Hi there - we are so sorry to hear that your new air conditioner is not cooling the room properly. We can only imagine how incredibly frustrating this must be and we certainly understand your disappointment. Air conditioner BTUs correlate with the room size, and then there are other factors to consider in determining the proper size air conditioner for a room (square footage, number of occupants, if the room is shaded or not, and if the unit is being used in a kitchen). For example, a 5,000 BTU air conditioner is designed to cool a room between 100-150 sq. ft., whereas an 8,000 BTU unit is built for a 300-350 sq. ft. room. It sounds as though your new unit may be oversized for the room, which can cause it to turn off too soon before the room is completely cool. This air conditioner has a sound level of 57/62 dBA, which should be equivalent to a normal conversation or a dishwasher running.
