Horrible. Software fix never came for HDMI 2.0

I purchased this soundbar to compliment the Vizio 86" tv thinking this was going to be a match made in heaven. I spent the better part of a year constantly resetting, adjusting settings, unplugging and plugging in the tv/soundbar and researching every corner of the internet to resolve a number of issues which completely destroyed my experience. Vizio has dropped the ball on the software updates for both the tv and soundbar. I finally gave up and got rid of the soundbar. I'm saving up to replace the tv for the same reason. Vizio software needs major updates and they are slow to nonexistent in coming. So what could be so bad you may ask? Trying to sync the tv to the soundbar so they both come on worked moderately well the first week. Then it didn't. You could get both of them to turn on independently, but then the battle grew into getting sound out of the soundbar. Someone on Reddit suggested unplugging the tv and soundbar and that worked on occasion. However, all settings for sound and inputs would randomly reset themselves and the battle continued. Sound quality was horrible. If a movie had music as part of a scene, you could barely hear it because it was suppressed. Intros to shows rarely played the way they were supposed to be heard, again mostly suppressed. Volume would randomly increase uncontrollably and no, no one was sitting on the remote. It nearly gave my dogs and me a heart attack. Totally unresponsive to the remote volume. I had to shut the tv off. It seemed that every time I thought I had it working fairly well, switching inputs from the fire stick to the blu ray player or tv would screw everything up. I'd find myself increasing the volume to 45, 48, 50 just to hear the volume in a quiet room. From what I've been told, it's the HDMI 2.0 input which is problematic. Vizio has fallen way, way short on the programming end of things to address compatibility issues. Again, it was paired to a brand new Vizio tv. I suppose you could choose HDMI 1.4 or an optical input but what's the point of buying this soundbar if you can't enjoy all the features 2.0 brings to the table. This was a total waste of money. I could not in good conscience recommend this soundbar. I tried to be patient. I waited about a year and half, putting up with nonstop issues. I don't anticipate Vizio is going to come up with a fix for this if that's what you're thinking. I picked up Samsung's top of the line soundbar recently and couldn't be happier. Unfortunately the tv still has compatibility issues so we are looking to pick up a Sony in the next 6 months.

Fantastic, but Unreliable

I love the sound this puts out. When Atmos is engaged, it’s completely immersive and provides the experience you hope for. The build quality and performance are excellent for the price. The downside, however, and it’s a big one… is how temperamental this thing can be. It takes some time to adjust settings for your preferences, and even if you don’t touch them, they’ll often change on their own. It will turn on and off randomly at times, and there is some minor feedback in the surround speakers. Having to reconfigure things frequently is frustrating, and I’m too scared to experiment with settings, knowing how difficult it may be to return to how I previously had them. The Vizio app is useful, but only if you can connect it to your device, which will take retrying until you get in or give up. This is a known issue and I don’t understand why Vizio hasn't resolved it. The bottom line is, it’s excellent, when it works properly, but the lack of reliability will overshadow the experience for most consumers.

Was excited but now disappointed!!

Needs updated badly!!! My vizio elevate sound bar sounds great when working correctly, but since it now has a bug that is allowing it to increase to max volume on its own I cannot even enjoy using at all. I have to unplug the sound bar to watch tv now. This may be the end of any further purchases of a vizio product from me. After searching on the web I found this to be common and I am not satisfied upon hearing that there is no firmware upgrade for this issue. Shame on you vizio.

Wonderful Immersive Sound!

I've bought this just over a month ago and love it! The sound is great and when watching a movie with Dolby Atmos it's just so immersive and wonderful! Very happy with my purchase but only reason it's not 5 stars for me is the rear speakers are not wireless.

All is good except volume increment issue.

I am happy I purchased this sound bar for the great sound but Vizio has not corrected the volume increment issue. I have spoken to customer service several times and they have informed me that changing the volume increments is an issue that affects the newer models. I purchased a Vizio sound bar model SB3851-com 6 years ago and it performed outstanding using the same volume increments as my tv but I wanted to upgrade. I would recommend this product to a friend but cannot because the 2-increment volume causes the volume to be too loud or mute.

Great surround sound but low audio on dialogue.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The surround sound is great, but the dialogue audio is low that volume needs to increase. But when the surround sound section in the movie comes in too loud because of the increase volume on the dialogue.

Fantastic in Home sensation

Bought this system yesterday, easy setup and install procedures, quality sound and experience as if I was watching a movie in a theater. So impressed that I’m considering one for our basement w projection system. Sounds and clarity is better than my Bose system.

Best Sound Bar Sound Experience EVER!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Elevate Home Theater Sound Bar system is, in short, PURE JOY. Vizio's Elevate was a joy to unpack, a joy to setup, and a BLAST to use. Right from the start, unpacking this system was so EASY. Vizio has taken great care in the packing design of this product. I found the extra attention to detail in the way the subwoofer was packaged (see picture) with a handle bag extremely helpful as the sub was heavy when removing it from the box. Then there were all the cables and the remote, carefully organized into one box. No digging around a big box for a “hidden” cable that may be floating around behind a piece of foam packaging. It's all there for you – in ONE box. Any cable you could think of possibly needing for this system is INCLUDED with the system. The sub and the surround sound (rear) speakers come pre-programmed from the factory for easy wireless connection. No fumbling with “selecting channels” for proper connection. You just plug them in – and they connect to the sound bar automatically. Following the instructions, I was able to connect Vizio's Elevate system to my television in just minutes. Pure bliss! My ONLY issue came when I tried to scan the QR code on the outside of the box, which was supposed to take me to Vizio's website for easy installation instructions. Instead, I was taken to Vizio's home page. Not a big deal, as I just used the instructions included in the box. I am hopeful that, once Vizio realizes the link error, they will update the QR code link to take the buyer directly to the correct page. The sound bar itself: It's MASSIVE. Containing 18 speakers, this baby REALLY packs a punch! My favorite part of the sound bar are the auto-rotating end speakers. When a Dolby Atmos movie is selected for viewing, the end speakers SILENTLY rotate upward to allow sounds to bounce off your ceiling and into your ears, giving you a true 3D sound experience (Sounds like helicopters/jets/starships/etc flying overhead). You will know that you're watching a Dolby Atmos movie, too, because the logos on the end speakers will display, once they have rotated assuring that you are getting the best sound possible. The rear wireless speakers have the additional Atmos speakers built in as well, making the sound of a fleet of spaceships flying overhead throughly entertaining. I found the remote simple and easy to use as well. I appreciated the digital display at the top of the remote as it confirmed each setting I selected. The display was also helpful during the initial setup process. Should you decide to use the soundbar for just music, you're in luck. Chromecast comes built in to The Elevate Sound Bar, so streaming music wirelessly from your phone is a breeze. Finally, The Vizio Elevate Sound Bar is just – pretty. It is so well designed that, should you decide to pair this sound bar with a Vizio OLED television, the hardware is included with the soundbar to “float” it beneath a Vizio OLED TV when mounting your entire system to a wall. I guess I should correct myself in saying that this system is not just “nice to look at” - The Elevate Sound Bar system is, well, “Vizio-ly Stunning.”
