Disappointing Performance for the Price

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received the Bose Ultra Open Earbuds as a Christmas gift, and while I had high hopes, my experience has been nothing but frustrating. Within a month, I had to send them back for a replacement because they wouldn’t maintain a Bluetooth connection. The audio would constantly drop in and out, making them nearly unusable. Bose sent me a new pair, and now, about a month later, I’m dealing with the exact same issue. For earbuds that cost nearly $300, I expected much better reliability. While they are incredibly comfortable to wear, the persistent technical issues completely overshadow that benefit. If you’re looking for high-quality, hassle-free earbuds, I can’t recommend these. The connection problems are just too much of a headache. I wouldn’t buy them again.

New Open Earbuds Contender

Pros: Comfortable to wear all day Battery life appears optimal; quick charge Excellent audio quality Uncompromised audio from surroundings Ease of use to wear Option/ability to wear 1 earbud Switching devices is fast and simple Build quality Cons: Occasional bluetooth disconnection on Android Auto-pause media once 1 earbud removed is absent Ability to increase/decrease volume using one earbud Ability to have program multiple shortcuts per earbud The Bose Open Earbuds Ultra came in a compact box that's perfect for it’s size and footprint. Setup was simple using the Bose Music app. Attaching the earbuds to your ears with proper fit takes some getting used to and instructions with pictures/videos definitely helped. Build quality of the earbuds appears premium as time will tell if flexibility remains strong enough to clasp around ears. I’m using the earbuds with an Android phone and an iPhone. I had some initial issues getting the Bose Music app to connect to the earbuds on Android, but after force-closing the app it connected successfully. I have been using the earbuds while working from home and mostly around the house while doing chores or relaxing. I've even shared one earbud with my wife, and we listened to a playlist while preparing to host a party. Call quality has been excellent when I've used while running errands. Aside from an occasional bluetooth disconnection, I can wear the buds all day without ear fatigue. I get around 6 hours out of the buds in immersive mode before the battery fully depletes, but the case charges the buds really fast. Sound quality has been excellent while still having the ability to hear my surroundings. I own a pair of bone conducting earphones for this benefit, but one of the major compromises is audio quality. Most of the ANC earbuds from known major competitors also have capabilities to let in noise from your surroundings but some prefer not to jam earbuds into your ear canal or wear headphones over your ears. There are pros and cons for both devices, and I think these open earbuds offer an excellent option for those people.

Amazing open ear headphones! Bose did it again!

Pros: No touch sensor. There is a button that you can customize instead, it is hidden seamlessly. If you need to adjust them while they are in your ear and you are on a call, you won't drop your call. You still hear your surroundings and sound quality is amazing. They have several features to customize the sound based on your day to day and are very comfortable to wear. Cons: These aren't noise canceling. Unable to answer calls by touch. No find my headphones feature. These headphones are game changers! I go to the gym at 5AM, and most of the time, it's still dark outside. For me to be able to hear my surroundings while walking is really nice. The same goes for if I'm listening to a book or music while working, but I still need to hear my boss or if my phone rings. I love how the background is suddle, and I can still hear my music primarily. The best part is that I don't have to sacrifice sound quality. When I was listening to my favorite book, the author is narrating, and I swear I can feel her words, I can feel the pain in her voice. OMG! I tried them on my daughter, just curious if they fit her ears, she wont take them off now! They fit, and she literally loves them! Of course, the volume is down, but she is now playing while listening to her favorite songs. She's a really big music person. She has even started singing the songs and she is only 2! It's so cute! Overall I would give them a 9/10! Only thing they are missing is the find my headphones feature.

Great Product

I own Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds and have been using them when commuting or exercising. They are comfortable but after a long while, my ears would feel a bit sore. Don't get me wrong, I still think these Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds are great noise cancellation earbuds. Then came Bose Ultra Open Earbuds. These open earbuds are very comfortable in my ears. I was worried they would not be secure inside my ear and would fall off when I am running, but surprisingly they fit securely and very comfortably in my ears. The quality of the sound is great as well. Next upgrade - noise cancellation open earbuds. But I don't mind the current one does not have noise cancellation functionality because I usually turn off the noise cancellation functionality when commuting or walking so I am aware of my surrounding.

