If all else fails, read the instructions. I own several of these chairs, probably a dozen fir tailgating. Simply pick upwards on the front cloth of the seat and the chair folds itself closed........Dont listen to these reviews from filks who dont read the instructions. They are strudy. Very comfortable and built to last.

Loved the original version of these chairs, and still have a couple. We bought 4 new ones because we loved the ones we already had so much. All 4 are trash...the plastic that holds the front of the seat broke in the same place on all 4 chairs within 6 months.

If I too had reviewed these chairs within the first month of buying them I would have given them a much higher rating. Unfortunately, after owning these chairs for 2 years and 3 months with very little use (approximately 20 times over that period) the plastic brackets just under the front corners of the seats were broken. The chairs say they are rated for 325lbs and I only weigh 215lbs so I thought they would be well built to handle my weight. Apparently not! I have the older version that has the sewn-on buckle closure on the back. I believe they should have been more durably built without the plastic pieces in such a vulnerable location. I have two chairs, one blue and one teal model HA2849. See photos from another reviewer; mine split in the same places.

I actually like the chairs for how sturdy they are and with the built in carry strap. However, opening and closing the chairs can be very difficult and sometimes requires another person. The design makes it where them trying to close the back slides on the legs want to move in the opposite direction of where it needs to slide. So, you're perpetually fighting against them and the rage this fills you after a long day at the beach is immeasurable. Give these chairs as a gift to someone you despise.

Very comfortable chairs

I'd like to say I am a loyal Sam's Club member and I have been buying these Hard Arm Chairs for the last fifteen or twenty years. I was buying these Hard Arm Chairs when they were being made by a different company. I assumed these members mark chairs were just as reliable. I am very disappointed in the last six chairs because they open just like all the others but no matter how hard I tried, I could not get these chairs to close. The plastic slides on the front legs would not slide up the leg to fold the chair back to store. I plan to bring all six chairs back to Sam's for full refund. Thank you for hearing me vent.

If you plan to take to the beach with sand. DO NOT BUY. They open fine, Price is great but the plastic guides are to tight and when sand gets in them near impossible to close. Have to flush and clean guides as they are to tight around leg rails Ex struggle

Have 2 of these. Had no problem till going to the beach for the 1st time. Had to leave my husbands chair behind at the garbage can because it would not fold back up. My husband is pretty strong but when ur standing on a hot beach trying and trying to fold up a chair it becomes a problem when it was just sat on prior to walking to the beach. Mine was even hard to close but luckily it closed. Very unhappy with these chairs.

Maybe if you treat the chairs super delicately they might not break, but they're meant to be used for camping and such and should be built more durably.

This chair is a little heavy and a bit firm to close. Just grab the fabric at the edge of the seat and back, pull up quickly and it closes fine. If you try to close it like a cheaper camp chair, you will have a lot of trouble. It's great for taller people. The sturdy armrests are a step up from all other camp chairs in this price range!
