We live in a very wooded suburb of Boston. One might think that living 30 minutes outside of a city isn't the type of place for power issues, but our town is densely wooded with lots of tall mature pines everywhere. Whenever there's any kind of storm, be it a thunderstorm in the summer, a nor'easter or ice storm in the winter, we lose power almost guaranteed. The power company in our area is also extremely slow to restore power. Any outage guarantees at least 12+ hours of downtime, with many outages lasting 2-3 days. We got tired of spoiled food, no heat, and just huge headaches. We got this 18kW Generac 7226 installed by a local dealer last year, and it's already gotten us through two multi-day outages. It's so nice to not worry about our refrigerator and our heat in the wintertime anymore. We're able to continue our daily lives as normal while it just hums away outside powering our house. The automatic transfer switch takes care of switching back to main power after immediately once it's back, even in the middle of the night. If you're on the fence, go for a Generac. You won't be disappointed.

Adding this back up generator system to our retirement home gives of great piece of mind whether we are home or out of town. We know that it will keep our home powered up due to storm, outage or whatever the cause and our food, heat, cooling, and essential devices will have power. We are now older and this investment means we will have everything we need power wise no matter the situation. All automated and worry free.

This unit is automated to work as it does each week on a test run.. We have peace of mind just knowing its ready to serve our entire dwelling needs for us.. No individual effort needed on our part for the backup.. Its a great arrangement for us.. Thank you, Generac..

Nice generator. The Generac concrete pad is a must in my opinion. Also the generator base trim piece. With both of these options, we are VERY pleased with our unit. A very clean look that Generac has come up with. Not the least bit sorry for purchasing Generac! Should have done it years ago.

Great unit 22kv. Had a factory control problem. Contractor fixed "No Charger" and I was up and running. Had two outages that were over 35 mins. long and its a shock to be the only one around with lights and air conditioning. Got a three year service contract and still under review on that. It is quite compared to some I have heard. It charges the 12volt battery and system checks: starting, load, and shutdown each month.

After the third power outage due to storms I'm convinced I don't ever want to be without my Generac again. In each case it only took seconds before the unit kicked in and out kept us comfortable. The first time, during a hurricane, we ran on it for 3 days. I forgot we didn't have electric. Even the neighbors came to check it out.

Mine has worked exactly as I had hoped it would. That is, it only turns it's on Saturday at 2pm to perform its weekly check... Haven't had any power outages yet requiring its service but it has given me a comfort level knowing it will come on and my home will be powered since I have a disabled son here 24 hours per day.

Purchased the model #6551 22kw system for my new house. Power interruptions in our area are typical and storms can bring outages that last for days. Haven't had a serious outage since installation but the unit cycles once a week for self-check. During installation the unit checked out against a full house load. My four star rating on features is due to the engine noise. Better muffling could help. During self-check the unit runs at a lower rpm and the noise drops by half.

Our all-electric home has had no alternative source of energy to provide essential heating/cooling during power outages since we moved in several years ago. The prospect of being without power for an extended period of time has always been a worry, particularly during the winter. The Generac generator removes that long-standing anxiety. It has already provided emergency power once, and performed flawlessly.

This unit replaced an older generator and doubled the wattage. The Power Management features permit the monitoring of our entire 300 amp service vs. 16 dedicated circuits previously. It's quieter, has a smaller footprint and the wireless module keeps me and our servicing company in constant touch.
