Do not buy this if you are not handy with tools and don't have plenty of your own on hand!

I just bought one of these two days ago, and expected to spend 1-2 hours putting it together. I might have been successful at that venture, had it not been for the horrible instructions, and the even worse quality control on the hole drilling locations, mainly up on the top pole where you have to mount the backboard. Let's just say, following the instructions is a must, but still requires a fair bit of intelligence outside of instructional understanding, as well as a decent amount of handyman experience or understanding with tools and installation. Had I mounted the backboard rods where the pre-drilled holes were, I would have had a sideways facing backboard, versus the base. The holes were 90 degrees off where they were supposed to be, so I had to drill four half inch holes myself, (and pray I lined them up properly, which wasn't the case and took a vice grip and a hammer to manipulate into the newly drilled holes.) Regardless, that wasn't all... The bottom pole of the main pole system has a clear notch on one side (supposed to be there for visual directional reference). The instructions clearly state to put that notch facing outwards when mounting the pole to the base. I did, and many hours later, I finally was able to install the handle and bracket which keeps the hoop at a pre-chosen height. After mounting it to the backboard braces, I noticed that the brace to mount it to the bottom of the pole was on the opposite side of the pole (again, not according to the instructions). I had to undo that brace and flip it around. After everything was said and done, over 8 hours after beginning installation, I was finally done. The inconvenience factor on this installation is MAJOR! The box does not tell you how many tools YOU need to provide (including socket wrenches {multiple} and sockets of different sizes, hammers {because the pre-drilled holes won't let you slide most of the bolts through by hand}, vice grips, high power drills {minimum 18v or higher} and different sized drill metal drill bits, for when their holes are not drilled in the proper location, and large flat head screw drivers, to help you bring everything into alignment when the holes are off.)

Great basketball goal!

My kids have gone from being indoors all of the time to being outside! The goal is durable and the measurements are spot on. This goal has more weight in the base than others I’ve seen. That is very good for the amount of wind in our area. Great goal!

Leaking Base

It did not last a LIFETIME. This is the 3rd summer that I would have used it, but the base is leaking water. I would drain it in the fall and put it away, but that still didn’t help prolong its life. FYI, that gel stuff you put in the water wouldn’t stop the leak.

Great fantastic service and products. Buy with confidence!

We cannot say Thank you to Heidi... Our portable basketball hoop was at least 15 years old and still in good shape. But... One day we moved it and the wheels, shaft, axles, poly and black spacers suddenly cracked, bent and broke. We called Lifetime and spoke with Heidi who knew exactly what we needed to "save" our hoop! Our grandchildren send their love and we send our hugs and gratitude to Heidi and Lifetime Products! Our repairs parts were quickly ordered and shipped by FedEx. Absolutley... No charge!

Excellent Basketball System, I Love It!

First, I was surprised at the size of the box, I thought it would be bigger. But everything was there and we followed the instructions that were very easy to understand. It took a little over 3 hours to assemble with my wife helping. When we were done we were amazed at the great professional quality! We filled the base with water and we were shooting away! I can raise and lower the height of the backboard very easily. I always wanted a basketball hoop at my house, it's another part of the American Dream! I think it makes my house and driveway look better too. Can't wait for the Grand-kids to come over, what a surprise this is gonna be. Going out to shoot some more hoops now. Great Exercise too!

Wrong parts inside

I bought this for my kids around the start of Covid. And for some reason there is no way to call to get a part replacement. I never got past the first step, due to it having no middle pole, and what looks like two bottom poles and a top pole. So there’s no way to even get the pole put together. When I call the customer service number it just says higher than normal call volume and not able to take call. I would love for someone to contact me to rectify this issue.

Good value, Good Quality, Easy to Adjust

Easy to assemble, excellent instruciont book, easy to follow showing pictures on how to do. Excellent quality of materials, allen tool supplied to assemble. Great looking, compare to units selling for much more. Nice feature of "Slam Dunk" spring loaded hoop. Initial set-up I used water in base, easy fill. Changed to sand before Winter set in. Can leave filled with a 50/50 water\ antifreeze mixture, but felt safer to use sand instead. Easy to empty water and no problem to fill with sand. Purchased for use by my Grandson and his friends including me.

Well worth the price

I bought a model similar to this but the backboard paint figures were a little different. I bought the hoop in 2007 and its still standing today, the base was starting to leak a little after about 5 years and the 2 bolt that hold the backboard in place came out twice. But as the goal gets older the plastic base starts to loss its strength and when you shoot the backboard moves back and forth. It's still a great goal but if they were to put a frame holding the glass in place it would be better than using a very strong stick

so far so good

I bought this hoop about a month ago. Since it was late fall and now winter, I haven't had a lot of time using it. It was a little difficult putting it together, but I did it myself. I'm sure it would be easier with two people. My biggest complaint is that I had planned to put sand in the base. I bought 7 bags and started the process of filling the base. It was impossible to do. The size of the opening and the angle of filling simply cannot be accomplished. If you find a funnel that fits the opening, the opening becomes too small due to the volume of the funnel itself. I called and was told that I could put water in instead. I was concerned about the base freezing and splitting as it was already mid-November in New England. I was assured that it was designed to accommodate the expanding ice. I hope this is the case. I got this for my own personal use for shooting baskets. I will not be hanging on the rim as I am 5' 7" and 66 years old. It seems sturdy enough for my use and I wanted a large backboard.

Thanks for taking time to post! You are not the first to mention the base opening. We are working on this and it will be new and improved soon. You can add a little antifreeze to the water if you are worried about freezing but like you mentioned the bases have been tested for outdoor use. Happy shooting!

Durable

Bought this hoop reading that it was durable and sure enough it is. Wind blew it over and it is still completely intact.  Only problem is a little top heavy but once you fill it with something you're good.