Big sound from a small, comfortable ear bud

I’ve been using these earbuds for the past month, and I’ll say that I’ve been incredibly impressed. Audio separation, clarity, bass, and comfort are all top notch. I’m hearing small details I haven’t heard before with my other headphones, and they’re reaching a low hz that my AirPod Max’s can’t touch. This is emphasized further with the bass boosted via the app, which gives you 5 bands to finely adjust audio settings to your taste. You can also set up voice recognition - which works surprisingly well - customize the touch controls, and much more. Aware mode is great for having conversions, and allowing me to be completely aware of my surroundings while running. People on the other end of phone calls hear me well, even when I’m walking outside on a busy street. Noise canceling is also impressive, especially when you figure out the right combination of earbud & backing sizes. Speaking of, having two variables to help find the perfect fit is extremely helpful! Overall, I’ve gone to pick these up 10/10 times over my AirPod pros & max, mainly because they’re so easy put in your pocket, but also sound fantastic. Even my partner, who isn’t really picky when it comes to headphones, absolutely loves the sound. The added bonus is that these are the only earbuds she’s ever tried that don’t mess with her earrings, which is probably why she keeps stealing them!

Not sure yet

I'm on the fence about these right now. I've only been using them about 2 weeks. The immersion sound quality is great! I have not had ear buds that sit like this on the ear so that is definitely an adjustment. I felt like the rim of my ear hurt a bit the first couple days, but now they don't really bother me. My main issue is that every time I place a call the sound cuts out and people say they can't hear me at all or I sound very far away. I use my ear buds all day for work so if this doesn't improve they would be a waste of money for me

Simply Astounding Sound Experience

I have to admit - I was skeptical of the "open earbuds" concept when I first received the package because they simply don't look like anything I've ever seen. The minute I clicked "play" on my favorite song, my jaw dropped. I felt as immersed as I do when I blast a song I love on a Bose *speaker* - except no one else could hear it, and I could hear everything else in my environment just as well. About the reviewer: musician and music lover, always been extremely particular about earphones and headphones. I'm female, mid thirties, have tiny ears, listen to music (or something) all day every day (pretty much all the time unless I'm in a meeting). Pros: - If you live for music as I do, and this is the most important criteria, these have simply amazing sound. - These allow you a pretty incredible listening experience without compromising safety if you are, e.g., cycling or running in a city or doing anything that requires environmental awareness (they don't go into your ear canal, so they don't dim outside sounds as other earphones do even without active noise cancelling). - They took a minute to get used to, but now I find them as comfortable as any other earphone I've owned. - Battery life seems very solid. - They stay on well through strenuous activity like running or strength training. - They're super light and the case is super light; comfortable to carry around in skinny jean pockets. Cons: - Some connection glitches at times (seems to have improved after a software update but still seems more glitchy than earphones native to your phone's manufacturer/operating system). I've also had some minor complaints on voice quality heard on the other side of phone calls and switching between Spotify/phone calls sometimes causes connection glitches. - I really wish the buttons had a swiping motion sensor to make the volume changing easier and more precise. - Hard to tell case battery level (it's not displayed on the app). - If you can only own one pair of expensive listening devices, and especially if you fly somewhat often, it's probably better to have the versatility of noise cancelling earphones as I would say these have a narrower set of use cases. Overall though, strongly recommend on the basis of incredibly powerful and beautiful sound + elegant and practical design.

Very nice and comfortable but improvements needed.

I bought them a month ago to use at work with Microsoft Teams. They connect easily but the connection sporadically disconnects and the battery life does not get me through my 10 hour work day. Even though they are connected to my laptop I do not get ping notification when the come through. No audio notification received.

Best fit and sound!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Bose ultra open earbuds is the most comfortable earbuds I’ve ever had. The sound is crisp and captures an immersive experience. I am truly loving this product and the fit is unique and so much better than other earbuds that tend to cause bruised or ear pain during long wear time! The battery life is also amazing!
