly that first night, then followed up several times per day - 4-5. On day five I saw just one seedling. On day six, too many to count. It's been about 8 and we have a see of bright green. Even spread, no weeds, and interestingly, little variation in blade height... all nurtured in same way, I suppose. We lightly spread Scotts Starter fertilizer just this morning so as to have a great affect and not be washed away. Not sure what else we could want. BTW, the blue coating made raking and spread management much easier because seeds were easy to spot.
