I've used all kinds of coals, but nothing beats Kingsford for value and consistent results. I use them in both my grills and my smokers.

The new is smaller and burns up way too fast. Plus the bags are smaller each season and cost more. I have to use twice as much to cook with.

Kingsford has priced itself out of the running. There are many brands that work well and are more affordable.
