The Night Therapy iCoil 12-inch Euro Box Top Spring Queen Mattress was delivered on 02/19/18; today’s date it 03/08/18 exactly 18 days since the mattress was delivered and we are still unable to sleep on the mattress due to the extreme chemical smell. The mattress was delivered in a four-foot-tall box and inside was wrapped in a plastic tie bag, once tie bag was removed there was a plastic wrapping in between the mattress and plastic ties holding the mattress firmly together. Once you cut the ties and remove the plastic wrap the mattress unfolds. The chemical smell released is so harsh that when you are in the room unwrapping the mattress the smell is so potent that it leaves a burning rubbing alcohol taste in the back of your throat. This smell caused a very serious situation in my home as I have an 8 month old baby who’s bedroom is fifteen feet from the bedroom storing the mattress, my little one started getting hives on his chest instantly and I brought him to the pediatrician she then referred me to a dermatologist, the dermatologist said it might be soaps that we are using since nothing had changed in his diet so I spent ninety-five dollars on the product called free and clear for shampoo’s and soaps and being I’m nursing I too had to use these product. Unfortunately, the soaps were not the issue after another visit to the dermatologist because the hives were getting worse on his chest I mentioned the smell of the new mattress and she urged me to buy an air purifier with a chemical filter. After hours of research I found the Rowenta Intense Pure Air Auto Purifier at Bed Bath and Beyond for two hundred and ninety-nine dollars. The purifier has a Nano Captur Technology Filter that filter out formaldehyde. Since we bought the purifier we have been through four filters each costing thirty-four dollars and ninety-nine cents within eighteen days to get the formaldehyde from the mattress out of the air in our baby’s room.
Pediatrician co-pay $35.00, two Dermatologist co-pays total $100.00, Free and Clear Soaps $95.00 Rowenta Air Purifier $299.00 and four Nano Filters total $139.96 equals $573.96. Plus, the cost of the mattress $288.88. Meant I am out of pocket $862.84. I will post a picture of the Nano filter one the baby wakes from his nap we already need another one it will reflect the crystals a dark brown when the started out a light golden honey color. In closing I have not even been able to sit on this mattress as I’m afraid of the chemicals getting into my skin then being ingested by my little one through a nursing session. I would not recommend this mattress to anyone whom has a child in the house or has allergies.
